I'm in the minority, but I love the prequels as much as the originals. Yes, Ewan McGregor was fantastic as Obi Wan. I hope one day we get a stand alone Obi Wan movie. I'm curious to see what he may have done for 19 years, perhaps thwart off a threat to Luke and his family to ensure their safety. An argument between Uncle Owen and himself as to the direction Luke's life should take. It could be very interesting and exciting and I'm sure Ewan McGregor would be happy to take on the role one more time.

DarkkrowRogue Vladimir, Well I am a fan of both OT and PT. I usually don't post too much about the PT because as you said the haters are very vocal, to the point of vulgar and insulting. I just wonder why it has become acceptable insult other people just because they have an opposing viewpoint.
@DarkkrowRogue7 жыл бұрын
Enterprising Captian exactly, people are so vulgar and mad about their points of view that they bash and attack anyone with the opposite one. This is just sad,it's complete lack of interpersonal skills. The worst thing is that the media is indulging such people. I've seen many times how reviewers, journalists and other media make same "prequals are shit" jokes, for example making fun of Anakin's dialogue with Padme in episode 2, when he was comparing her to sand. Like if that made the whole movie horrible. People cling to such small issues and make mountains out of molehills.
@enterprisingcaptian8757 жыл бұрын
DarkkrowRogue Vladimir, Some people really need to see classic interviews with the original cast and crew of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi to hear them talk about the films one might think they were talking about the prequels. Bad dialogue, terrible acting, no character development, lousy directing, etc.

@enterprisingcaptian8757 жыл бұрын
Samuel jeriko .B, Alec Guinness was 63 while filming Star Wars. Obi Wan was 25 in TPM, 35 in AOTC, and 38 in ROTS. Add 19 years, that's 58 years old by ANH. From 58 to 63 is five years between Obi Wan's age and Alec Guinness's age not a huge gap actors player older/younger all the time. Besides all movies/series are flawed.
@unseeliesidhegoddess2 жыл бұрын
Even more than his physicality, McGregor did an astounding job of matching Guinness's voice. I've always thought that even in the PT, now watching the series I was really struck how McGregor's Kenobi has changed and matured over the years to blend more with the original portrayal, but he always had that voice down. He's such a great actor. Underrated imho.

For the "twinkle in his eyes" thing, I think that's because as Obi Wan has gotten older, he's become less serious and mellowed down. A lot of actors will say they do not watch their predecessors performance before taking over a role because they will never compare and they just don't want to try. (Example Michael Gambon as Dumbledore) This is not one of those cases. In Star Wars it is more important to be consistent. Obi-wan first appears to us as an old man with a secret past and as we discover this past it is important we believe he is the same man and will one day become Old Ben. It made Ewan's job harder but more worth it. Sometimes I ask myself if the actors in the prequels were fans of the original star wars. For Ewan it does not matter. He has probably watched Alec Guiness's parts more times than any fan.

Fun theory: The force is the same, dark or light. Two sides of the same coin. It stands to reason, while there wouldn't necessarily be a disfiguration like the dark side, there would likewise be a penalty for taking in too much of the light (more than the danger of being swept away by it). Dark side disfigures Light side _ages_ Not casual use, mind you. Any time you extend beyond your means. Using all your free time to practice dark arts to get stronger, prepare for disfiguration. Have to dig deep in the light to stretch beyond your means (dedication instead of anger), prepare for a quickening of your years. Makes sense why long lived species like Wookies, or Yoda's species, would be more powerful Jedi. Also adds an extra reason to take a force sensitive as young as they can, not just to dissuade attachment, as well as a damn good reason for Obi-Wan's rapid aging during those years.
