She was horrible. In her eyes Shiyi could do nothing right because she was a child of a concubine. GM believed that Shiyi's birth status made her inferior. It's nothing worse than having a know it all like the GM making decisions for the family that puts them in harm's way. Lianfang's actions nearly destroyed the family yet she continued to cover for her. She was a horrible matriarch.

The thing I do not like is the grandmother always brings up the fact the Liangfang had to become a concubine, but when Liangfang had to chose to leave for awhile and come back to marry, or become a concubine, she made her choice. So I think it is unfair to bring up the fact that she had to become one. I hope that makes sense. The grandmother throughout the series frustrates me on another level. Ugg, I agree with you.

She didn't know that Shiyi was doing it for his health. She looks down on Shiyi because she's an illegitimate daughter. She doesn't believe that an illegitimate daughter can be smart/wise. It's the very reason she had Lianfang managing the household. She's quick to blame Shiyi for the misfortune that befalls her family. She tried to blame her for Zhun's failing health. She is blinded by her prejudice of being an legitimate/illegitimate daughter. It's the main reason why she treats Lianfang like the legal wife and Shiyi like the concubine. She has done a great disservice to her family.

@@jenniferhuff4895 I totally agree with you. He didn't even want to marry her. He told her that she should leave for a while/when she returned the Xu family would help her with her dowry. She chose her own path with his mother forcing Lingyi to take her in as a concubine. It's the main reason why Lingyi never accepted her. The great Madam is so blinded by status that she is revising the history behind Lianfang becoming a concubine.

The great Madam is the biggest fool EVER. Her archaic beliefs is the reason why she favors Lianfang. She doesn't look at the character of the person only the birth status. I think she's the biggest danger to her family because she doesn't have good judgment. I never get tired of watching Lianfang's plans continue to fail. She thinks that Lingyi is as clueless as his mother/has the same beliefs regarding birth status but he's completely different. He judges according to character and not status which is why she continues to lose.

They're half-sisters. Children from the harem all share one father.

@@ThePrincessCH actually Lingyi's late wife was Shiyi's only sister in his harem. All of his other concubines were from different families.

@@ThePrincessCH it was throughout the show. Early on I think in episode 2 or 3 it mentions Shiyi's relationship to his late wife. She was trying to pick which sister she wanted to marry Lingyi. The great Madam talks about concubine Qin being her maid. She was sent to take care of Lingyi when he was sick so the great Madam made her his concubine. Concubine Wen was from a merchant family/her family blackmailed Lingyi into marrying her by holding the provisions for the army. Her sister in law visits her a few times so we get a glimpse into her backstory. Lianfang was a cousin. The backstory for each concubine is talked about throughout the show. The only siblings in his harem is his late wife and Shiyi. In one scene where Shiyi runs into Lingyi while trying to secure transportation to flee her arranged marriage...he refers to her as his wife's sister. I hope that helps.

I agree. She's horrible. The very person she looks down on is the one that repeatedly rescued the family from varies disasters. Yet the very one she praises is the one who continues to bring potential disasters to the family. She's so blinded by her archaic beliefs that she can't see the truth.
