The Loam Wolf

Күн бұрын

#evilepocalypse #emtb #loamwolf We had a chance to put a solid day on the Evil Epocalypse prior to its release which you can read below, to get a first impression on how it stacks up in the hotly contested E-Enduro field. While this was enough time to get a rough feel for the character of the bike, you’ll have to stay tuned for the long-term review to get our definitive impressions on Evil’s new electrified machine.
The fit and finish of this bike is spot on for what you would expect to come out of the $11,999 Evil. Sharp lines, tight tolerances, and that classic Evil look. It is very apparent that they took their time on the little stuff. Having tube-in-tube cable routing is something every brand should strive for. The bars with internal cable routing keeps the cockpit ultra clean but also still giving you the option to easily change bars unlike some other fancy bars on the market. The built-in sag indicator makes it ultra-easy to assess what coil you should be running. The build kit really leaves no desire for upgrading in my eyes, but then you would hope so for this kind of price tag. If you really want carbon wheels then you could do that, but the I9 wheelset is a solid spec.
THE WOLF’S First Impression
If the first ride is anything to go by, then it’s safe to say that everything about the Evil Epocalypse instilled confidence on the descents. Climbing performance was stellar too, save for the 170mm cranks leaving the pedals in the danger zone from time to time. We’ll need to get more time to assess if the pedal feedback on choppy terrain was a setup issue or an unavoidable consequence of the DELTA Suspension System, and are looking forward to logging many more miles on the Epocalypse for a long-term review.

Gezus Quality is i bit more expensive! You pay round about 5k for a haibike and when we go to specialized it can go up to 17k if it is an sworks! But i would drive the fox setup on it (suspension) and a Hope Tech 4 E4 (brakes) and would motor chip plug an play the limiter off! Done Dreambike #1 Now i wait for a complete Hope Eride! Great review btw! Cheers

Looks like an eBike from 3-4 years ago. After seeing the direction the Fuel EXe and Shuttle SL are headed, this seems like less fun. But Delta is nice and Evil has a solid track record of making super fun bikes, so who knows?

You can,t really compare a full fat e bike with a super light e bike with half the power and half the battery size 😅😅 any brand on the market can make them sorts of bikes ...... Orbea and spesh have been making them for 3or4 years there good and look better .. but can't go anywhere near the distance or elevation of a full fat e bike.. and sadly to say that's where the bigger chunkier frame and looks come From 👍🏻

@@kiksta3325 My Kenevo SL is the best bike I've owned, and I literally had the choice of everything. For sure it's slower up hills compared to full fat eBikes, but it's a hell of a lot faster than using my analogue trail bike, and I can get any more downhill runs in when compared to normal pedal power... Also, the lightweight is much faster on the downhill than the full powered eBikes (having owned several full fat eebs I'm talking from experience). I guess it all depends on your wants and needs. For me, I am happier to be slower on the ups on my lightweight but have the feeling or riding a bike and not an e-bike on the way down. I just made a video about this on our channel

I absolutely love my Wreckoning, it’s an epic bike. But honestly because I own one I probably wouldn’t get this one. I don’t want to buy another bike that is the “same”, although I do see how that could be a pro for some. Sick release nonetheless, I’m a huge Evil fan

I don't know.. I may sound wishy-washy sometimes BUT, if I want a light weight bike and don't mind sacrificing power I'll go with a hardtail or dually non-electric. Saving a few pounds and getting a lower power bike is an option.. but one of the primary reasons is for better handling.

Comment on chainstay length being the shortest is inaccurate. Fezzari wire peak is 435mm with the old EP8 motor and new Pivot shuttle is 430mm with Fazua

Looks like a sick bike but why such a long seat tube length. This bike is has a 460 and the wreckoning is 470 on a large? It looks like it can be shorter. Most modern seat tube lengths on a large are 430 to 440?

It will be interesting what way e-MTB's go. I think I'd rather go with the lighter weight options with slightly less power. I enjoy my full power YT Decoy, and the added weight just makes it plow through anything, but the weight also makes it harder to toss the bike around and overall I'd rather have the option to toss it around. 100% still think a bike like this has a place though. Faster up is never a bad thing.
@TheLoamWolf
@TheLoamWolf 2 жыл бұрын
It will be very interesting to see where it goes... We think how many riders have a long and shorter travel bike now, perhaps full power and SL bikes will be in the future?? but we think as battery weight comes down, full power bikes will get lighter, so then we may be changing our minds again in the future...or perhaps stackable batteries, like Lego blocks will allow us to daisy chain a 250 up to 750wh battery size inside one frame based on the day's ride??

I wouldnt mind less power for a smaller battery but I wont sacrifice range. Some of those light ebikes are only rated for 3000ft of climbing which is ridiculous. When it comes to the lighter weight ebikes they still need to find the right balance between braaping up hill and getting less range than you can on your regular bike.

@ Evil has had a pretty bad reputation for bikes breaking back in the day (2009 - 2014). The revolt had huge failures and so the bike was discontinued but the Uprising and Undead were really strong and durable. I see many more broken new bikes than those 2 that I mentioned. Either way their customer service is top notch and will take care of any problems that might but hopefully won't come up. .
