I don't understand the outrage this generated, this is such an "old man yells at cloud" moment. 1. Original Hitbox has already had this functionality and ease of use for a EWGF since 2012. The execution barrier has arguably been lowered for years now. 2. There are also already a ton of other peripherals on the market that essentially do this same thing, like the Mixbox which replaces the arcade stick with arrow keys. 3. Execution has arguably been trivialized for years anyway since Tekken came to PC. If you use keyboard for Tekken, then you essentially already have your own Hitbox/Crossup. 4. Execution =/= a better player. If some kid is tossing electrics, then he's gonna get blown up. Plus a beginner would still need to use movement and miles of knowledge of frame data to even pop up at locals. I get this notion that "it makes the playing field unfair" if you're using a default controller, but here's the thing. Few people are going to tournaments using one anyway, and arcade sticks already cost an arm and a leg.

In the year 20xx taunt jet uppers, acid rain-blazing kicks and every just frame imaginable mapped to a single button will be legal. Leroy will still not be nerfed because everyone will be using pre-recorded combos mapped to labeled buttons on cabinets covered corner to corner with them. Everyone will play characters with unchickenable parries because everyone has input reacting bots that will auto hopkick over every low and parry punish everything else. Thank you for making this video. It is frustrating trying to explain this to less experienced players who haven't practiced this game (or any game) and just want everything to be super easy. Even on your previous video about the hitbox, there were people that were somehow convinced that the cross up is the same as an arcade(!).

i've been using DS4 my entire life since tekken 7, and i set the L1 button for 2+3 input, and trust me hitting electrics has been easier for me, i even lands a guaranteed electric after heihache D2+3

I don't get how people can argue that this isn't cheating. "Execution isn't everything" no, it's not. But when you make it stupidly easy and give yourself a competitive edge over someone not using this controller, you've now cut out one of the key aspects of this game. Now all you need to focus on is fundamentals, reactions, etc. We've seen this case with fariborz, where he's absolute garbage, despite macroing EWGF, but it wouldn't even be an available tool for him to use if he wasn't macroing. At this point, just make EWGF a d/f+2 move with the same frames, same damage, etc and tell me that it's fair.

Doing electrics on controller is also very easy, by mapping the 2+3 input to L1, the game takes the input as 2 and since the the L1 button and the direction buttons are both on one side of the controller, only 1 hand is needed to perform the electric which makes it way easier than doing it using both hands

You actually can do something like this on a ds4 pad, If you change how you bind your directions. Sonic fox demonstrated this by switching his forward and back inputs to L2 and R2. You can very easily change this in the PS4 menu.

It almost makes the Mixbox look like a hard controller to use.

Wheres the satisfaction in seeing someone do something that either the minority of people or noone else can do if every else can do it? Sure winning isa great feeling. But winning it through skill is better then winning it because of an easy mode. And yes im salty. I didnt practice my ewgf, ewhf and otgf for no reasons dammit.

To be able to do electrics at will is a massive offensive tool. The confidence I'd have every match with surefire electrics would be sky high.

Dear Mainman, I need your wisdom as I am a fail of a Kazuya main... I've been playing Tekken "properly", or at least trying to, since Tekken 7 released and the pro scene got my attention, butI've been playing Tekken since T4 but never knew the true depth. Long story short I am forced to play arcade stick to my years of gaming have left my thumbs crippled, so I can't practice for long periods of time unless it's with my stick. I've had my stick for about 12 months and still feel like I picked it up yesterday, combos I can sorta get the hang of but it is the movement that hurts me the most. I've looked up so many different wavedash and backdash guides (your videos included) and I still cannot do either consistently, I can pull off the EWGF sometimes, I play on right side as you suggested. But my biggest issues is how do I hold the stick 😅 to perform movement in Tekken, when I see your videos of your hands playing, it's also so fast I can't phantom how, now do you pull off EWGF so quickly and so well, do you manually move the stick for all the inputs, or can you simply do the motion now with your hand like it's a reflect? I use the Razer Panthera like you. I'm honestly not sure what I'm asking, but as I love this game and your content I want to be able to play ranked and against my friends and enjoy the game

Truth be told, this was a very good tutorial on how to do EWGF.

im surprised no one else is debating about a specific thing: sure, not only will this thing break the learning curve for electrics, execution for characters that are difficult, but it will also just make pro players who may want to use it just dominate even more. You guys cant even see pro players go cheap? pfft ive seen kkokkoma change only to the cheapest characters u can imagine. kazumi,leroy,dragunov etc. not only will the trash players still have trash skill with an easier mash-button electric controller, but also the pros who are willing to go cheap. so this isnt really closing the gap imo, its merely just improving everyone elses level at the same time. Imagine when top pro players cant beat "trash" players anymore because theyve caught up to execution practice, movement practice, all with the cross up, and the top players still used the regular arcade stick or controller. Electrics-schmelectricks. Im more conserned about effortless KBD with this thing. 1) Hold back on the stick, 2) Tap the "down button" 3) Release back on the stick 4) Go To 1 5) Get a perfect backdash cancel every time with just two motions. This stick kinda breaks a lot of moves in the game.

There's an even smarter way to do it and some high IQ folks online figured it out a long time ago. Just get a script and do it with one button.

I see both sides of the story though, I personally love execution in fighters but the argument is kinda like this: It would be bullshit if I had to do a double blackflip to move my Queen in Chess, would removing execution change fighters? Yes, it would make it all about the mental aspect of things, match up knowledge, spacing, distance to wall, setups, frame data etc would that be a bad thing? Possibly, possibly not, it could see a change to fighters we've never seen before, top 8 would solely be based on their skills in the mental game, it would turn fighters into Chess, now we already have chess so I don't want to see that happen and I enjoyed spending way more time than I should have in training mode practicing combos and electrics, my electrics are very consistent thanks to that, but a new zoomer kid goes out and buys one these boxes and immediately is at the same level or better than me with electrics, does that make me a bit salty and annoyed? Yeah, but if its accepted by the gaming communities/commissions of tournaments then we gotta just basically shut up and deal with it, times change, things change, rules change, we will see in due time what awaits our beloved fighting games

Tekken becomes easier to play when you play on any device capable of sending separate directional inputs. You can move the buttons around on a standard PS4 pad using the accessibility menu (tourney legal btw). Electrics are MUCH easier when you move U,D,L,R to the face buttons. a standard joystick lever, aka the thing Tekken was “designed around....” doesn’t have these “problems“ right, but isn’t he on a Mixbox? Doesn’t he promote them?

You can also use the same hand to press directions and 2 using a controller by biding 2 to L1/LB

I understand why people are concerned about this, but trying to ban controllers isn't the solution. This problem could be avoided if they just coded the game to not allow simultaneous digital and analog inputs. Currently Crossup is just taking advantage of the games pre-existing logic.

You can actually map 2+3 to your l1 on pad making it a lot easier to do electric

But you can also place the buttons on the Playstation so that you can do it with one hand. For example down to R2. You can also customize the buttons on Xbox and PC.

I remember when they said leeroy had no execution this is true now that the Mishima execution is taken away. Uproar I spent years on electrics and I never felt the real clutch consistency I felt was needed to play Mishimas at a high level. Legit i would consider getting this. The problem is that I've been playing Tekken for decades. I can respect the dedication to takes to be a really consistent Mishima player. So I don't know I have mixed feelings.

The magic, or "spark" (sue me), i guess you could say, of the EWGF and its variants is precisely its high executional demands. It's not just the lightning - it's also what that lightning represents. It's also my impression that people who play mishimas are attracted to high executional demands - where are the mishima players going to go if having an electric seizes to be a sign of high execution? If enough people use this namco would probably have to rebalance mishimas, as the high-execution demand of their key move, the EWGF, is a huge factor in balancing them. I don't see how this wouldn't lead to a change in the fundamental nature of Mishima characters and their identity. The mishima identity - in terms of gameplay and story, is an integral part of the Tekken identity. In my opinion, using this stick with mishimas undermines their identity, and thereby identity of tekken as a whole.

i mean look at the bright side... they can do easy electrics, yes. But they will never feel acomplished by how much work a REAL Mishima has put into his character PERIOD.

Not just the ewgf yet many other techniques that requires execution like for example the TJU can be performed easier by having access to extra direction inputs and making its come out faster

They are still actually entering all inputs themselves so I see no problem. I know a lot of Tekken players like to go on about execution same with melee players but execution is just something that allows you to do what you want to do if everyone can suddenly execute everything perfectly 99% of the time and it allows abusable tactics then that is due to bad game design. What it should do is place more emphasis on decision making and game knowledge. This also does not help with timing and spacing. You can cry that there is smarter control methods that make things easier to execute but thats your own issue for using execution as a crutch or some weird form of elite fornication in the first place. Just because it puts them on an execution level they can compete with more drilled players its not going to give them experience or make their decisions better and if you already have the execution needed its not going to matter anyway and will likely be counter productive for a long while as you have to relearn muscle memory. As long as people are actually executing all commands themselves i.e not a macro I say let them use any control method they wish or the alternative is to standardise a control method i.e all players must play on a basic PS4 pad for instance.

Every single other competitive sport has standardized rules as to what you can use. You can't bring a cricket bat to a baseball game. You can't bring a football to a soccer game (yes, I know, American). TO's need to flat out define what you can and can't use. "Yes, you can use a pad, arcade stick, hitbox, or mixbox. Full stop." Or something like that. Doesn't have to be those exact controllers. But until they standardize equipment FGs will continue to have weird loopholes that TO's have to dance around and give vague or no rulings on until it becomes a problem. Slippery slope fallacy all you want, but if they don't do something, at what point do they?

I thought about it, and it actually makes more sense to do ff with the stick, and d2 with the buttons at the same time as the second forward input. Less total motion with the stick and the same button pressed whether facing left or right. It'll require proper timing, or else a forward dash with come out instead, but nevertheless, the entire point of this device is to braindead inputs.

You can setup buttons on a pad in a way that allows you to do this. That's the only reason it was legalized, it doesn't utilize any macros to achieve two movement inputs. It just feeds into the same inputs that a pad has.

It still takes some practice, but it definitely is easier to do. In matches, until you get accustomed to the Crossup method, you'll still mess it up.

Man even as someone who's looking to make their own hitbox, there's a line between ergonomics and assistance. Having two ways to do the same directional input through controller hardware is pretty clearly over that line
