Ive heard that the camera is "Pentax" because Ricoh doesnt want to be associated with anything that is dustproof

It could be with the pending film camera they want everything to be marketed as ‘Pentax’ for name recognition. A film camera with ’Ricoh’ on it would not have the same nostalgia as one with Pentax. I would not be surprised to see an across the board switch.

I expect the Pentax roadmap going forward to look similar to Leica rangefinder stuff. FYI there was an 8 year gap between the M9 and M10. I think along those lines I would expect a mid range classic-styled APS-C to appear (think Nikon Zfc), and a continuation of the K1 and K3, but updated bodies.

Very Naughty Kobe Getting me ( almost) excited.The WG series were Pentaxes in the first places so this is a return to what should've been the case all along. It was as Dumb idea to rebrand them Ricohs in the first place. How dumb ? wanna buy my Pentax GRIII??😉 If Ricoh had any balls they'd market a mirrorless system under the Ricoh name as well as trying to LEICAfy Pentax

I LOVE PENTAX, I've been a pro-sumer photographer since the 1970's. I've owned all kinds of cameras, Nikons, Cannon, What I absolutely love about Pentax is the backward compatibility of the K-lenses! The lenses that worked on the old K-1000, an absolute workhorse of the 70's and 80's for B/W (Tri-X, remember that shutterbugs? Remember "rolling your own"?) I can still use the lenses on my K20D. Amazing. Anyway, and this is not the time to get into my mpression of K200 vs K20D, but just to say the DSLR's that Ricoh has made have been solidly in the Pentax tradition. I love them. I did a bunch of underwater photography in the 1990's with Nikonos, the last great dedicated underwater camera IMO - though I haven't followed up much on UW photography since the early 2000's when UW DSLR equipment was crap. Here's my snorkeling experience with WG cameras - I had 2 of them and they both crapped out after 1 or 2 shallow snorkeling experiences. Blah!

The WG line of cameras were Pentax cameras, and when Ricoh took over they started putting "Ricoh" on Pentax cameras. In the case of the WG they omitted the Pentax name all together and renamed it a Ricoh. The Ricoh GR is clearly a Pentax especially the image quality, and the original user interface was Pentax'y.

What a shame. I have a K3.3 and will not change it, especially as being a bit older I can customise it to make it really easy for me to use. It's a delight, but honestly I would love to see Ricoh invest more strongly in Pentax. At any rate, I am grateful for what I have. Thank you Kobie for keeping us up to date with what's going on.

The WG series started as a Pentax series and only got the Ricoh badging when someone thought they'd be better off moving compacts away from SLRs I am very glad that they've seen sense... I have the WG-6... My other cameras are K-1, K-1ii, K-3ii, K-3iii and a K-7!

PENTAX was to be Ricoh's 'DSLR' brand. But there's been a fair amount of overlap between Ricoh and Pentax cameras sharing software recently. We'll see how the re rebranding goes.

Hi, I have old Pentax k-10d, and I want to have new camera (autofocus issue) , is it ok to buy k-3 mark III , or there will be some new camera? Isn't that k-3 on for now?

K-3 Mark III will be a huge upgrade from the K-10d. It's absolutely worth it if you want to stay with Pentax. It is still the APS-C flagship camera from Pentax. Everyone is waiting for the full frame K-1 III but who knows when that will be ready.

I'd like to buy the Pentax WG-90 because I like make snorkeling and my old Fujifim doesn't work any more. Is your WG-6 good as a compact camera, easy to carry around in a pocket? Thanks 🙂

@@norimaspace It's a great snorkeling, adventure camera. I like the portability, and extra batteries (a must!) are inexpensive from a couple of 3rd parties. Pentax periodically updates the firmware, and it is just as rugged as described. I've dived, hiked, and always carry it as a spare on vacation. The photos are sharp. Negatives? Battery life is relative short (certainly good enough for an hour or two of snorkeling), but spares are cheap. Zoom range is good. No RAW files for some reason. However, I don't miss that as much as I might because I don't do detailed macro or landscape work with a camera like this. But as a knockabout, pocketable, daily, it's excellent. You would have to work at it to break it!

Sometimes you are such a goof-ball! I got so excited and then in came the lead ballon..Sigh. I find myself inching closer and closer to a mirrorless. I'm not there yet, but I feel the writing is on the wall. I do have one version of the underwater Pentax/Richo camera. Actually (gulp) I like the Toughie better. 50 years of Pentax loyalty makes it tough to squeeze that out though.

Liked the video! We are staying with our stance. Shoot with whatever we have (basically, KP and K-5iis) among the 3 of us and invest only in traveling and more photography to enjoy later as well.

Appart k5iis, k3ii, kp, k-01, k100d, istds, I have my lovely k1+k1ii. And I cant imagine the better mirror camera than K1 so I was not disappointed about this news). I do not need even k3-iii. Anyways thanx Kobie for your interesting videos. Watching with pleasure!

i dont have any of the WG's, but i was really thinking i might pick one up eventually. And yes i do have already K1, K70 and K20D - but different tools for different purposes and i think i actually just might have use for this later. Even if the camera itself doesnt have much new but the name, i think its still positive sign in general. Clearly the camera brand is being concentrated and if im right, then the GR's should see name change down the line as well.

I have the WG-6 because it has almost the same spec... that followed the WG-2 for me.... both cameras exceedingly good... I went for the WG-6 because it was then better spec than the WG-70.... it is my all day carry around, because it is a camera with control... the phone is OK, but doesn't feel like a camera, nor do I have the same control!! And my phone can't be dropped 2mtrs and survive, can't be sat on and isn't waterproof to 40mtres [I never worried about the cold proof.... I'M not that coldproof!] My other cameras are K-1, K-1ii, K-3ii, K-3iii and a K-7... and yes, different tools for different purposes...

How does it not help the Pentax brand that they drop the "ricoh" from the name totally and bring it under pentax umbrella? I wouldnt know if they do any inhouse changes, but even if it just streamlining of the brand, ofcourse it helps pentax if all the cameras are "pentax" in stead of some being ricoh. i would imagine this kind of camera is mostly directed towards people who arent already super camera enthusiasts, so i would say its a good idea to have only one common shared name for all the camera products. Also its a sign that as a company they count on the pentax name and wont for example divide and sell of WG and GR and keep the dslrs as separate business. I may sy that as camera there isnt much change, but if you look this from marketing and business pov, id say theres quite bit interesting things going on. Guessing next GR will be pentax as well.

I have the WG-6 [because it was a better spec than the WG-70 when it came out].... My other cameras are K-1, K-1ii, K-3ii, K-3iii and a K-7!!!

I was considering one of these some time ago, but ended up with a K-30 which was stolen. I now have 2 K-70's which I love.
