I greatly appreciate the videos that Dr Cliff and now you, Dr Rachael, are providing. I am a new hearing aid user and they are really beneficial to me to understand expectations as well as the details of my aids. My audiologist is learning new things as well right along with me.

Regarding changing volume (and also changing the program if that’s available)… I’ve been wearing hearing aids for 5 years now and I maybe have to fiddle with the volume at most once or twice a month, and I fiddle with the program even less - both only are temporary when I’m in an unusual environment (and are reset the next time I turn the hearing aids off and on again). If you’re doing these things all the time, you may want to check with your hearing provider to ensure your devices are programmed correctly.

I agree Bluetooth is great! If you have an iPhone try to get hearing aids that are designated “MFI”, this means they will have additional Bluetooth features that make hearing aids work more seamlessly with Apple devices.

Thank you for providing that video. I am just in the process of purchasing hearing aids for the first time and this information you have shown is very useful. I have a question for you. As you are aware the technology as it applies to hearing aids is moving along very quickly. Do you personally upgrade your hearing aids on a regular bases or have you stayed with your initial one for years at a time.
@Sashazur
@Sashazur Жыл бұрын
I’ve had hearing aids for 5 years and I upgraded for the first time last year so that I could switch to ones that are rechargeable. Otherwise my previous ones were fine. Hearing aids are reprogrammable, so really unless your hearing loss changes significantly, requiring a different type of device, there’s usually no reason to upgrade unless there’s specific new features you want (or you’re facing a significant cost for repairs or replacement). If they ever make in-ear hearing aids that fit me (they’re currently too big) and have Bluetooth (none do so far) then I’ll upgrade again.
@rachaelcookaud2695
@rachaelcookaud2695 Жыл бұрын
Technology is moving quickly. However, if your current hearing aids are meeting your needs well, there is no need to upgrade. The average lifespan of well-maintained hearing aids is 5-7 years, and new technology is released every couple of years. Improvements from one platform to the next are generally smaller than if you wait for a platform two generations newer. But you don't have to wait, you can upgrade whenever!

have a similar problem to you high pitch sounds ,however I have very good hearing (0-10% damage )in low frequencies up to 3000k-4000k however from 3000-4000k there is a huge droop up to 80% .I have recently bought the newest hearing aid phonax Audeo Lumity L90 and I'm not satisfied and want to share my experience .after using 2 weeks I visited another audiologist and test showed further lost hearing in high frequency .I suspect that it has sth to do with my hearing aid that they are overused and more dull to high pitch sounds or I hope it is temporary .Do you experience a further hearing lost after using hearing aids ? I don't care that it may help if I can't maintain what I have. I understand television almost fully without keeping it louder than average but I don't understand songs only refrains and colloquial speech. .I only understand official statements ,in hard situation I'm defenceless.

Not having any hearing aids I am wanting to learn about the extra premium features and how these are controlled, are they automatic or a feature that I need to select. Example ( i think.. not sure this is all new and Im learning).. a loud football stadium will require I’d think a different setting (station/program) than a nice walk or TV movie or radio and conversation in a coffee shop. I guess my question is ; do the devices automatically switch or does the user toggle through some pre-programmed settings. Thanks for your help. Very much appreciate your channels information 😊
@Sashazur
@Sashazur Жыл бұрын
From what I know as a hearing aid user and shopper, it depends on the hearing aids you get. Some do change programs automatically, but most don’t, mostly because the default automatic program is designed to adapt to a variety of situations already. If you do need to manually switch, typically you can either do it by pressing a button on your hearing aids, or by selecting the program in the smartphone app that goes with them. Personally in my case with several different hearing aids, I’ve found that the differences between programs are really slight - even though you might be able to choose among auto, noise/party, and conversation (for example). But this will depend on your specific hearing loss, which hearing aids you have, and how they are fitted and programmed. P. S. The idea that the hearing aids could automatically change programs seems great and better than doing it manually, but the reality could be that unless your hearing aids always choose the right program at the right time, you could end up preferring to do it manually anyway!
@rachaelcookaud2695
@rachaelcookaud2695 Жыл бұрын
Higher technology level devices will be more automatic than lower technology levels. Each brand has 3-5 technology levels; each time you go down in technology level, some of the features, customizations, and automatic processing abilities are removed from your provider's control. Generally it's a mix of both. Automatic processing with manual programs for distinct situations.

@@rachaelcookaud2695 I'm still preparing to get the aids for the first time- struggling with whether to get TruHearing's Advanced or Premium. Like all products, there are variations. It's tough to know which level to get for the first time. For the wealthy, they can always get the best- for the rest of us- it's a tough choice.

Hello, great vid, ty for sharing Allow me a question, after i change my old set of hearing aids with a new one, my tinnitus spiked like crazy. Do you have any clue why did that happen? Best regards
@Sashazur
@Sashazur Жыл бұрын
I’m not a professional anything, but like the video says getting hearing aids is not “one and done” so you should definitely get in touch with your hearing care professional and tell them about this. In my case hearing aids help my tinnitus, I think because they bring in more relatively quiet background sounds, which make my tinnitus less noticeable - without those other sounds, if it’s quiet all I hear IS my tinnitus.
@Rick_7023
@Rick_7023 Жыл бұрын
@@Sashazur TY for your answer. I already talked to my hearing care professional, and returned the new hearing aids. My old hearing aids don't spike my tinnitus, and, like you say, even aliviate it because they increase the volume of background sounds. My hearing care provider from the new hearing aids told me that in same cases hearing aids can spike tinnitus... i don't know, maybe if theyu are to loud? like if you stand close to a sound monitor blasting...

@@rachaelcookaud2695 TY so much for your answer. No, the new audiologist didn't perform any "Real Ear Measurements" test. I notice the sound of the new hearing aids, specialy on public spaces, were a lot louder then my old set of hearing aids. It was almost like to be in front of a loud speaker.

I like these videos, but honestly, I do not like the editing/removing of any pauses between the TONS of valuable information your channel is providing. I am going to guess this is some sort of editing software to remove any natural pauses, but please, it feels/sound unnatural and its an overload. I have stopped several videos (doesnt matter who is presenting as this technique of removing any gaps is happening for ALL videos) because its just too much information, non stop and rapid fire. Tell who ever is editing your videos to leave in some more gaps of natural pauses between your sentences and especially when changing to the next topic!
