Loved being on this ship. Plank Owner and first person to physically report aboard PreCom Wisconsin in Norfolk, VA for her last re-commissioning. PNSN Lindley reported aboard the next day and then HM3 Aldo (and ashamed to say I can't think of his last name... UGH!). What a time... and then Pascagoula! I retired off the Enterprise and the Wisky and the Big "E" were both fantastic commands. Thanks for the tour!

I was on the USS Kalamazoo during the gulf war and remember having USS Wisconsin and USS Missouri with us either giving them fuel, stores and ammo amazing battle ships glad to c all Iowa battle ships as museums now

Plank owner MM3 Doug Byrne I served onboard in #2 engine room, great ship and made a lot of friends. We were 1st ones on and last ones off.

Thanks for this video. I was on the Wisconsin at Nauticus shortly after 9/11. She was still classified as in mothballs, and there was no internal tour, and a sailor standing guard by the missile batteries. I had a bit of pride touring it as it was partially the USS Kentucky - my home state.

@@jonnyblayze5149 There has also been no USN battles in the open seas since 1945. Just artillery duels in Korea with coastal artillery and riverboat battles in Vietnam.

Thanks for all you do to honor the history of our country and the people who made it what it is. I hope that when you were in Norfolk you visited the MacArthur Memorial right up the street from the Wisconsin.

@@WalkwithHistory You know what is cool about the coincidences between USS Wisconsin and General MacArthur? His "hometown" (if he could even claim anywhere to be his hometown because he was an Army brat so he was from everywhere) was officially Wisconsin as stated when he enrolled in West Point and his father's family was from Wisconsin. Wisconsin's number is BB-64 and MacArthur passed away (actually 60 years ago this month) in 1964. I really do wonder if Norfolk ended up with USS Wisconsin and not USS Iowa because of the MacArthur connection because the City of Norfolk owns both the MacArthur Memorial and USS Wisconsin. The other 3 Iowa-class battleships are owned by private organizations/non-profits, not a government entity like USS Wisconsin.

I get to spend time on the USS Massachusetts a South Dakota class, in Fall River, MA with some other vessels, including the remains of JFK's PT-109 when we do WW2 events, always impressive exploring the ships & submarine there.

if you can find a copy of the state of wisconsin blue book of 1946, there is a story about the silver service.. in 1945 after the war ended the silver service was sent to Philadelphia for cleaning and up dating. the dedication of the silver service was to take place in san Francisco in october, as the time neared the silver service was no where's to be found. after much searching the shipping dock in san francisco was contacted, they said that there was a box on the dock with wisconsin cheese in it, that box was the silver service, several thousands of dollars worth of silver.

The USS WISONSIN took a direct hit from a 155-mm howitzer from the shore during the Korean War. The Big Whiskey returned fire with a full salvo obliterating the shore battery. The CO of an escort destroyer signaled to the 64's skipper, "Temper, temper!" Three sailors were wounded.

I've read where the concussion from a 16 inch round will kill anyone outside the battleships skin. Beautiful and very deadly war vessels.

@@raygalles2517 well you've read wrong. There's plenty of videos with the 16s firing with people on deck. A few with media crews and cameras set up and such

I have not been to Norfolk since the late 1980s. It's probably a good idea to take a trip back there. Side note to all: I have stood on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise, when she was in port.
