For about 6 years I've been cutting the ends off my cords & I ended up stock piling over 3,000 lbs of cut cords. When I went to sell them at the highest priced scrap yard they said that I didn't need to cut the cords because they pay the same for cut or non-cut. I really wasn't all that disappointed because of a couple of reasons. One I liked it because it was kinda therapeutic and two I had a couple hundred pounds of clean brass because I'd also get all the brass plugs I'd cut off. I'm not a professional scrapper, I do it as just a hobby. So loss of time & money is ok. For anyone else out there it does matter make sure to check your scrap yard before you put too much time into it.

Yo Ben! Good to hear prices are going up. .385 a kilo on pressing steel is great. Poly Prophet is still only getting 15 cents a kilo and he does all the hard work, to gather and bring in. Plus his fuel cost, driving around. Doesn't seem right. You didn't mention the price of copper but we'll know in the near future when you decide to take in a bin load or two. And to think, all those thousand and multi-thousand dollar computers/servers are just pennies on the dollar in e-waste and scrap. Some of your invoices though, are for amazing amounts. Your saleable PCs and laptops, are even more amazing. I'm always impressed. Keep On Scrapping!

Great video, Ben! Those "Rubbish taxes" are total BS! I see Canada is now doing it as well. Nothing here...yet, but I do see it coming! 😡 You've got a hoodie on and it is going to be 95 (35C) here today!! That statement isn't quite so funny when the tables turn and it's January here and we're all bundled up and you're wearing shorts!! 😂

How about hydraulic garden shears for your cable processing? They'll be a lot easier on your hands 🤷🏻♂️

At 67 the hands aren't what they used to be. Carpal Tunnel and arthritis, totally suck. As if wanking isn't enough challenge at my age.

If you invested in a granulator you could process all the plugs and cables and low grade boards into buckets of copper, steel shred and junk.

I don't kniw if it's worth it, but I save the door switchs in microwaves. The terminals are usually silver plated, and of course the contacts are silver. Likely just silver at the contact points.
@vroom43110 ай бұрын
Cost 300 to 500 to produce one oz (that is only chemicals cost). It is worthless. Gold is just now hitting prices where it's worth it. Silver has a long way to go. Probably beyond your lifetime.
@68Eric8610 ай бұрын
I keep all the components with silver contacts in a small barrel. I break down the large ones. I look at as an investment if it goes up like crazy some day awesome. If it doesn't, oh well.
@aredditor427210 ай бұрын
@@68Eric86 I know lots of people think silver is undervalued, but per my earth sciences education, it's a common byproduct of copper, zinc, lead, gold, and a couple other types of mining. I do save contacts, though.

I don't sell my batteries to scrap yards any more.. I take them to a parts store and they give me store credits. I get 10 for a big battery
@TheUltimateRecycler10 ай бұрын
You've gotta be careful with those capacitors Ben! Always good practice to short out any large ones on boards before you start scrapping!

I've been dismantling scrap electronics for years, but here in Germany it's only worth unscrewing the PC and collecting the mainboard, graphics card and hard drive for a scrap dealer and here you're not allowed to take electronic scrap off the street, just like that Forbidden and represents a theft by the law unless you ask the people who stole the things on the street then it's not okay otherwise it's the same with the garbage tons of containers if you are wanted to do this you will not be charged with theft even though it should be thrown away👍💪💪
