I've been using the reMarkable Type Folio for the past 6 months as a supplement to the regular Folio the team offers. It's added a new element to the rM2 and a unique way to interface with it. I hope you find this useful and please let me know below if you have any questions. • reMarkable 3 | A wishlist

i'm thinking of getting a freewrite alpha. it starts really quickly--they've move to a small embedded operating system, the linux of the original freewrite products takes longer to boot (it is the same operating system used in 100% of the world's supercomputers ...). the alpha is also a lot lighter than the original freewrite. and the charge lasts about 100 days or something. one thing holding me back is probably price. it would be nice if the keyboard supported more languages (i write in 4 languages and going through texts adding accents is something i find annoying). the other thing holding me back is that (i think) the alpha is made in china, and i really don't like supporting a government with such a terrible human rights record. i usually pay a premium to get electronics products made in other countries. do you know about the boot time of the remarkable and where it is made?

Great video Vladimir. I got mine today and here are my first impressions: - Very good built quality overall - the keyboard, key travel, the three different movements, and the inner lining. - But I hate the quality of the outer “fake leather” used. I chose the brown color as I wanted some contrast to the black RM2. The fake leather is very rough to touch, and the sharp borders only make it even more unpleasant to touch and handle. I hope it softens a little bit, in the following weeks. - Weight: yes it adds considerable weight to the RM2. The moment I took the Folio out of its package, I could feel the heft. So it’s definitely not going to be my primary case to carry, while I travel, except if I am sure that I will need to do some typing on it. For travel, I will prefer the RM classic Book folio I have had for two years. - Software: I knew that it has limited formatting capabilities and cannot replace a word processor. But I see it as a modern typewriter. And having seen the great work RM has done the last 2 years (since I purchased my RM2) on the software update cycles, I am positive that they will introduce many formatting capabilities for the Type folio, in the following months. At the moment, I am 50-50, as far as keeping it or returning it eventually. Will test it extensively in the following weeks.

Couldn't agree more, I do wish they had a different option for the type folio other than leather, I really like my regular folio material a lot more. You are right the software is constantly improving, I'm working on an rM3 wishlist video and one of my top requests is that they remove some weight from the device itself since the type folio isn't gonna change anytime soon! Thanks for watching and hope you like yours
@jefftrump1
@jefftrump1 7 ай бұрын
@@VladimirKostek yes I agree with you. The Type Folio is quite hefty. And I think we feel it even more as the RM2 is so slim and light, and the moment we take RM2 out of the Type folio, we feel cherish the lightness immediately, and so curse the Type Folio for its weight. 😀
@VladimirKostek

@jefftrump1 the rM1 was significantly lighter, I really hope they shave a little weight on the 3. I often consider if I want to bring the type folio alongside my laptop when leaving the house. It would be nice to not care

Thanks for the reply. I am very conscious of ergonomics due to long hours of working on it. Hovering a wrist over the device to avoid touching the keys when predominantly writing and not typing is not good. Would it be better to remove it off the folio? Any recommendations would be great. I have been reluctant to buy the folio this far. Looking forward to your new content!

Agreed about ergonomics, when I have the keyboard out and I'm using the stylus it is usually when I'm marking up a script. So i'm writing on it here and there, kind of a combo of typed text and writing. If I'm writing for more than a couple of minutes with the stylus I will have it flat in the case or pull it out of the case as I like the thinness of the reMarkable by itself. Hopefully that makes sense

That is correct, you could buy a used folio in the 150-160 range. If you get a remarkable you would likely want a stylus as well but you could buy a cheaper 3rd party one if you are mostly going to use it for typing.

That's a great question Michael, in short... no I don't really pay attention to that. When I am writing with the keyboard out I use it in the lower mode typically and my hand rests on the screen (The nice thing about e-ink is palm rejection is superb). I'm actually putting out a remarkable video next friday on the 2 modes I use it in, I'll make sure to cover this topic as I think it's a solid point you bring up that I haven't discussed. Your pen does not stick well to the tablet because you must put it upside down and position it close to the top right corner.
@VladimirKostek
@VladimirKostek 5 ай бұрын
I realize that in some shots I showed it like that, I know the magnets are stronger when it's down and when transporting it I always put it like that. Nonetheless, I think it's a valid point as I no longer have the black pen for this reason (lost it due to weak magnets and it displacing in the off axis likely)

@@spatialvision4191 That is a great point, it is slightly noticeable from the normal folio (the raised aspect) I adore writing on the reMarkable with no case since it's so thin and emulates paper well, but if you are picky about that you might notice the difference. @@VladimirKostek I was originally interested in a Freewrit but like you say on your video it's very very expensive for what you're getting and to add insult to injury it also doesn't have microSD card support. I instead bought a Pomera DM30 from Japan which literally gives you more bang for your buck; it is very portable, less expensive, has a bigger e-ink screen which gives you more writing space on a smaller device, has English support and most important of all has a full SD card slot. The only drawback is that it uses AA batteries instead of a rechargeable one and that the Keyboard is Japanese but it has English characters so you just have to get accustomed to it. I still use it from time to time when I'm traveling but recently I upgraded and bought a Kwumsy k3 mechanical keyboard with a attached screen to use in conjunction with a small mini PC I had lying around and running an Operating Sistem called Endless OS wish can be use as a distraction free and offline Operating Sistem.
