This video demonstrates how I select a frequency that has no traffic and start calling CQ and having stations coming back to me. The concept is instead of chasing QSO's and trying to make the contacts on a bust frequency I started trying when the band is open its easier to just find a open frequency and set back and just call CQ, lucky there are many stations coming back and it's easy to choose the best receiving station and start the QSO, today I made three quick contacts with the folks below:
KC3NRI- 28.470 @ 21:56 Dave
AF6DR 28.470 @ 21:58 Dirk
VE3PP 28.470 @ 22:13 Rick

I have my dads old Ranger 3500 and I can't put an antenna on the place I'm actually living in right now but I thought about putting it in my truck. I might pick your brain about a good antenna to buy for it. Also, I'm a little fuzzy about SWR. I remember him being fanatic about it and he always took care of that for me. Good evening Jeff, thanks for the I was a CB guy too some advice is stay out of the CB shops, those radios advertised as 10 Exports are not really HAM quality radios, there RF emissions are sometimes very band meaning you transmit one several frequencies outside of allowable HAM recommendations, I just wouldn't recommend them they are only 10m and many do not cover the entire band, email me shope02@yahoo.com we can discuss further, I spent a lot of money in my CB days and I learned that the gimmick is loud sounding radios and the CB shops do a l lot of magic to make them sound loud but from an emissions stand point would be tolerated in the HAM world, get back to me, I'll help you 73

Good evening Gary how you doing? Well that's a good questions, look on your display on the waterfall box just above the water fall left portion you should see IPO, this is the default RF Gain if this is set to AMP1 (will add 1.6 S units) or AMP2 (will add 3.3 S units) which could be increasing the noise floor. 2nd thought what kind of antenna do you have? Mine is a CP-610 from Diamond, this is a dual band 6 and 10, the 6 meter is vertical and the 10m is horizontal so that may account why my noise floor is low. write me back well keep working this I'm kind of curios too 73 and let me know be glad to help. That depends on a bunch of things, really. During the up and down swings of a solar cycle, daytime is *usually* best...during the autumn and winter months in the northern hemisphere. The band typically opens an hour or so after local sunrise and closes an hour or so after sunset. DX is measured in thousands of miles. Spring and summer are different. The band is *usually* dead from local sunrise until late afternoon, then it opens up with sporadic E and can stay open until well past midnight. DX is measured in hundreds of miles. Summertime weather, like a big dome of high pressure, can bring about a *tropospheric* opening. DX here is typically less than 500 miles and is a great way to log areas close to you.

I have a crappy 10 or 11 meter radio but it just has letters for the channel your on. wouldnt even know where I was at. Not to mention It would nt be legal. I bet I could study to pass the ham test. the 900 dollar part is the hard part for me. What would be a decent enough radio that I could afford to talk to ham radio operators after I get a license.
