Navajo Traditional Teachings

3 жыл бұрын

In this week's video Navajo Historian, Wally Brown, teaches about some of the evil that exists in the lesser known areas of Navajo culture.
Evil is real and while he doesn't like to talk about it. There are things that need to be discussed.
Evil can be disguised, and people can be tricked into thinking that evil is good.
Wally learned from his grandparents about some of these evil things even though they didn’t want to talk about it.
These teachings are not new… and portions of them can be found in all different cultures.
Evil is often disguised. Be aware and find out what is good and not good.

If evil things can be called good, then how can one know if good is actually evil? But then I suppose that is the purpose of testing whether it brings you and others peace joy, contentment, etc, but even then I am not sure if that is a good test because we know that humans have delighted and called things good that were in fact evil. How can we know? My striving is toward goodness, but how can I know, especially being a part of society that is complicit and practices things that we call good, but are in fact evil?

I think you guys are taking the quote too literally. The "Devil" could be anyone who pretends the bad things they're doing isn't "evil", whereby painting it as "good" or anything but evil. The "Devil" is also known as the "The Great Deceiver", and to deceive you must first believe in your own lie. So if you deny your own misdeeds by lying about it, you're basically propagating "evil" to flourish, by convincing yourself that you're not evil, as though your would-be misdeed didn't exist. You're your own "Devil" for letting that happen, so to speak. That's my interpretation on the quote, anyway. Please don't hate.

However there are those who understand the language and share it with others, but there are those who keep it to themselves or decide not to share it with certain people. It’s best that we get our elders to start writing their wisdom and knowledge or record it so we can preserve it for the future generations and so that those who don’t know their history or want to learn more but have no one there to teach them, can learn.

Jesus made it very simple and easy God became a man and came to Earth and taught us how to walk by faith and love. And he said if you believe on me Trust me you will pass from death Into life.. It's not about doing good or bad it's about trusting in the finished work of the cross in the fact that he was God and he holds everything together by the word of his power. This wonderful Navajo teacher, teaches a lot of beautiful universal spiritual truth and nothing he has ever said has ever gone against what The Bible and what Jesus Taught.. It goes back to the sons of God who God commissioned to rule over the different tribes of the world. The majority of those sons of God did not follow their commission. They rebelled against God. Psalm 82. I believe that there were a few that remained true to their tenant to teach love and truth and beauty. The apostle Paul refers to them as the principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness and heavenly places. And when Jesus died on the cross And rose again he defeated them. Now we await the redemption and the resurrection and the promise of his 2nd coming. And you can be guaranteed that as creator, father God he is not slack concerning his promises..

"Talking about evil gives evil more power," reminds me of focusing on negativity, it puts you on a downward spiral and pretty soon you *can't* see any positive thing, or positive side of anything. Its like negativity has "poisoned" you, blinded and weakened you in some way. (And those negative types are no joy, no fun, to be around, either.)

Sometimes I can sense not so good energies from certain people. One of those times I was being introduced to someone for the first time. Someone I had been told bad stories about. But I did not know what she looked like. As she came up towards me smiling, I just got the sense that she was like a black hole/cloud. I kept clear of her for the rest of the time I was in the same house.

It is good to know just enough to protect yourself and avoid the wrong path. Any more than that can indeed amplify that which should be avoided. This is true in all cultures. The issue is how to instill this knowledge in younger people before the natural exploratory instincts of youth push them In the wrong direction. Likening the effects of evil to poison, sickness or toxins can help de-fuse it’s surface seductiveness.
