Dee Jay, a kickboxing karateka hailing from Jamaica, is a long-standing character of the Street Fighter franchise who made his debut in Super Street Fighter II (1993).
Over the course of several titles, Dee Jay has been considered a low-tier character, but Dee Jay's return in Street Fighter 6 looks to turn things around.
In today's video, we take a look at the evolution of Dee Jay in the Street Fighter franchise and the history of his relevance in competitive play.

Love Dee Jay. I’d argue his revamp in 6 isn’t just decent tho, imo from both a gameplay and looks perspective it’s one of the best glow ups in street fighter history. He went from already my favorite to my super ultra favorite x10 😂

Speaking as a guy who loves Dee Jay in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, the worst thing about Dee Jay in the various versions of Street Fighter IV isn't that he was low tier, it's that he wasn't fun. Terrible damage, boring gameplay and difficult to land ultras led to a lot of uninteresting ways of getting low rewards for a ton of unfun effort. Seeing him get revamped into his true form in Street Fighter 6 is awesome to see!

Longtime street fighter/fighting game enthusiast, bought sf6 on launch and was met with the decision to see who I’d main. Something about Dee Jay drew me to him and it was a wrap once I started learning him and how to play him. Such a fun, cool and overall dope character!

My favorite Dee Jay is the one you did not mentioned which is his omega version in USF IV, I have not played SF6 yet due to monetary reasons so I do not know if he is similar to omega USF IV he is or if he is of my liking, but what captivated me was the fact that he played almost like a shoto with all his specials being motion inputs

The only charge aspects to his move list are Air Slasher and Jackknife Maximum. Everything else are motion inputs. I saw somewhere in the comments where he went from "Guile, but worse" to "Guile, but cooler", which is a pretty accurate summary. Plus, the fakeouts add to his cross-up arsenal. The dude is just too cool.

I would love to see a Meta Archives on Roa from Melty Blood. Ever since his first appearance in the early Melty Blood releases, he had a major balancing history that could make for a fun video.

I hope a video about Lily comes out eventually to talk about how T. Hawk set the pace for her. T. Hawk was really under the radar until right before SF5 iirc. He just started dominating, or so I've heard. To be fair I fell off after Super SF4 and didn't return until now, so I never even touched T. Hawk. I still wouldn't touch a character with a full circle input except for the fact that Modern controls exist now. That's why I love playing as Lily!

I played a lot of deejay as joke in sf4 when I was still learning fighting games as I went on to learn more I noticed that playing deejay taught me one thing your opponent HATES to be knocked down more then they hate taking damage and going for a quick knock down can a lot of times be better for the match

Umm not saying ur wrong about Dee Jay but he not in street fighter Alpha three reason why I know he’s not in that game because I got the street fighter 30th anniversary but I do recall remember him being in street fire alpha three on the Sega dream cast though 😂 it’s weird as fuck and Ik wtf I’m taking about because I’m playing street fight after three right now there’s no Dee Jay Fi long and I remember both being in that game, but only on the Sega dream cast though

Not a bad video but it was certainly missing a story, a thread. It was basically just an enumeration "this is how good he was in this game, next game he was this good." feels a bit lame. Especially in Dee jays case you could have explored is current super status more (the redemption arch story), instead of basically saying "skipping to now: he's top 4, end of video"
