My cousins and I once played Mike Tyson’s Punch out and took turns each round. We kept losing to Glass Joe because none of us knew how to play.

More of a resurgence than a rise, since Punch Out!! was big when it came out and even for a while after, but Nintendo stopped running it for some reason.

Doc Louis just pretends to be weak, it's especially shown since not only did he create and perfect the star punch, but his star punch knocks you down instantly if it hits you, and if you make him mad the WVBA gives you a warning saying they're not responsible for what happens from now on during the fight mostly meaning Doc Louis is going to unleash everything on you.

In Punch-Out for the arcade, Glass Joe goes from being the worst boxer to becoming the Top Ranked boxer, meaning he was holding back and destroyed every single other boxer to face Little Mac for his world title.

I'll respect the choice of featuring TD Glass Joe for the Wii Punch Out even if he is significantly harder, also, the player on the record din't use the infinite trick that involves star punch and knocking helm off, only using the same good old way that in the Contender.mode

Don Flamenco in the NES Punch Out can literally be knocked out if you keep altering between left and right punches alone, not letting him even do anything if you're fast enough.
