Mid Grade Circuit boards contain a fair amount of gold recovery items that I or others can buy.
For those that have no access to local boards buyers, this is a good option if you have the time.
Scrapping tools, safety gear, wire strippers, metal melting furnaces, crucibles and ingot moulds that I use or recommend.. www.amazon.com/shop/ewasteben

An absolutely terrific episode. I used to drop off my boards at a local recycling facility, after removing anything copper or aluminum for melting. Your videos made me aware of what's on the boards and I started depopulating them about a year ago. Every video informs me of other items that I should have been removing and ones I shouldn't bother with. Thanks 😊

@cptrikester2671
@cptrikester2671 2 жыл бұрын
@@WhatsthePOINT_EDC sorry, I'm just a hobby scrapper looking for materials to melt (aluminum / copper) I keep all IC chips for future gold recovery adventures. Pins with gold plating for future gold recovery adventures. Various colorful bits for potential future whatever art krap I may make. Some items have exposed gold wires inside (discovered when cutting them open). Tantalum MLC (probably a waste of time for me because I will probably never do the chemical processing to get the precious metals) Relays for copper and silver. Good luck with your adventures.

@@WhatsthePOINT_EDC I don't have high expectations. When I started collecting I learned that the best way is multiple acids, but dangerous gases are produced. Very nasty and I'm leary of doing that. Separated the bits into five 'grades' of potential results and planning on trying smelting method, I have the equipment for that.

I’ve learned a ton of him starting several years ago. I’ve always had two yards close to me that take everything but circuit boards. Then I finally found one 30 mins away that takes them, currently up to $1.50/lb. and they even pay higher on non-ferrous, so I save up for a big load of boards and wire, etc. I did learn from Shark more about Boardsort. I have to send higher paying items usually in the $3-$4 and higher range to offset shipping. Either way, it all free $$

You need a pair of what's called flush cut wire cutters. They're machined so they'll cut flush to something as opposed to dikes, which won't cut flush to something. Disadvantage is the tips are delicate and easy to bend.

Great video. Thanks! If you didn't know you can strip the green solder masking on those boards that are full gold flashing under with lye and hot water - see your video at 45.24. You can actually get a lot of gold if the whole board is covered in gold under the green masking.

What you call monkey grips I would call Channel locks. If the start to ware you can sand / grind the tips slightly to square up the edges. Works great! And I find having two pair at hand is nice. One set wide one set narrow. Saves me changing the size of the opening back and forth.

There is some more to pick from the boards if you want... At ~ 43:00 the metal casing on the network ports is (usually) brass, sometimes it's just steel. At ~ 46:00 there's a red switch with gold plated legs. At ~ 49:00 another red switch, and two relays on the right side (the white blocks) which can contain silver/gold contacts. At 1:10:00 not a transformer, but a relay again. You could also get the transistors. They can contain gold bonding wire too. As you mentioned it all depends on how much time you have to depopulate the boards. I even take off the crystals from mainboards, and here and there a few capacitors or pins (not too much). The midgrade boards you are selling with the heatsinks on them would go as low grade here in germany. The same with slot cards and mainboards with metal parts or fans, they go as midgrade if you don't remove that dead weight.

good stuff as always. would like to a video on the different Cpu's that you buy explaining the differences. particularly though would like to see one about the 3 grades of gold pins that you buy and where you can source them. for example pins from IDE cables...(im assuming these would be low grade rating)

Prices are very different here in UK, before I started saving for the board buyer I sold more chips on ebay, you may have seen my video showing what I get and my copperless top gold corner bga's typically sell for £90-£120 per kg, so I still cherry pick some 😉 Loved this video, always such amazing advice, glad I got to watch before work 🙂😁

Sreetips latest vid was a bag of pins, so perfect timing. He's used to working with much larger concentrations of gold, so he did this vid just for the electronics scrap crowd. He got two grams from a sandwich sized bag of pins. His method was to dissolve out the base metals from under the gold plating, so lots of acid and time. Large scale refiners probably do electrolytic refining, which MBMM is about to try. It's all stuff commercial processors have been doing for a long time, but they're not going to share their secrets.

Thank you very much for these videos. I have no one to sell bords to, or rather, I have a lot o mid-grade boards & they will only by server grade boards. Consequently, I depopulate all my mid-grade boards. I'm pretty sure I have resin-dipped tantalum capacitors straight, but I'm intrigued to know how you identify resin dipped MLCCs? I mean, the capacitor is just marked "C", so, are all resin dipped capacitors marked "C", & are not tantalum, MLCCs? I'd appreciate your, or anyone else who maybe able to enlighten me, because I hate to think about what I may have not been keeping.
