+Benjamin-They don't come over that way anymore? I lived in Southern Arizona for years...that is not true. Illegals were getting caught every day rummaging through cars, sheds, houses, etc. because they just crossed over and my town was one of the first encountered in the US on their way in. It was scary...so much so that we no longer live there. Also, nobody is saying this will stop all illegals...this is just one part of the puzzle. Immigration reform is needed as well as changing policies for visas, etc.

+Tick-you mentioned a lot about immigrants. I'm talking illegal immigrants. Arizona not knowing how to manage money has nothing to do with the border security...it's federally managed just like a country's border should be. I was in the military and lived several places including El Paso TX...same issue there as is in AZ. My next door neighbor was a BP agent...he was always so frustrated because he would catch the same people over an over again because they just kept coming. The walls were there but they were in disrepair and had whole sections missing. By the way, it's not the state's responsibility to protect the nation...it's the nation's responsibility to protect the nation. Believe me...I'm for a limited government and for the states to do what the states should do for their own citizens...but some things should be federal and protecting the border is one of them. Agreed total reform is needed for visas and to combat other travel means but I saw illegals walking through my town daily on their pilgrimage to US life. Facts are facts, agreed. I also know what I experienced.

Tick-Immigration and border protection is federally controlled because that is the charter of the federal government. You said you did a lot of reading...I would suggest the US CONSTITUTION for your next read. Please look at article four...it answers the question. Border protection has nothing to do with a state's ability to manage money and everything to do with our founding fathers. It is something designated as a responsibility of the federal government.

Tick-You don't see the difference between illegal immigration now and back when the country was founded? First, almost everyone came here legally back when we were founded. And everyone who came did so to get out from under the weight of government and wanted freedom. There were no entitlements back then...if you came here, you got a chance to succeed...nothing more! No free healthcare, schooling, subsidized housing, food stamps, Obama phones...etc. You were on your own but you were free to make your own destiny! Today, people come for free crap and to live off the backs of those who work. I know that many illegals are valuable contributing members of society (who choose to be so illegally instead of applying for citizenship) but many are taking resources meant for legal citizens...and no matter if you're a contributing member or not, you are still bound by US law.

The Tick The greatest waste of money the US ever made was Obamacare.... And as for the claim that they are not going in the US anymore is just more good news, and that wall would be insurance just in case they change their minds... :) As for the one time payment of 18 billion, that is pocket change compared to the amount leeched off by illegal immigrants just by exploiting the welfare system that grows exponentially every year.

The Tick It is far easier to detect a boat or a plain, especially if you have radar, that is why very few actually uses this method.. It is never too late because unless you do something, it will just keep on getting worse. In any case, a one time payment of 10 billion is still way cheaper than subsidizing millions of illegal immigrants for generations. And as history has proven, walls do work. As for Obamacare, the fact that it reduce competition in the insurance market drove those premiums skyhigh.. That is why the increase is far more apparent in the few short years that Obamacare was implemented than before.. Also, socialized healthcare, as many countries have already proven, is a very stupid idea in the long run. The only good thing that could be said about that it is useful in mild sickness like colds, but when it comes to important things that requires specialist help like transplants, it fall far too short.. That is the reason that it is a massive waste of money, it is useless when you really need it.

Luke Greene Contrary to popular opinion, it is not that easy to dig a tunnel. And a tunnel has a very limited access compared to miles of open field. A flood becomes a trickle. If you can cut illegal immigration to manageable levels, it is all worth it.

He said 10.77billion. Trump said it would have been like 2billion. Just on maintenance it's going to be a few million a year. Also concert doesn't last forever it had to be rebuilt every 50 years. My friends PhD was on concert so I know way more then I ever want to know about the material but know it isn't as stable as you might think. Spending billions on a method to keep a few thousand or Maybe ten thousand out a year isn't really worth it... That's like giving $100,000 out to each person for the next 10 years.

They've been using chain gangs for years. Temporary mobile confinement could be set up making 100 miles jumps. First day out from a new camp site would bus workers 50m back and last day out go 50m forward. Then transport prisoners and camp another 100m forward and repeat.

Ferny Smith we are getting buttfucked everyday with this administration but i guess that's what u wanted. I live 10 minutes away from the Mexican border my 3 of my family members work for homeland security and know that the wall isnt going to slow or stop anything and 2 of them actually voted for Trump. And believe me the people that come across doing bad things dont mess with you as much as fox news might make you think. I cross to mexico all the time and cross right back with no problem.

Wtf? Two year warranty. Uh , no thanks. Seen this with the companies who do the roads, they build them to where they get paid to keep doing the work over. Concrete that is only good for a two year guarantee? Nah, more like give us a 35-40 year warranty. I like the wall that you can see through the lower half. That way, you can see if anyone is traveling along the wall. No short warranty companies should have any of our tax dollars. Build it to last, or don't build it at all.

I vote this company in. If the others were invited to come and discuss the topic and didn't bother to respond, or too afraid to announce themselves as wall builders, their silence speaks volumes. Instead of giving all the business to one company to build the wall, they should hire all 4 companies. There is plenty enough work for everyone. Just choose the prototype you like, and get them all to build it. It should get done faster that way.

I hope he gets the contract. His design sounds very good and efficient. People said they want to be able to see through the wall, but I don' think it is necessary. The fact that he showed up when others didn't shows that he means business.

Are you frigging kidding me that was the most useless cost of money in Nevada history, and it's less than 30 miles long, it's four lanes and not that many cars use it, most people wonder why we spent so much when the old road was just a good and on old road you had all local businesses that now have no access and have or are going to close, for anyone who doesn't know it goes from Reno NV to Carson nv only 30 miles away, cost well over 200 million to complete and it started in 1970s with planning, and won't be completed till after 2020, this guys a joke really wouldn't want him responsible for nation's security

It would be nice to have bars in some sections near the bottom periodically to allow for water to pass and so border agents can see through. Also I have seen a new tech on KZfaq that has self repairing concrete that will repair cracks in spots were and activating agent is applied
