This was the first movie Montgomery Clift made after his huge accident. He was worried about what he looked like and if he still had a career. I think he is doing and looks fine.

Excellent acting - but the writing is terribly pretentious and "stagey."

I think it's beautiful, but it is indeed stagey. Guess it just depends on your taste or mood.

Agreed. The worst dialogue in a film is something better fit for a stage play.

@@ricardocantoral7672 I heard Myrna Loy say "because they are trapped," but she said tramps, really. I think she communicated both words at the same time. The sheer beauty of her expression is captivating. Maureen Stapleton immediately shows that she was eavesdropping, or trying to.
