Evolution S355MCS 14" Metal Cutting Mitering Chop Saw: amzn.to/475AKhw
This amazing machine is the answer to my frustration with cutting metal with my abrasive wheel chop saw, which while it has served me well, is slow to cut thicker material and leaves it extremely hot after the cut. But as you will see, this mitering chop saw is the cat’s meow.

Well Martin, as expected, an award winning comprehensive and unbiased review and analysis!! It certainly is a beast at 77 lbs, and nearly 900 bucks! If I did more metal work, it would be a great asset to shop. Thanks for sharing it. It’s just darn nice to see you back in the queue again!!👍🏻 A most happy, healthy and prosperous new year!!

One big advantage yours has over mine is the miter feature. I can position the fence at an angle but not as accurately as you can. Very nice saw Martin. You win the much coveted “Tractor Talk With Gary “ thumbs up 👍🏻

Yes, I love the rotating miter table as opposed to just crudely angling the fence like with my old chop saw. Thanks for the 👍!

Good to see another of your detail rich videos! Interesting that when I was younger made in Japan meant it was a piece of crap. Now made in Japan implies it's a quality item. Was looking for a bandsaw, now I will have to give this some consideration.

Happy New Year, Terry! Yes, I too remember when Japan meant junk but now it usually means quality. Depending on the size of the bandsaw, it can cost as much or a lot more than this saw. However, the blades don’t cost as much but I don’t think they would last a long and I don’t think they can be resharpened. Also changing them is probably a bigger hassle than it is on the Evolution. Thanks for watching and good luck with your choice!

Wow, what an impressive piece of kit, Martin. It certainly would be overkill for my limited metal work, but I have a friend that I am going to share this video with! Great, comprehensive review as always. Happy New Year!

Good evening Martin. Happy New Year. I have a big Makita. Have had it for years. Works great. Your saw looks pretty heavy duty. Yes indeed! They are heavy. I always carry mine outside of the shop to do any cutting. Had a good friend that burnt his shop to the ground after using one.

Great video! I may have to start saving for one. Two things on cleaning up the chips, I don't know if they still do but harbor freight has a magnetic pickup tool with a hand release, I think it is about 3' long. Another is if you have a magnetic tweaker screwdriver they will pick up shavings and a tap against the edge of the trash can will knock them off. Learned this cleaning out Electrical cabinets after holes were drilled in them in the middle of no where.

Thanks Alan! I already bought a Harbor Freight magnetic floor sweep, the 22” wide one and it’s great! Thanks for watching!

Hello there Martin!! This sure looks like a great saw. I have a metal grinding chop saw and I agree with you on it's abilities. It can cut metal but is slow and leaves the work piece hot. This saw looks like a winner in just the fact that the material is not hot when finished the cut!! On the expensive side though, but for a serious DIY'er I can see where it would be a great tool for the shop! Thanks for sharing and take 'er easy!!

Martin, you mentioned about all the chips from this new saw, but with the grinding wheel saw, the mess is a lot worse. The metal dust is in the air too. Your saw is much better and better for you health wise too!! Take care!!@@DIYMyWay

Hi Martin. Obviously for your shop this was a no brainer investment. Metal cutting saws such as yours are such a time saver along with the versatility of the miter capabilities. Sooner or later one or more of those fine metal shavings/burrs will infiltrate a finger or 2. It almost has to happen. Been there done that and I did not like it. You may want to invest in a pair of tweezers and a strong magnifier. Awesome saw, great upgrade! Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year!

Yes, it was well worth it for me. Having had to pluck many metal shavings from my fingers over the years, we have many tweezers and even a jeweler’s magnifying loop for extraction. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!

It's on the list, after a few other items. One thing I hadn't realized is how long the spin-down time is on the blade, and that it doesn't use dynamic braking like my 10+ year old DeWalt chop saw. Table saws sold into the European market require dynamic braking with a maximum 10 second spin-down time. I don't know if chop saws have the same requirement, or if this one would comply. Also, for chip pickup, check out the Evolution MCC390 Magnetic Chip Collector. A couple other channels have shown them, and they appear to work really well. I need to order one for picking up junk out the plasma table.

Looking at the video, I think it took about 8 seconds to stop so it probably meets the European requirement. I know about the chip collector and may get one later. Thanks for watching!

Now why do you do this to me. 😂 I bought a plasma cutter as per your recommendation. 👍 I think I’ll have to save for this one. Room for it would be a problem as well.

I'd love to have it. However, I don’t do enough fabrication to justify the cost. Just like many tractor attachments and accessories; they would be nice...but.
@DIYMyWay

I know what you mean. I don’t do a lot of fabrication, but I’m impatient and hate wasting a lot of time on the set up and the long cut times with an abrasive wheel chop saw. Thanks for watching!

Happy new year Martin. Wow, what a beautiful saw. You said blades were expensive, how many abrasive blades would you use. Those aren’t cheap any more and you go through those in a hurry or least I do. Ive also caught things on fire. Thanks for sharing.

Do you have to worry about small offcuts getting flung out at high speed? I know not to lift the blade until it stops but even going slow and doing that shooting a piece of metal would be a fear of mine
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 6 ай бұрын
That’s a possibility if the piece being cut off is very narrow and can slip through the fence opening but that’s why I always year a full face shield when using many of my power tools. Thanks for watching!
