Is it just me or does this Mazda sound like a Honda Vtec combined with a Ford/GM startup noise, and mixture of Toyota and Subaru combined! 😅

The 2004 sounds like a new Hyundai chime

Despite being modern, the R-x8 from 2004 onwards sound a little slow to start. Might have something to do with being rotary or maybe just wear.

My theory is it has something to do with the comparatively low weight and inertia of the rotary’s internals (due to lack of reciprocal movement) which doesn’t require as strong of a starter. While the RX-8 starter IS slower than the RX-7, all rotary starters are slower than piston engines. It’s a small quirk of these engines that I personally love, even though it often misleads people into thinking there’s something wrong with the battery or starter.

0:38 1. Sounds like the 2010s Honda/Acura Chime 2. Actually does not look old for being a 2003/2004 model.

Too bad most of them are probably sitting with seized engines..... Buddy is restoring his 2000 Mazda rx7 that was originally his uncle's and you guessed it engine failure due to seized engine.....
