Not really. @@akallstar5 lol this. AOC isn't an law professor. She isn't financial analyst. Her team seems to be devoid of those. Her argument here just sucks. She stands on moral issue. While it's great and all to debate on morality of US financial institutions, this will get her nowhere. In US justice system, morality gets you nowhere. If Wells Fargo purposefully and knowingly invested in a pipeline that would cause environmental damage and financial lost to areas around it, it would be liable but since it's really impossible to prove unless the executives brag about committing crime on tape, that argument is wasteful. If the bank did not contractually accept that responsibility in the first place then they shouldn't/wouldn't have to pay for the spills. You can't offset those charges to someone else that just incentivizes the builders to do a shitty job because they know if the spill happens then they won't have to fix it or pay for the fix.

@@BrickTamlandOfficial If a bank finances a company which leaks oil into the environment continuously and as part of their business model, yes the bank should be held accountable. Much worse - financing a company which constructs and maintains facilities with cages for children. Yes, personally I believe they (banks) should divorce themselves from that business relationship. It shouldn't be a Democrat or Republican issue. It is a basic humanity issue. Children in cages is bad. Providing any support for that is bad. The fact that many don't seem to understand this is astonishing.

Little did they know, there's a process called legal immigration that they failed to follow. Thus they're in prison for it. You know, the crime called illegal immigration... Right?
@Kallisto.05 жыл бұрын
@@randycruz4000 I agree that immigrants should probably try to get here legally. That's not the issue here. It's the inhumane (and illegal) ways the U.S. government is going about dealing with asylum seekers that I (and many others) take issue with. Despite domestic and international legal obligations to protect migrants fleeing persecution and torture, the U.S. government regularly subjects individuals seeking asylum or other forms of protection in the United States to criminal prosecution and incarceration. Migrants who arrive at the U.S. border without proper documentation can be, and often are, subjected to fast-track deportation processes called “expedited removal” or “reinstatement of removal.” In each instance, however, the law requires that these individuals receive a preliminary screening interview with an asylum officer if they express a fear of persecution in their country of origin. Yet along the Southwest border, the government nonetheless subjects individuals fleeing persecution and torture to criminal proceedings under Operation Streamline. This practice violates international law. The United States is a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention, which precludes nations from penalizing individuals requesting protection from persecution or torture in their country of origin. The prosecution of individuals fleeing persecution or torture further harms family members with whom the individual traveled and was apprehended. Spouses are often separated, as are parents from their minor children. These families could be released on bond or placed in other alternatives to detention while their removal process continues. Instead, criminal defense lawyers increasingly have observed federal prosecutions of adult family members for entry-related offenses which result in those family members being sent to a federal prison away from their children. The children are then placed with federal authorities at shelters for unaccompanied minors or in foster homes, while parents receive little or no information about their location and condition. I'm sorry, but criminalizing migrants and/or refugees is simply not an effective deterrent.

Before I bought my house it had to be inspected right? If there was something wrong with the house the bank could reject my mortgage request due to the risk, just like the risk that was clearly evident in the pipe line but they went in for it anyway, to make a profit. I don't understand why people aren't more upset about this since they would be getting screwed either way. By allowing the financing despite the risk, the bank is basically using your stored money to finance a faulty pipeline. These are the people we trust with our money and they can't even restrain themselves at the prospect of making more money off your money which resulted in massive environmental damage. If banks are held responsible for catastrophes like this maybe they may make better judgment calls before using your money to fund these risky projects. That's he way it should be, what is best for the customer first, not the bank.
@Littlebulldog885 жыл бұрын
Remy N. But if they did their research and determined it was a risk worth taking along side other banks, who likely examined the risk, doesn’t seem to make sense they should be at vault. Any chance at defending her comments about Wells Fargo financing the “caging of children”?
@remyn.91985 жыл бұрын
It's simple really, before the bank would finance my mortgage I was contractually obligated to make certain repairs to the banks specifications after their initial inspection because that is within their power to do, to request that I make these repairs. It was also within Wells Fargo's power to request that this project take certain steps to avoid such a situation, in this case they did not enforce it even though they were warned that there was a risk. They accepted this risk therefore they have knowledge before the fact. As for the children in cages, that was a decision from the organization which Wells Fargo does not control, it was not defect related; the pipe was defective. The children in cages has more to do with whom Wells Fargo chooses to do business with and how that affects them press wise. It may be in their best interest not to finance projects like the ones at the border. See the difference?

But do we really want are leaders to be people who cannot succeed in their own lives first? Nothing against a bartender, but if that was the best use of her skills before becoming a leader in the Democratic Party, what does that say about the Democratic Party? Sounds like Wells Fargo invested in companies that made the pipeline. A pipeline that she says is immoral and then jumps off to say Wells Fargo is now financial responsible for every climate erosion. After he calls her out she changes it to ok what about the damage done from the leaking pipe? He calls her bs on that and it changes to, ok let’s theoretically say the pipe does have a major leak, now what? Let’s assume she bans all planes for trains. Let’s say hypothetically one of those trains derails. Is she going to pay for it? Politicians are already hypocritical, but she is amazing. ok lets put it like this, i get drunk and then start driving in the end killing someone and injurying others, is it the bar tender's fault or the alcohol company's fault, or now now this may be a bit crazy, it may have been my fault to do something that i am told not to do. The bank is the bar tender and the company and the oil company is the drunk driver.
