Underrated, underappreciated, and almost forgotten classic. It has been rediscovered in the last ten years and it is getting the respect as a great movie it so richly deserves. Fun Fact: All of Bill Murray's acting brothers, John Murray, Joel Murray, and Brian Doyle-Murray, appeared in this movie. John's the only one that played his on-screen brother; Joel plays one of the guests at John's party, while Brian plays Bill's on-screen father.

Less fun fact is that their mother died just prior to this film going into production, something which I think may have caused the unusual rain of Murray's.

If you couldn’t tell from Danny Elfman’s score, the movie was originally going to be a touch darker in tone. Fortunately they decided to lighten it up so that it’s now a holiday classic enjoyed by all.

I always love the touch in this Christmas Carol version that the dark potential future also includes the negative influence Frank had on Claire. It nicely rounds out the bleak possibility that the Scrooge analogue that doesn't change will not only go unmourned and allow innocent people to suffer, he'll end up making good people worse.

Love the sweater...and the hat...and the background. This movie came about when producer Art Linson was sitting in the office of a studio head...and it had not been redecorated from the last studio head, and it was over the top garish and self indulgent...soul-less. Which got him thinking of Scrooge. THEN he remembered "A Christmas Carol" was in Public Domain, and got VERY excited. And YES...Karen Allen played Marion in Raiders of The Lost Ark. Fun Fact; Bill Murray's older brother played his Dad in the flashback scenes and his younger brother played his younger brother. GREAT reaction Kay! (Don't let anybody blow on your tummy until they marry you! ;)

One of my favorite christmas movies. It's one of those that almost HAS to be watched every year. I've loved it from when it came out in the late 80s, and it sure shows when it's from. It only feels a little dated on the surface over 30 years later, but the message still works 178 years after Dickens gave it to us. BTW; did you know we can blame a weird hitch in the climate about 200 years ago, that we in "western culture" now associate a perfect christmas with snow? As it happened, Charles Dickens was a young child in one of the coldest periods Europe has seen in historical times. So cold that even in London, where he lived from age 3, it snowed almost every christmas. (1816 is called the "Year Without a Summer".) This had such an impact on the young Dickens, that he described christmas in his works with snow and cold. Since his times, I've heard it has only snowed on christmas in London twice. But his stories are a part of the culture so many of us grow up with, that it seems normal even for someone in wet and grey London to think of christmas as a time of snow. Hope you all have a fantastic rest of the year, no matter if you have snow or not.

With actresses more often than not it's because they picked family over work. Some do, some don't. There was an actress in a couple of John Carpenter films that disappeared so suddenly and completely from Hollywood that people actually thought she was dead. When they looked into it recently as a bonus feature for a John Carpenter film DVD it turned out she just became a suburban housewife/homemaker elsewhere 😅 I get it to be honest - some actors make so much that going back for more and more is either gluttony or avoiding real life, because most of Hollywood is just fake PR, shooting films (with lots of boring downtime) and fake parties. Some people just cash out and go and live life instead.

I love this version of the Christmas Carol. What this movie does so well is it's sort of the excellent "endcap" to the Reagan-era 80s. The ideal of greed, corporate power, and sharp suits was deconstructed during the 90's in exchange for the bohemian feel of those early years on Friends. But this movie ... it's like the emergence of that world. The final word on how a decade of capitalism was reborn into a world looking for authenticity.
