Growing up with Warcraft, the story of Lordaeron grew to be one of my favorite parts of WoW Lore. How it fell at the hands of Arthas and the Scourge. How it continues to be held in undeath. The broken line of kings, it's former status as capital of Alliance, and everything the land has suffered through, etc. So to see changes to something I've dreamed of for over a decade is truly amazing Blizzard and I can't wait to see what future plans they have for it! Please enjoy this early preview!

I’ve been having some fun delving into the BFA Alpha and I really loved the new changes to current zones in Azeroth (like Lordaeron, Stromgarde, etc) so I wanted to make a nice little Evolution Timelapse. I really hope these are not just temporary maps for scenarios. The new details, architecture, landscapes and skyline are beautiful! Please Enjoy! =) P.S. Nice vid. I hope Lordaeron stays the way it became with BfA too. I think it will, as it wouldn't make sense to keep the old one, considering the events that have taken place. I like the old zone, but the new one is not worse than the original.

Yes, it is dark and atmospheric. I like it as much as I like something cheery and happy. Not everything should be cheery and happy, though. That's just boring. But your little, primitive mind will never be able to grasp even something as simple as this-to see the beauty in both.

the sun returning, the sky clearing, everything looks so hopeful of a land being retaken.... but as players who loved and grew comfortable in this dark little starter zone city and it's halloweentown aesthetics over the course of 14 years, this is so damn sad

When i saw the statue of Sylvanas in Brill and then the collapsed version of it, it made me think. Remember when in vanilla you were roaming around in a zone and suddenly you found a statue covered in plants, or shattered, or something like that? It would be an awesome feeling that 4-5 exp. later (if it will live that long) you could go back to Brill, and take a look at the shattered statue and you can say " Heh... It was one hell of a battle...."

I always found it unsatisfying that the Lordaeron arc of WC3 never had a "happy ending" - finally the story of Lordaeron that I witnessed as a kid will come full circle.

depends of your definition of "happy ending" - I personally not impressed with the way modern retail wow's story is. Horde can't have a leader who can hold his/her position and Aliance story is bland and boring as hell - "hero story" never clicked with me (thats one of the reasons is do not like Legend of Zelda games) and I personally find playing as fantasy stereotypical "good guys" is not entertaining. For reference - I was upset that Wrathgate bombing was made by renegade apothecary, I hoped that this was Sylvanas plan (but this is blizzard we are talking about - smart and cunning heroes aren't their thing apparently). To each their own - I have diabetes attacks from alliance and Night elves since Warcraft 3 and was more than happy to play as Scourge

The ONE thing that I need from this battle is that you as a player are apart of the soldiers fighting there, not the MAIN FUCKIGN HERO riding around doing everything to win the battle. Making it more look as you together WITH the Horde wins the battles instead of you SINGLEFUCKINGHANDINGLY wins it. Make Players become apart of their factions not the hero OF IT.

WOW! This is so atmospheric! WOW, just WOW! Thank you for this preview! Two things I didn't like: - Stone color in the main castle is meh. When it was with purplish tints (original) it looked a lot better and had like it's own charter. This bleak gray greenish marble look of new version looks like it's out of place and plastic. - Smaller main gate entrance looks weird, and not like "the Main Gates" should look. Especially after you were seeing bigger gates and proportions for so long.

I agree. I think what happened is that while trying to add more detail, Blizz kinda messed up the scaling a bit (which again could be temporary as the zone is rectified as we get closer to release). Some of the coloration does look a bit off throughout the city as well and the main gate area definitely feels a bit small considering it's the highlight of the entire cinematic/event. What blizz got right so far is the charred ground and siege camps that definitely add to the feel of a coastal invasion. Also the skyline is amazing I'd love to see something similar in other zones. And thanks I appreciate it :D

You sure the gates are smaller now? just looking at the footage, assuming the road is the same width before and after the changes, the gates are about the same size. What may have changed is the tower that the gates are in are now larger which makes the main gates *look* smaller when they haven't changed much. I don't have access to the alpha but an easy way to compare would simply be take a screenshot of a character, possibly on a mount, in the gates on live and BFA.

The night is passing, the dawn has come! Seriously though, I think it's intentional...the return of Mankind to their long-lost Capital brings with it a change of "signamancy", as in a new color pallet inferring the return of natural light and the dawn.

I have mixed feelings about this on one hand its kinda cool to see it remastered but on the other hand it almost brings a tear to my eye to see my favorite starting area destroyed like this almost feels like a cata 2.0 :(

I'm pretty sure that when you create an undead at level 1, you still quest through the old zone. Once you get to 110, you'll be on the same timeline as the live game, and the map will change after you experience the battle in game. It's the same for night elves, they'll still start quests in Teldrissil

We have had 15+ years to enjoy this area the way it was. Time for change to freshen up our experience. I USED to hate the Cata changes. Especially bwcause I used to be mostly Alliance. So Darkshore to the Astranaar area pissed me off. But I learned to appreciate the changes. Also, remember that Lordaeron was taken from the Alliance originally. Time to be given back.

I never would've thought the Alliance will ever retake Lordaeron. This is so cool! Too bad I deleted WoW 3 months ago. Maybe I'll reinstall it once the expansion hits.

Even Blizzard knows they can't top Wrath. The story, Lich King, raids, music, atmosphere was top tier. Legion did come close though!

I find the Wrath music to be especially fitting for this zone and the rich story that came from it. Plus, it hit all the good nostalgia points (my first character was an undead). These zone changes are quite bittersweet! The new skybox and new resolution buildings are awesome, but it is kinda sad to see the landscape absolutely wrecked.

I quit WoW multiple times due to the fact that at times it really gets boring but my god.. it always brings something new that messes with my nostalgia and innovates. I mean this zone really feels like a battlefield from what is shown. Can't wait to renew my sub once it comes out and play it all! Can't wait to do some cool RP as well. This war is going to be amazing!

Looks like Lordaeron gets some tough love. The changes are amazing, especially if you consider the damage is done by the Alliance led by a Light-Wielding-Priest(Paladin?). Can't wait to see what is left of Teldrassil/Darkshore/Ashenvale(?)

Who knows. Burning it to the ground and then prompting regrowth might be faster and healthier than trying to purify and regrow diseased plants. With the burnt land, almost all of the plagued stuff is eradicated, and so the druids can safely start from scratch. But WPL is still plagued, and with the much worse EPL next to it, filled with the Plague Fungi that has barely seen any purification attemlts, I can't see the WPL efforts going so well.

I must admit, as someone who is firmly in the Gilnean camp of things, it was VERY satisfying for me to see the corrupted land of Lorderon blackened and destroyed by artillery, the buildings reduced to mere rubble. Now hopefully they make Gilneas a full capital city and have the elven refuges settle there like the Gilnean ones did in Teldrasil.

I'm afraid the Lordaeron is doomed, it is said in the Blizzcon preview that Lordearon is an indefensible ruin Plus, I'm sure that if the Forsaken loose the city, they'll at least infect the whole of it with plague before they fallback

Salting the earth would very much be a Forsaken tactic, same with chemical warfare to reduce casualties on their side seeing as their population is limited (assuming all of Sylvanas' Valkyr ran off somewhere... She still had quite a few after the siege of Gilneas, and she has deployed them in the battle for Andorhal. Though I don't think I've seen her with any as of late...

I am Alliance, but it is sad to see Brill destroyed. It is sadder still to see what became of Southshore. I am very glad to see the City of Lordaeron restored to the Alliance. I hope the buildings and the grounds will be cleansed and restored to their former grace.

Southshore used to be on of my favorite areas for Northern EK. Sadly in cata it got reduced to a disgusting sludge pool of plague and undeath. Andorhal was also one of my favorite questlines in cata but everything was just one sided, and horde won everything that xpac.

there is something i'm curious about, se we are getting this new update for Lordaeron, however if i am not mistake the destroyed version of those capital are going to be available only after lv.110 meaning is there going to be a updated for the not destroyed version of those capitals?? (i say those capital because Teldrassil is also another zone that is getting a update considering it's going to burn) i mean you can clearly see the high detail difference on the new version against the old so i hope blizzard gives each capital a new updated version ( not destroyed zone) for low lvls, so they can have something new to see as they lvl up their characters.

I believe this will be active for all players at 110, but there will be an NPC to temporarily change the zone back if you wish. But yes all the changes are here to stay once completed.

Somehow I can imagine that the Alliance won't win the battle of Lordaeron. Maybe it will be the same like this one questline where you went with Varian to liberate Capital City and stop Putress. So close to win but then BAM Alliance goes home again with empty hands

Vanilla undead locations(and other old stuff before lich and cata) were my favourite. Old undead architecture now so stupid and soulless stuff. Im happy that blizz recognized their mistakes about changing those zones and wipe them

That's an amazing skybox. It is a little bit weird though how Blizzard seems to get off on destroying old zones.

Hmm, I'd say during. At the current time it looks like the alliance has already landed and has pretty much demolished Brill and set up camp. While in the upper city there's still plague barrels and artillery which means the horde are still holed up in there. So it's like the setting right before the fight/cinematic would take place.

It's like an orchestral version of Arthas, my son but I think it's titled as Ebon Hold theme. Not sure if that's the official name for the track tho!

Seeing Brill being completely destroyed breaks my heart. I wonder if that's how the alliance felt when they saw Southshore fall into the Horde's hands... We will avenge the Undercity. Lordaeron belongs to the Forsaken!

The battle for Lordaeron and the burning of Teldrassil are the main events leading into Battle for Azeroth. They're like the spark events that ignite the main faction conflicts for the coming expansion.
