I purchased one. I took delivery on March 28th. I traded in a 2019 Mercedes Benz B Class. I didn't really like the front end, but it has grown on me over the time that I had to wait for it to be delivered. But I think that it's its weakest point. Family and colleagues say it's very sophisticated looking and my brother and sister in law think it's nicer than my B Class. The interior blows me away. The ride blows me away. The build quality blows me away. My gas gauge has moved one tick since I took delivery. I purchased a GT model not a GT Premium which is what is shown in the video. The only difference is that you don't get the upgraded leather seats, massaging front seats and 4 way lumbar support instead of 2 way. By the way, I purchased this with the intent of using it as a two row vehicle. I doubt the third row will ever be used. However, there is a video on KZfaq where they load 7 adults in and head to Starbucks, so it can be done if all three rows compromise on the leg room. It rides great on the highway, which is when I put it into Power mode. I also quite like Tarmac mode. When not highway driving, I drive it in EV mode all the time and it easily charges to full overnight using a standard 120v outlet in my garage.

Hi Kenneth! So glad I found your video. I test drove the SEL model today, and signing the paperwork tomorrow -- getting a nice BLUE one! YAY!!! I shall sleep a lot better tonight... your comments helped me feel even more confident about the purchase. We met a few times at your displays in Erin and Cataract last year. I'm thrilled to be joining the growing ranks of EV drivers, even if it's a PHEV (this time). As you say, a great transition option!

Thanks for the review! -- I bought my 2023 Outlander PHEV (SEL Premium) 4 weeks ago - local dealer (Columbus, Ohio - USA) had 7 Outlander PHEVs on the lot. I got mine for $1,200 UNDER MSRP and the dealer gave me $31,500 for my 2018 Acura TLX -- I paid $18,000 plus tax for the Outlander. I have driven 1,340 miles -- getting 78 MPGe. I am plugging it in every night for my daily commute and weekend errands. It feels "luxurious" inside -- premium leather, panoramic roof, 360 camera, power folding side mirrors, heated, steering wheel, heated seats, hands-free tailgate, head up display, Bose speakers AND massaging seats! If I take a longer drive, I will have no "range anxiety." Plus, the Outlander has a 10-YEAR WARRANTY. ONE BIG NOTE: the owner's manual clearly states that the 3rd row is ONLY for people under 5' 3." I do not need a 3rd row, so I "tri-fold" it. This opens up a HUGE, DEEP storage well. And, I can stack duffel bag items on the folded 3rd row! The RAV4 Prime may have better overall mpg, but the 18-month wait and $12,000 "dealer adjustment" are outrageous. One local dealer wanted $65k for loaded Prime with MSRP of $52k. I did not consider Kia or Hyundai brands -- "Kia boys" have stolen 3,000 of them in my area (and assaulted drivers in the process). This is a real issue. Lastly, my home solar panels will be installed in 6 weeks along with a Level 2 charger in my garage. The Outlander PHEV is the PERFECT choice for me in 2023. Final note: the local dealer now has 14 Outlander PHEVs on the lot and offering $1,250 off MSRP. Availability, luxury, value and price -- a great vehicle to "step into" electrification!

Thanks for watching! Appreciate the feedback and congrats on your PHEV purchase! Also thanks for all the info, very helpful and I did not read the owners manual, but that makes sense in the height recommendations! Agree, RAV4 Prime is way too long of a wait and the markups are crazy. I have a friend who wanted the Prime, but Toyota talked him into the HEV version instead. Not nice. Great to hear about your solar and you are way ahead of the game, nice!

Very good review. The car does have full stop when using adaptive cruise control in one pedal driving mode when following other vehicles as when the vehicle in front stops this car also stops about 1 metre behind. I've been getting 75-85 kms per charge in EV, Eco,and one pedal driving mode combined when using adaptive cruise control. The third row is tight but if one moves the front pax seat forward and the second pax seat behind forward the same amount then there is sufficient room for a small adult and children. It is NOT a useless feature! I have a 9 yr old and he sits just fine regularly in that third row with no complaints as with a baby car seat and mother in second row and wife with self in front that third row is very handy. The only complaint I have is the side curtain airbag does NOT cover the third row. A fauxpas by Mitsubishi! Another fauxpas is the towing capacity as the IDENTICAL car in Australia and the world outside of North America the car is warrantied to tow up to 3600lbs or 1600kgs. The car is quiet. I have Nexen tires which are not to my liking yet are mud and snow rated though noisier than General Altimax rt43 in my Ford by quite a bit. However the car is quiet. I have received the Australian fuel economy rating of 1.6l/100 kms after the battery is depleted then in hybrid mode around the city but normally around 1.7. Using the car as a hybrid and driving 90-100kph I get 5.5-5.8l/100 kms which very good. My 3.0l 2007 FORD gets 11.5l/100 kms at it's very best. In town the Ford gets around 15l/100 kms. Taking into account electricity charging I am saving $3600 a year in fuel costs here in Victoria, Canada. At this rate the car will pay for the plug in feature in 2 years. I use the full features 100% of the time. I notice that when the heat pump/fan/AC is turned on the km range drops 6 kms from full charge but the battery level shows no change. The loss, if one can call it that, is easily recouped by the regeneration. Power is superb and instant. Transition from electric to ICE to electric is imperceptible. The sunvisors also side out a little to cover sun coming in a right angles. I do have a problem with the audible parking sensors as the front ones are negligible over 12" - not good. Rears are better but not 6' as advertised. I'll have the dealer look in this as it is a warranty issue. I'm sure it'll be resolved. The cameras work perfectly and are really good, clear, and also at night. Wish Mitsubishi had dash cam and rear cam as an option. Turning radius is excellent- very tight. Disagree about the cargo cover in the review though as putting baggage with the cover intact is easy and lots fit. Removing it and storing it when away from home is awkward as reviewed but frankly if storage to be needed in the day then I take the cover out before departing. Putting it back in place is not an issue with rear seat flat. I don't like the loudness of the audible pedestrian warning sounds as they should be lower when moving forward as they can be heard inside the car under 45kph. If I had my druthers I would remove the forward one. Seating is superb - my wife attests to that almost daily. Massage feature never used. If anyone has any questions I'll respond. I love this firm riding car that corners like it's on rails.

Excellent review. There is a way to force this vehicle to be only electric even in cold weather (it's in the owners manual). By using this trick, we have our gas consumption down to 0.7 Litres/100km. It's looking like we can go for several months on a tank of gas with our city driving.

@@grantlindsay8102I would advise against this. Plugin hybrids needs to run ICE time to time keep it from rusting. We have seen some plugin hybrids with rusty engine parts in Europe where people don't use ICE enough. Of course it says it on manual you have warranty. Just think about it.

@@grantlindsay8102Good info to share. I've always been a strong advocate for owner's manual reading, cover to cover, and some sections read again as often as necessary. I've heard that Mitsubishi has a means to measure and alert to stale gas quality. The car will default to ICE turning on to lower the quantity of fuel enough to make room for new gas. Apparently, depending on fuel level, if this override is triggered you need to add at least 15 litre of new gas to upgrade the old fuel. Maybe you can confirm the specifics if it says this in the OM? If I get one, I plan to use the engine purposely in parallel mode at times on the highway, to charge the battery instead of charging at home. Regular use of the engine in scenarios where it is actually working and not cycling off, especially in the winter, is very healthy for good engine and fuel system longevity. Another tip..refuel with new fuel no later than 1/4 tank remaining. This fuel serves to cool and lubricate the internal tank fuel pump. And depending on use, probably would reduce the frequency of seeing the default engine use mandatory to burn old fuel notiifier. So, 7 months now and various different weather and temps..how are you liking the new ride? Any issues or has the love intensified?

In parallel mode the engine is NOT sending only SOME power to the wheels, but the most of its power, since it is coupled directly. Motors only assist.

Again, thanks for the info. Like I said, many OEMs use the PHEV and battery/engine/transmissions very differently so it is sometimes hard to get these details. However the main point is moot. A certain amount of all-electric range then petrol. That is the main idea.

@@EVRevolution your main idea of using only electric energy is wrong. In school we learn that gas engines have a theoretical efficiency of 66%. No more. I mean impossible. But electric motors have an efficiency of more than 80%. Now, when ? Gas engine at high rpm and electric motors at low rpm. This is why they are used COMBINED. To obtain those 63 mpge. Go to school and learn some physics.

Chademo in 2023 in North America? I suppose fast DC charging is not really that important for a 20 kWh battery PHEV. Much cheaper to AC charge.. Also I really like your update to the KZfaq intro and outro. 🎉
@EVRevolution
@EVRevolution Жыл бұрын
Thanks John for watching and as always for your support! Yes, I would also surmise why it is CHAdeMO for this. In Canada, everywhere you can find a DC Fast Charger, there is always one CHAdeMO outlet. The rest would be CCS. So it is not as uncommon here as it may be in the U.S. or other areas. With that Mitsu-Nissan-Renault alliance, a lot of parts and tech is shared hence another reason for CHAdeMO. Like I said, I don't see many really utilizing the DCFC for long road trips. They will just stop for gas. Where this PHEV shines is for the majority of everyday driving and charging overnight at home or via a L2. Thanks for the feedback, I've tried to spice it up a bit!

@@ricknolen8545 We recently tried out the DC fast charging option on a road trip. Worked great. Actually, if you're traveling, it's less costly than a Level 2 pay charger, at least where we were driving (Vancouver, BC), since it charges quite quickly and the DC fast chargers near us charge by the minute. Our car typically starts charging at 37 KW and then tapers to 15 KW at about 70% capacity. Nice to have so many options for charging (Level 1, 2, 3, or gas).

Bought one SEL trim realy like it. It got a spot to put the lid when the 3rd row is up. The only complain ive got is the charging solution witch i found to be kind of stupid. Dont get me wrong it get the job done but speed charge chademo 40kw on a PHEV is a lost of time. 45-50km (80%) in 30-45 min wich is 13$/H in Qc so about 7$/50km = 14$/100km = 8-9L /100km what is the point just stay on gas. An the 3.4 kw home charge is a 2 sided knife! Public lvl 2 are 7kw so it take twice long and cost twice the price to. That's a paint but, the home installation would be much cheaper if you know electricity a bit and dont get riped of by the dealer or the electrician installing 50 amp 240v circuit an outlet and a fix 7kw charger, that you dont need at all. That would cost about 1500$-2000$ minus any gouvernement incentive if you got one of those. Let me detail the cheap version you need 20am 240v so 3 wire 12 awg an outlet 20amp 240v non GFI 2 pole 20 amp breaker and a portable charging cable 3.4kw 16 amp on 240v. Should cost 300-350$ you miss any gouvernement incentive of 600$ but you dont pay 2k$. So it will be cheaper of at least 1000$. You will be happy as long as you dont use public charging station. That car is just simply not made for that they should have skipped the fast charge completely and lower the price.

Thanks for watching and for joining the "Revolution" with your Outlander PHEV purchase! I agree with all of your points. The DCFC is there for those really wanting to go all BEV as much as possible, but the reality is I don't see it being used very much, as per your points. True also about the home charging, and the ability to get a less costly solution installed. That is where hopefully the dealer will provide good advice on, or the consumer will have to do homework. We can't shift any blame for lack of information all away from the consumer. At the end of the day, no matter what the product/service is, it boils down to the consumer making an educated and informed decision and if they don't bother to get educated, well whatever happens, happens. That is why I feel what I do is only one part of the overall EV education experience. I can provide a lot of solid advice, but I am no electrician or chemist or other specialty, so it pays to look at multiple sources for info and invest the time for a very important and expensive decision in purchasing an automobile.

All good points. The DC Fast charge is best for a quick charge (under 20 minutes). Still nice to have the option though. In BC there are even a few free DC fast chargers. Public charging at Level 2 will only make sense if it's free, since this car has only a 3.3 KW AC/DC inverter. We found lots of free Level 2 chargers on a recent road trip.

Again, you don't know what you are talking about when talking about the pedal. It's not even expected that acceleration pedal to FULLY stop the car. What happens is, when the pedal is depressed, it switch the motors as generators. They use the inertia of the car, mechanical energy, transforming it into electricity to charge the battery. Thus lowering the speed of the car. This is why it is called regenerative braking.
