EVICTION PUSHES 63 YEAR OLD FEMALE TO BECOME NOMAD

See an amazing $200 van build. This 63 year old solo female didn't let circumstances defeat her.. Following an eviction due a health crisis she moved into her tiny hime, a self built Dodge Caravan minivan, regrouped and said "forward ho", as she moved across the country. I think her story of overcoming adversity will challenge and inspire you. Let me know what you think and if you have had to make major life changes too.

I'm "OUTRAGED" every American should be guaranteed at least a studio apt. in retirement yrs. U get sickly as u age, u need a stationary kitchen, bathroom & sleeping facilities. We're taking in thousands of illegals & we can't take care of our own. The world is upside down. I will pray for this lady & may God step in & help her as well as others.

I'm always so sad to hear these stories...BUT, at the same time I KNOW they'll be OK in a vehicle. I sold my home to do it 2 years ago. I decided to try it for a year (to see if I'd like it)in a Ford fiesta hatchback. I loved it so much, I bought a minivan on New Year's Eve and couldn't be happier! Good luck. Might I suggest a few tips and tricks... keep or buy clean scrub attire as a wardrobe. Don a “Care Transport” decal and place on a clean recent year micro van. That combo can gain parking cover for many a place in city and suburb when you need to do so. Purchase a disability blue colored privacy tent such as Fruiteam sells on Amazon. It can be popped up just about anywhere outside a vehicle labeled as “disabled care” This can allow for public toilet/shower needs in places most wouldn’t consider. If you can score a wheelchair lift and chair even better. The tent can be placed right on the lift and the chairs are just comfy. Anything that allows you to blend in safe places and spaces is worth co side ring. Be safe!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your home and hope you have found a loving and welcoming community among nomads. It is really disturbing that so many older folks, many with paid off homes, have been forced out of their lifelong homes due to rising property taxes. California Proposition 13 passed many years back as part of a grass roots movement. It held the rate that property taxes could be raised to 1 or 1.5% per year for a large group of homeowners. Fortunately I fall within the guidelines for that group or I would probably be forced to sell.

Proud of her for living with her means, and not making excuses for the trials and tribulations of life. I’m teaching my children that it is important to have both physical and mental health, but more important to have a strong mental and positive mind, no matter what. Society gives so much value of physical materials and accomplishments. But, in the end if there is a “will,’ then there is a “way.”

My story is similar although the financial limitations of being on disability is forcing me to sell my mobile home because of skyrocketing lot rent. I already live in AZ and got an extra long Econoline van which I am converting along the way. Good on you, Fee! Suggestion for your ALASKA trip: consider going on the Alaska Marine Highway, you drive your vehicle onto a ferry out of Washington and goes along Canada and Alaska coasts. You get to see whales, etc. And then you can use your van to explore on land! Not nearly as expensive as a cruise. Coast Guard law against sleeping in your vehicle, but you can nap on deck or rent a bunk or stop at every port! Have fun!

You are absolutely right. Unfortunately there are even folks who worked their whole adult lives and paid off their homes and are now being priced out of their homes because of outrageous property taxes. Hey Fi, I'm 63 too. I lost my husband to ALS last year when I had to take him off his vent April 30, 20. I couldn't afford to keep my farm anymore so I had to place all my animals I loved so much and move into a used Class C 34 foot motor home. I don't have what it takes to be homeless so a motor home it is. I was able to get this rig with the help of my friends, thank doG! I have 4 dogs and cat and am parked at friends house where I have been since last Aug 28 when I had to leave my farm. I have two Giant Schnauzers in the rig with me, my other two dogs are in my friends yard with a room in the garage and my cat lives in their house in her own bed room. All that is about to change though as I move to my home state of AR after ebing gone over 40 year showing, grooming, rescuing dogs.

We fought hard from day one of his ex July 21, 2016. Right on heelas on my getting my life back together after a terrible horse wreck when I got slammed to the ground with the force of a ton. Care-flite. I hit the ground so hard my helmet came off. Head injury, collapsed right lung, broken ribs both side, bright shoulder A/C separation, broke back two places. I was 56 at the time. 2 years of farm rehab and I could start to resume my 40 year dog grooming career of pet and show dogs. Then my husband got dx with Bulbar ALS and the next 3 years, 9 months and 9 days were not of this world. ALS is an evil, ugly disease. Oh I want to go to Alaska! I’ve never seen it in person but what I have seen is breathtaking! I wonder how van life is there? Brrrr cold 🥶 but I’d try it for sure! Great video as usual! I’m so happy to see so many older women doing this. I’m getting myself organized so I can do this soon! God bless y’all 🙏❤️🥰

You are always so.kimd and respectful to those people you feature on your channel. I don't know much about video taping, but wonder if there is anything that could be done about the sound of the wind. Hard to hear your wonderful show!

Thank you so much Kathlyn. It is always my goal to treat every person I interview with the utmost respect. I am so relieved to hear that is coming across. As far as the wind, I was sorely disappointed in the sound quality on this video. It is my desire to honor my viewer's time and in consideration of such to provide a quality product. The quality of the sound on this video certainly did not.meet the standard I try to set. As a rookie videographer I am working on solutions to dealing with wind sound and certainly hope to resolve it for future videos. Thanks so much for your patience and comments.🙂

What an incredible attitude this wonderful lady has! It may be a small roof but it's a roof and she seems to be coping really well with her situation. I used to feel sadness (still do at a lesser level) for people who were evicted from their bricks and mortar homes but if living on the road in their vehicles maintains a roof overhead one's survival instincts kick in. I was a military survival instructor (one of many "hats") but it's not just about survival in the wilderness, it's also about surviving what man has brought about or creating slow desecration of the world around us. Wow, I am amazed by her resilience, her attitude and doing what's necessary to survive.

Thanks for your insightful comments Alexander. I do believe that attitude and resilience are as important as actual survival skills in real life. If one has all the necessary skills but doesn't believe they are capable or have the emotional constitution necessary to move forward all the skills in the world won't help.

I love your interviews. Thank you for shining a light on this. Not everyone doing the nomad life is doing this for sheer fun. Some are forced and some perhaps find this a blessing in disguise. It's because life has thrown you a curveball that you just give in. Others find creative ways and make the best of it. It's inspiring and at the same time heartbreaking. Be safe out there.

Congrats & Kudos to you.... I'm 63 myself...purchased a 32 ft camper last fall. Have it on a friends personal property so safety is not an issue. Have some work to do with it nothing major. Sleeps 9 and its just me and my pets. I live on less than $900 a month myself....so I understand your situation. I have arthritis and disc issues with my back, numbing of my hands, carpal tunnel in both hands...and have had both total hip replacements within 110 days of each other. You continue to feel good where you are....breathe easy...enjoy your years ahead. From one advanced in age to another my dear.... Good Journey to you!!
