A very useful and efficient way to populate different connected dropdown lists. Explained and documented in a very professional and helpful manner.

Great video! My favorite way of doing dependent dropdowns is referencing a spilled range in the data validation that is created using a filter function on another sheet that is filtered using the initial dropdown. So for the example you used for the multiple ranges you can use the initial INTL/Domestic input to filter three different ranges to feed the three dependent dropdowns. This can also then be used to have multiple dependent dropdowns using multiple filter criteria.

Can you provide an example of how the FILTER function could focus the other dropdowns on their respective entries? My brain isn't connecting on this one. Thanks.

Can this work where the various lists are formal Excel tables (not just presented in tabular format)?
@bcti-bctiАй бұрын
Off the top of my head (without testing) I would think that it would be difficult to perform this using proper Excel Data Tables, as those tables cannot have duplicate headings. The three "plain" tables in this exercise all have identical headings.

It would be great if Microsoft would allow for the Filter function to be used directly in Data Validation with spilled arrays. All of this would be so much easier.
@bcti-bcti2 ай бұрын
Even though you can't use the FILTER function directly in the Data Validation tool, you could have Data Validation point to a spill range generated by the FILTER function's output.

@@bcti-bcti Yeah! unfortunately, the Data Validation Dialog Box requires a range reference or a formula that returns a cell reference, so sometimes we can get it to work using INDEX or OFFSET functions as they do return cell references not just values. But I too always suffer from having to point to a location in my sheet instead of just generating the list on the fly.
