I think this is actually a common thing with most multi-channel tube amps. The different channels are not totally separate and isolated, probably because they share some of the same circuitry. I’ve noticed in some other amps I have played and owned that the controls on one channel have a small effect on another.

Most people don't take the time to deep dive and get to know the nuances of their equipment. I honestly never tweaked until I started watching the channel. One thing that is helpful is to step back and listen to someone else play my amp as I tweak the settings, easier for me to HEAR for some reason. Appreciate what you do man.🤙

At 3:00 - that green channel with the boost goes harder than some high gain amps I've heard lol. Just insane. And while I don't have the 5150S, if it's like my 50w 5153 then the green channel is missing at least half a tube from the blue channel. Amazing.

Daaaaaamn that Red channel trick is crazy good

Yes!! So glad someone finally pointed these out. The fact that the blue channel gain affects the red channel gain, and that this association has been obscured from most, has caused many people to jump to false conclusions about the red channel I think. I own this amp and it is special. I have a Mesa 4x12 with it and have no desire for any other amp…for me, it is THE ONE.

Jarrod mentioned in the video that this is a red channel feature it actually works on the blue channel as well, which is what I mainly use this method for, I play on the blue channel, and dial in the gain with the red channel and green channel gain knobs, the green channel kind of adds to the body of the gain for the blue channel with green gain turned off the blue channel gain sounds a little hollow and dull, but turn it up and it fills in some extra structure to the gain, makes it feel like the notes are bouncing off the strings more. Use the tone knobs on the red channel to dial in and in a way "filter" in or out some of the low mid and high frequencies in the blue channel, it is subtle but there is a change in tone. If you really want to hear the difference start the tone knobs turned off on the red channel and dial them up individually to hear the shift in the sound they make I only have the 50w so I don't have the ability to adjust green channel tone knobs since green and blue use the same eq knobs, but there could be a little more adjustment with the 100w heads. I have also noticed more head room and brightness on the blue channel when I turn up the red and green channels volume knob without an increase in actual volume, but if you turn them completely off it brings in some bottom end and kind of compresses the sound a little bit and you can put the dial somewhere in the middle for a sound somewhere in between the compressed and bright open sound. its all subtle changes but it's still notable and would work great in a recording set up for double tracking, track one with the volume off and the other the the volumes up, same with the different gain settings between the channels

so after poring over some schemos, the effect will also happen the "other way around," ie the red gain affecting the blue tone, but to a lesser extent (a ~5x smaller cap is used). it may not even be noticeable (haven't tried it yet). using red channel: when blue pot at max, 104k (r25 + r26 || r6) to ground, c68 out of circuit when blue pot at min, 10k r25 + 4.7nF series cap c68 to ground (6db/octave low pass filter) using blue channel: when red pot at max, 380k (r28 || r11 || r29) to ground, c15 out of circuit when red pot at min, 600k (r28 || r11) to ground, also parallel 1nF c15 to ground (6db/octave low pass filter) basically you're rolling off HF at a very early stage in the amplification (if you aren't using an OD pedal, there's no appreciable distortion at this point) so the effect on tone is quite different than tweaking subsequent filters. when using the OD pedal, the HF content of the signal at this node is increased due to clipping so the effect is more audible. in either channel the LPF/HF rolloff is due to the presence of the "wiper bypass" caps c68 and c15

I played a Marshall pedal (Pedal Pal 800) into the green channel on my 50w stealth with green ch. Gain at 8 or 9 o'clock and and it's pure JCM800 gained out all day. No need to buy one of those now. I feel like it's 100% Marshall JCM tone once you figure out the dials. There's an Easter egg for ya.

Are you gonna do an Easter Egg vid on the EL34? I know it definitely does the Gain stage thing with Blue channel but I don't know if it does the Green channel thing...i never tried. And what did that dude in the chats say about the "tone" knobs having some effect as well? I can't remember lol

So reached out to EVH and they say there isn't midi capabilities so,,, how do you change between channels and have for instance chorus on the clean and delay on the red using an effects unit ?

I wouldn't even think the gain knob on channel two would be in the circuit of channel three. But somehow, it is. But only slightly. I wonder if this has to do with the cascading-gain stack? Maybe channel three is part of channel two, with extra stages added. I know this amp has a lot of 12ax7 tubes in it!

I have an (EVH 5150 100 STEALTH ) plugged into a load box (Torpedo captor X ) for direct recording through IRs. When I have the sound turn down on the monitors and I play the guitar, I can hear it coming from the amp head. There is a Randell ISO cab speaker cabinet plugged in Captor X. There should be no sound since the monitors are turned down. is this normal for high gain amps.

Cause you and your channel were the reason I got the 50w stealth 🥷 and then again you and your channel were the reason I returned the 50w and got the 100w stealth!!
