This brother is telling the truth! I was a cop in South Carolina so... The same thing happen to me and I'm still being harassed. I left law enforcement twice because of it. Wasted almost 15 years of my life! They tried their best to smear my name and character because i started speaking up . I could tell my story and more, but its too long. If you knew how depressing it is to realize you assisted these people. Although I didn't do the things that white cops did, I assisted and sit back for a long time and let it happen to my people. It will take a toll on your mental health. When I speak up now they label me as disgruntled. They will run every black officer off if you speak out down here and its not right. Its so much that happened that I wish I could say, but this guy is telling the truth!! This may sound like a made up story, but in 2021 I went to apply for this special casino security job in North Carolina on the border of South Carolina called three kings casino that paid well and this white lady called the police on me because she didn't believe that i was a cop. The cops pulled up and put me in there car and took me in saying that my license plates was messed up on a car my girlfriend bought that day. They really was looking for a reason to charge me with a felony. I cant find any lawyer to represent me because they don't believe ME. Again sorry about the length. I'm trying to start a group for us ex cops of color who have been done wrong.

I'm sorry to hear that those crooked cops harrassed you and are still are harrasing for doing what was right. I commend you for trying to be that change that Black communities and other minority communities need to see in policing. We need upstanding Black police officers to police predominantly Black communities. You may have to seek assistance from a civil rights attorney to help you file a harrassment lawsuit against that police department. Make sure you collect all your evidence (videos, paperwork, etc.). The more the better. You and your family deserve to live in peace and free from harrassment. May God continue to protect you and your family from those crooked cops and from those that support. Asè. 🙏🏾

Cops do this to white people every day. Sooo... basically you're realizing cops will do everything to make an arrest and twisted it into racist BS in your mind. Right... White people are harassed and beaten every day by cops who clearly just want to take us to jail. It's happened to me. It isn't about your skin color. How tf could you be a cop and not understand that's just how they are?

As a Hispanic former police officer myself, I can tell you everything this man said is 100% true even where I worked in the Seattle region. I always felt out of place. The snide remarks, the "Mexican" jokes (I'm Puerto Rican), the way Blacks & Hispanics are profiled and the racist comments when working those sectors, the illegal searches, the judgements of people and assumptions of guilt. I can go on and on. I became a cop because I wanted to contribute and serve society. I wanted to show others there are those of us who do care. I wanted to hopefully make a difference in someone's life by my actions or something I say, regardless if they were criminal or law-abiding. And I hope I did. But there is a LOT of power in holding a badge. Cops have the ability to affect someone's life, sometimes forever. And many use that power and ego to violate people's rights and make false arrests primarily of black and brown citizens. It was the most fulfilling work I've ever done. But it was also the most depressing. Huge kudos to this young man for speaking out.

If only every officer was like you. I had the police put me in hand cuffs and throw me in a mental institution where they had me misdiagnosed to try and destroy my life. Before all this occurred, I had a deep appreciation and respect for police men but I have nothing but resentment and deep hatred for them. I just can't look at them the same way I did and I probably never will.

@Mickey Casova Do you think if there is a government place where police officers like you or any good officer can go and unanimously report their fellow officers of police misconduct and abuse of power that would make a huge difference in get rid of bad and corrupt police officers out of the force? I understand police officers are afraid of their fellow officers in fear of their own lives so they just have to go along with police culture. Also do you think qualified immunity should be abolished there by holding police officers acceptable just like any civil servant in the country?

Does not change the fact that I have more to fear from black men than any white cop. Let's keep it real. I rather have the jokes than being attacked, offed etc...Did the white boys gor your feeling hurt grow a pair of balls and be man and instead of weak B....Crying about some stupid joked and you want to protect and serve. Let's be real it's white cops needs to save black people from black people in the USA. You men need to get your priorities in order. If you don't want to be ridiculed by white men than choose profession where you can be on top. Always complaining about being a victim of white instead of being a man. Latin men start playing the victim card bow as black men? You better get it together. A few illegal searches etc.. does change the fact that black men off eachother every 15 minutes in the USA. They are thugs, bums, losers and don't build but destroy so I don't feel sorry for them. It's a fact that they are a world wide menace to society even here in London. So I could care less the more that are of the streets the better I feel and yes I am black South American woman and I see the truth so stop being a weak b..

I’m a retired black female officer and I totally agree with everything he’s saying. I was that person who didn’t go along with the so call program. I always tried to do the right thing for the people of color and the higher up knew. I couldn’t stand around and watch how they treated the people of colored. It wasn’t easy bc they labeled me confrontational and I mean the higher ups and my fellow officers. I worked in Spanish Harlem for 17 years and the Bronx for the remaining 3. I did 20 years And RETIRED. I hated the way they talked or treated certain people. I retired 2016 and I promise you things haven’t changed. I was only one person who stood up to them, it’s gonna take all of us to tell them right from wrong. Congratulations for standing up for what you knew was wrong.

This young man is 100% correct. I was in law enforcement for 38yrs and I been there and done that. I've been pulled over by other agencies and was even questioned about how I became an officer, as if I wasn't worthy of getting hired. I've then asked them the same thing then filed a complaint against them. I was treated this way by Torrance PD in the mid 80's. Back then Torrance, Signal Hill and Long Beach PD was known for being racist departments. I was LACO Sheriff when this happened, while driving my Porsche 911 Targa Torrance PD pulled me over for unknown reason asked me to get out and put my hands on the car near the rear now if you drive a Porsche you know the engine is in the rear HOT I told him NO my hands are by my side not in a dangerous position and that's that! The driver searched my car while the contact officer tried searching me. I said tried because he was nervous and was missing areas. I just let them to see how far they'd go, he finally got to my wallet then opened it and seen my badge. All of a sudden I became "Partner". The officer searching my car then stopped with a perplexed expression on his face (Knowingly that he fck'd up) but still being arrogant asking "How did you get this job" I told him the same way you got yours. Long story short I reported them and they both got suspended for awhile and sued the department. You got to keep notes, dates, times etc. My department got wind of if and realized that I wasn't the one. Over the years I had to get a few of my guys in line. If you get that rep they can be assholes by not showing up when you put out a back up call, fckn with your locker, smearing rumors about you and even calling in sick when you see the lineup sheet for partners for the next day. I didn't care I was a lone car a many of days. Can't let them break you. Coming from the hood South Central L.A. I was well known and treated my brotha's and sista's with respect. I'm now retied for two years and I understand what this young man was going through. Keep your head up and God Bless.

I worked as a Peace Officer for the California Department of Corrections & Parole and also trained in Palmdale & Los Angeles to become a Parole Agent. We always knew and called the LAPD one of the most corrupt in the state of California. I worked with ex-LAPD in Corrections in California and we were told about their horrible experiences, which some of them sued LAPD and won their cases. Even Parole Agents did not trust LAPD due to their racist views and the manner in which they choose to handle certain Parolees and people of color. I thought about becoming a police officer in LA, but could not bring myself to join LAPD due to their crookedness. Corrections was very crooked, but LAPD was even worse. LAPD has even assisted crooked politicians, district attorneys & judges, wealthy Iranians & others who come into the United States to buy homes they take with the help of known Mexican gang members to harass and beat Black men, women & their family members, putting them out their homes to profit. It is called RICO and LAPD involvement is prominent. There is a notorious dangerous Mexican family totally involved that the LAPD works with hand in hand. This Mexican mafia like family has infiltrated themselves inside the court system in L.A. They are clerks as well who changes the paperwork w/o the consent of some judges and some judges are involved in the taking of properties of Black People. There is a huge case at federal level that is being investigated brought forward by many people of color after their properties were illegally stolen from them making them homeless. I am talking about these LAPD assisted situations where these big ass Mexican gang members breaking into these people’s homes with weapons and grabbing them throwing them out of their homes onto the streets and boarding their homes up. The false claims of taxes not paid, which was not true. One of these cases will be brought to light soon due to one main case where the LAPD assisted these gang members in roughing up a person, hitting them and pushing them down injuring then and the LAPD refused to accept a police report. The LAPD hire themselves to corrupted individuals to steal people’s lives and properties. Soon, this will come to light! They have even placed innocent people in jail w/o any charges over the taking of their property. These same corrupted LAPD & LA’s justice system corrupted from the judge, district attorney down to the policemen in conjunction with a corrupted DMV official who work with wealthy interests to steal other people’s properties. They have even tried to steal the Trust of others by stating in court that the trust of the homeowners was actually given to some stranger, which we learned later was a ghost name and a crooked lawyer. He is now known and in hiding, but this crooked lawyer had the complete attention of the LAPD and its j crooked justice system complete assistance. Soon and very soon LAPD!

It was a stepping stone for lateral moves to better agencies. But as a new boot, I had a white supervisor and his other white minions in the department that constantly made me feel inferior and incompetent literally making it impossible for me to function emotionally as a fully trained P.O.S.T Certified new Officer. Their racial prejudices and even with an earned degree in Administration of Justice, the biased and prejudicial attitudes made me eventually open my eyes that the lack of professionalism in law enforcement. This is terrible but it only half of the equation. A lot of predominantly black neighborhoods are rife with not only crime but disdain for law enforcement. There is also a “no snitch” policy which allows criminals and people who destroy the community to go unpunished. A lot of black people nest to also take accountability for this situation too. Then there’s lack of black people in prominent positions. That is the only way things will change. We need more young black people aspiring for higher office, professional work, and law enforcement. That is the only way things change.

"I wonder if we will ever be equal as a Human race" I've pondered that question most of my life, especially through my younger years. In my mid 60's now, am convinced we will never overcome the Devils within us as a specie. The fragmentation of the Human Tribe continues much as it did 500 to thousand of years ago. You and I might look alike but I was born on the Guatemalan side to your Mexican side; so, we're different. This energy is alive the world over, then you add in division based on wealth and the madness of walking backwards continues. In Terminator 2, the kid asked the terminator, "We're not Gona make it are we"? "WHO" "We us people" "It is in your nature to destroy yourselves" responded Arnold, Pains me to say this and wake nervously to the thought, BUT, I DON'T THINK WE'RE GOING TO MAKE IT!

I have been through this many times and actually got a dozen frivolous tickets because I dared question the white officer why I was stopped and why he was questioning my passenger. I told the passenger that he wasn't obligated to answer since he wasn't driving. This pissed off the cop and I ended up with all those tickets which was eventually dismissed in court.

They have been even requesting ID from backseat passengers. I was the passenger in the car with my husband as the driver and my daughter in the backseat. The police officer asked for all of our ID's. My daughter was 16. She did not have an ID. I have heard of this in other cases. The fact that she was a minor and not in the driver seat gave him away. He was full of BS. Why are you even addressing her? The police department loves to hire these good for nothings to bully the community. I ALWAYS believe the police departments all over the country need accountability committees of unrelated citizens that have the power to send them to jail for misbehavior and treatment. These people should have the power to audit and evaluate the police department based on the community. They act like kids on a constant basis.

Great interview you are a good person thank you for serving I wish we had more black officers like you, iam 63 year old black woman I have never been in any type of trouble have no traffic violations, I live down south in Alabama one night I had went to a friend party, about 11:00 that night I was driving back to my house about 10 minute from the party this young black cop pulled me over asked for my linces and insurance I gave it to him, he told me to stay in the car he went to his car and called in to check my information, he can back and gave me my papers back told me to get out the car so he could search me I was so nervous and scared because I was alone, my son house was like 20 feet from where he pulled me over I asked him if I could call my son to come out side he said no he had me to blow because he said he smelled alcohol in my car I told him that he didn't because I was alone and I don't drink he was so rude and nasty attitude he told me that I could not drive my car home I told him that I was not drinking and I live right around the corner less than 5 mintues from where he stopped me he kept me on side of the streets for 40 mintues he said he was going to arrest me I call for my car to be towed after all this had been done he called for backup when the other offices came he told the other offices which was white that he needed to borrow that thang for me to blow in after he had me to blow before the office got there, after the white office saw that he was wrong he got in his car and let, then all of a sudden he told me I could go I called the police department and reported him there was nothing done about it So we down here in the south have some low down black cops as well as whites

Great interview with a very smart ex-officer. I am so glad he left the dark side -- probably saved his precious soul. I know from personal experience that living as a Black man is a crime. Everything we do is a crime. I don't even have a criminal history, yet the police are always watching me. As a Black man it is a crime to breathe air, walk down the street, live peacefully and quietly in your home, laugh out loud, smile at someone, ask for directions, shop at a store, drive a car, sit on a park bench, and (God forbid) LOVE anybody! ❤

Which is why I made the decision never to have and raise any children on American soil. In my opinion it is just too toxic on the mind body and soul. And my parents gave me all the love, emotional support and encouragement I could want. But it was just so exhausting for them to fight those demonic external forces from infecting their three children. Thank God my military veteran father made sure his three kids went abroad almost every summer to different countries around the world. Where I learned how human beings are supposed to treat one another. But also what America may have in abundance and what it sorely lacks. I think many of us are ambivalent about America. My father truly loved America but didn't believe America truly loved him.But he chose a twenty plus year military career because he felt it was the only way he could best take care of his family. And allow us to see the rest of the world. We are told America is the greatest country in the world. In some ways it may be.In other ways it is not.

He would talk trash about anyone with older cars, low income neighborhoods, it was truly awful. I remember just feeling sick to my stomache constantly around him listening to him judge people less fotunate. There's definitely a power trip going on, feeling 'better' then someone else due to cultural status. My heart goes out to anyone mistreated unjustly. There are insecure bullies everywhere. Unfortunately, prejudices are everywhere and endless depending on the mindset of a person. Stay safe, stay strong and love everyone as yourself until proven otherwise.

I used to drive public transit in a major city, I drove a route that stopped at the VA Hospital. I would get almost all of the Veterans when they had appointments at the VA, because of the shift I worked. Many of the black vets had their coverage either decreased or cxld, I would hear them talk about their experiences, they made more trips to the VA, to find out what was going on with their coverage, which was supposed to be for life. Many of us do not understand the systemic order of racism and it's infrastructure throughout society, it is engrained in the laws, workplace, neighborhood red zoning, healthcare, food markets and grocery stores in our neighborhood areas, the list goes on. There is a reason why the entire world is against us, yet imitates and celebrates our culture, while denying us a seat at the table we built. Please read Deuteronomy 28:68 (start there), then read the entire chapter. There is also a movie documentary that all of our people here in the US (Extreme West Africa), should watch: Hebrews To Negros (Wake up Black America).

He is absolutely right about not fighting back. About stating that you don't want your car searched but don't fight them. Get a dash camera and hid a camera in several places within your car. Make sure you keep your car clean of debris and packages. If it is night turn on your dome light place your hand on the steering wheel. Get a travel folder for your registration, insurance documents and driver’s license and keep it on your visor. Roll your window part way down and place the folder over the window so it is ready when they approach the car. Keep the conversation short and to the point. If they violate your rights, don't argue with them. Follow instructions, keep your mouth shut and pray for the best. Follow up with a complaint. You do not need a specific form so dont go to the police dept to try and find one. You can simply write a letter and send it to the internal affairs dept, attorney general for the state and anyone else you think should see it. Be safe out there.

The drug dealers shot at me more than 15 times; but I did not quit and finish my 25 yrs in the black neigborhoods. I was respected more than the black officers by the citizens. This is a great interview and I think you should do a lot more of them, we as a race of Black Americans should know more about Police brutality racism and etc. The problem is that we know nothing about how they’re actually portraying the Black community people and young black men. I know that the way a young man dressed can cause him a lot of problems and in many cases his life. We’re all looked at as thugs or a criminal, which in most cases whites are not and get away with everything 😮 I truly believe that interviews like this will make People of color much more aware of just how the Police Departments are seeking out Blacks and Brown people of America! It’s wrong and everyone should Know more about their criminal activities and why they’re being official taught theses tactics 😮. Please forward more information about theses techniques…….

One of my boys sued the shit out of them for handcuffing him to a bench in the locker room on duty because of a disagreement with a white officer. They beat his ass and waited for an LT to come on scene. He sued for millions, changed his name and we haven’t seen him since, and that was in 2007…His brother was an LT and basically lost his own distinguished career as well for his own safety and the safety of his family. Being from Southern Cali I know first hand it does not matter if you live in a low income neighborhood or nice suburban area, if you are Black you can be targeted by cops driving while Black, or seemly being Black in public, you will be scrutinized. When living in suburbs in Cali, when my siblings and I started driving, our father told us if you see a cop following you, drive to a well lit area like a gas station, restaurant or place nearby where you have witnesses. Do what they ask at all times." A few years ago while visiting my parents, my brother pulled into the driveway. The garage door was up when I went into the garage. My brother was taking my mom's wheelchair out of the trunk so he didnt see a cop stop and get out of his car until the cop put on his bright light. I said, "Officer is everything alright?" He was already proceding down the driveway. So my brother turned around."How are you doing Officer?" It was nighttime. So the officer says,"Are folks okay?" I said "Yes, we are fine." I didnt want my brother to engage with the White cop. So, the cop says "You people have a goodnight" and got in his car but didnt drive off immediately. My brother folded the wheelchair and said,"These redneck cops always harrass Black men. Dont know why our parents moved to this neighborhood where no Black folks live!" I hurriedly closed the garage door and told my brother,"Something told me to come outside. Glad I did because he probably would have asked you to prove you live here." We were upset about the incident but my brother tried to make light of it and said,"Yeah, you coming outside looking like Madea in that bathrobe convinced him you were staying here. Probably thought you were the wife!" I now live in a major city and in the 20+ years living in this city, I have never seen a White person stopped for a traffic stop but in the summertime is when the police amp up policing Blacks since the city has been gentrified. In my opinion on the weekends cops are out to protect whites enjoying city night life but see Black males as threats to Whites and make traffic stops, looking for a reason to get young Black men off the street. In 2020 my daughter and my 6 year old granddaughter were returning to my place from shopping. It was in the summer and as we all got out of the car my precious granddaughter saw a cop driving by. She opened the front passenger door and dropped on the floor. "Mommy, I'm scared, I want to go home!" She had already concluded cops couldnt be trusted! As a Black woman I realize that Blacks are treated as refugees by Whites ,periodt! This attitude of superiority that makes them believe they have the right to track our movement, immobolize our movement by questioning "Why are you here? Prove you belong here!" is an attitude that has been perpetuated from slavery. It is inherent in a people accustomed to their whiteness empowering them to weaponise the judicial system against non-whites. And now we have Latinos in law enforcement treating Blacks horribly trying to assimilate into a police culture that historically violates civil and human rights of Black and Brown communities, and as we saw with Tyre Nichols, Black cops are cops first and their Blackness is secondary..

Bernard is definitely a positive role model for our community. He is such a well spoken, calm and thoughtful speaker like Obama. Thanks for sharing your experience as a concerned and caring police officer and a citizen with us. As a grandparent I sometimes fear for my grandchildren and their friends so I try to discuss issues without preaching now I can show them this video because you came across as someone they can relate to… Thank you and God Bless…

It's a lot of black people that fool themselves into believing everythings equal and that it's all a matter of pulling yourself up by the bootstraps. They don't understand the complexities of systematic racism and methods of psychological/cold warfare being leveled against us. We are in hostile territory and need to get to the bottom of it. Read: The Negro Family: The Case For National Action. It was very helpful in understanding what's going on. I mention it every chance I get because every black person needs to read it and understand the tactics being used against us.

This interview hit so many high notes with me. Biggest one is my tax dollars are being used against me literally when it comes to policing. He's right tho about how police came to be. That entrenched original sin still ain't dead.

It makes him look like he is being grilled. (Help represent your guest in the best version) Great job overall!!! Thank you.

I'm 64 and what I'm seeing in terms of the voices standing up aganist racism, black people being profiled, and killed , by police is like a dog chasing it's tail. People are out in numbers protesting & screaming for them to give us justice, and the justice is good....but we need to create our own justice from within. We must teach better ways, by unifying as a people , like it used to be, We had mentors and Communty Leaders right in Minneapolis, where George Floyd was killed. Instead of waiting forever for America to agree to reparations, it time for us to begin diverting our dollars inward, to beautify our neighborhood,. There is so much i could say...... this young man has great insight, about starting with the kids who are being misguided. It truly takes a village.

He said, 'if they start talking back, I'll write them a ticket.' When I got out of the military and came back to Houston, I was ARRESTED for 'talking back,' by a rookie officer who I simply told that I did not have a home phone number. (Yes, he told me I was going to jail for talking back.) I had called the police for help. He is just like them; but mad that they gave him that n wake-up call to show him that he will never be one of them😢

I’m latina Hispanic, I’m in the middle on my skin tone incase you wondering. I wanted to add to this conversation, that when I get stopped by cops for traffic tickets back in the day, I remember, not getting any eye contact from those cops. Very straight and to the point. Didn’t let me say anything at all. Very cold, like no emotions at all. Some times they need to act more human. It does put fear on us if they completely unhuman. But, I do remember the time when I was younger and my friend’s car was reported stolen, but never reported recovered by a different police dept. , The big city we were at, we could’ve been in a serious situation with our faces towards the floor. Anyway, like a miracle, the cops- were sooo many surrounding us, did give us a chance, which half of the cops there didn’t want to. Just to let you know, there are different types of cops out there. On the side note, my uncle was a cop and he’s not a very sympathetic man. He did tell few things he has seen when he was working, while working and left him traumatized. He’s seen so many awful evil things. I know not an excuse, Just an insight to what some cops may go through. My uncle said he needed therapy but the police dept. Did not offer. He drinks and I think that’s he’s therapy. Anyway, good bye and God bless. Yeah, we all get uneasy when we see a cop behind or close when we driving. We don’t know who we going to get if they in a mood.
