A wonderful video, but Evgenia's quotes mostly reflect what I understand as the Eteri's school and the Soviet/Russian school of figure skating in general. But there are features that comprise her unique champion character. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rcupgNGD3tibeYU.html More or less close to her words: "My failures never discourage me. They make me angry at myself, then I stand up and do things properly." "No one has a limit. Everyone has their strong and weak points, but you can fix your disadvantages and develop your advantages without any limitations." "I'm satisfied with the results and the three new world records, but I'm upset I didn't manage to perform better." (She really struggled to explain this one, there was no primness at all.)

I can totally see her saying that (the last quote). I saw an interview she did with Alexei Yagudin just after returning home from the Olympics, and she said (according to the English subtitles) that she had no regrets, that she had skated the best she could and would not be tortured by thinking "If only I had done this better, or If only I had thought of that," and so it seems that what's most important to her isn't the medal outcome (although of course she wanted to win), but knowing that she held nothing back and that her best that day was truly her best and not an off day. It really seems like she'd rather skate the best she has ever skated and lose than skate pretty well (but not the very best that she is capable of), and win.
