These sheep were crutched about 2 weeks before the rams went in . It keeps them clean over the winter and they lamb inside so cold is not a problem .

You really have to shake your head in disbelief at some of the comments you get and you see on other videos. That's a cracking bit of kit btw.

We bought a 2nd hand unit and it has been problematic. How do you get the sheep into the unit so easily? Also, does the end shuts stay open long enough for the sheep to get out? We find we have to hold it open. As for those criticizing this video, it is a benefit for the sheep as it helps them to avoid getting fly blown which is where flies lay their eggs, the eggs hatch into maggots which eat into the sheep. So what would you rather? A shorn bottom or maggots???

Thanks for posting. Do you only do the crutching before you put the rams in late summer/fall? Do you find it prevents flystrike? Any issues with the cold weather? Thank you!

Why all the hair from sheep’s body is removed. Why the sheep’s body and neck is twisted?
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
There is only a small amount of WOOL removed from the rear of the sheep. At no point is body or neck twisted. Are you a robot or commenting on a different video?

I think you can clearly see from the footage that all the sheep are stood contently after been handled. Not sure how you justify your claim.

Well, it's better than dropping them on the ground and trimming...

I have adopted a dog and I never put him on a leash or in a cage...He roams around freely and we don’t use him for our benefit. We don’t use him in any way...We don’t earn anything from him....Infact we provide him best dog food and take him to vet for his regular checks...
@rbrb23584 жыл бұрын
Why don’t you only trim the sheep. In this process we all can see that the sheep’s neck and body is twisted as if they are a commodity not a life. They are not handled with care which can lead to a lot of stress. Because of this stress sheep can suffer from fear for days.
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
And the sheep demonstrate any stress where exactly?
@rbrb23584 жыл бұрын
You turn them upside down keep them at confined place....Is this ethical? If humans have right to move freely then why not non-humans? If humans have rights to be free from slavery then why not non-humans.
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
The sheep are restrained for their own safety and to make it safe and easy for the operater to perform various essential tasks. They come inside only to lamb and this again is for the sheep's benefit. Inside they our safe from predators, have unlimited food and water and of course aren't effected by bad weather.

Douglas Edge Morning Douglas, i was wondering if I could pick your brain about the operational side of this unit? Could we possibly exchange numbers? We have a unit and have a couple of queries regarding it? Thanks Craig Robertson

I know it’s not the skin which is removed, it’s the hair but why is it done? Is it just to use these sheep’s as commodities and make an animal product so that humans can use it...we can use cotton and polyester sweaters. Why do we have to shear an animal who can’t speak for our use...
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
Are you suggesting a man made fibre like polyester that uses valuable natural resources in its production and cotton that requires large amounts of water is better than a natural , renewable fibre like wool? Sheep have been kept by mankind for thousands of years. They convert grass into food and wool for us, provide employment and help maintain are environment. I'm sure cats and dogs cannot speak either. Do you have any issue with people owning them for their own benefit?
@rbrb23584 жыл бұрын
What a great reply. Sheep’s have been there for mankind for thousand of years. How do you know this? Did God come and tell you that. Slavery was also there for thousands of years then why is that not ethical. You are sheep’s as salves so that you can earn an employment. You impregnate the sheep forcefully and then a lamb is born you take the lamb away from their mothers so that you can sell the sheep’s milk and other dairy products....Do you think exploring a life for our benefits is ethical and moral?
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
@@rbrb2358 There is plenty of historical evidence to show how man has farmed sheep for generations. Do some more research and see for yourself. Again not sure how God fits into your argument? What force our you referring to when regarding getting the ewes in lamb? These ewes are not dairy sheep and lambs are kept on there mother's till they our weaned at a time when they our self-sufficient ie eating grass and don't require their mothers milk.
@TheRawrjamface4 жыл бұрын
It's done for the sheep's welfare, leaving the muck on for flies to lay eggs in and then get eaten alive by maggots.. That's cruelty right there. Maybe you should see an anaemic half eaten ewe for yourself first hand and then see what you have to say. I've worked on a sheep farm of 400 ewes for ten years so my comment has a lot more validity than yours. I suggest you stop spamming this hard working farmers youtube videos with comments before you get yourself banned.
@rbrb23584 жыл бұрын
This is an abuse. This is how god has made this living creature. You have no right to shear the sheep’s hair. What right you have to remove an animal bark from his/her body?
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
Sheep don't bark. Dogs bark. Removing the wool and any dags from the tail benefit the sheep by keeping it clean and stopping any risk of flystrike. As a responsible sheep keeper it is all helping the ewes to have a comfortable life.
@rbrb23584 жыл бұрын
Why do have to use sheep’s skin for humans. Have you asked sheep about it? Did sheep give you a consent to remove the hair from their bodies? There is nothing religious about it. Why do we have to wear animals skin? We have other options to keep ourselves warm.
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
It's not the skin that is used. The WOOL is removed every 12 months. It grows back and the process is repeated. The sheep is not killed to shear it. I think you might want to research this part of sheep husbandry in a bit more depth to gain a more accurate picture.
@rbrb23584 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have enough knowledge about all this. There is no justification for “humane killing” and using animals as commodities for just your survival. If you won’t feel for them in your heart, nothing would change. This is not their natural habitat. They are not meant to live in small space and be used for their skin. Leave them as god has made them.

You are just defending and justifying whatever you had been doing since ages. Have you been confined and used from ages by anyone like this, would you accept this? Wouldn’t you feel that your freedom to move and be with the lamb is taken away by someone who is exploiting you and using you for their own benefits...We humans can’t feel for another life... Th are what is destroying humanity....we can easily coexist with non-humans without exploiting them and using them for our own benefit..
@douglasedge24134 жыл бұрын
Of course I'm defending my way of life and occupation. These sheep are farmed to the highest welfare standards possible to produce wool and feed people. I view this as a healthy coexistence and have no issue with it. The sheep have everything they need for a healthy life . If you actually had any real life experience of this industry you would have a better more informed understanding of it and you never know, you may actually learn something.

Disgusting cruelty and abuse to animals. Go get some education and stop using animals for your profits. Animals are not our to wear, eta or experiment in any way. These abusive videos must be removed from youtube.
