Staten Island has been fighting for a long time for a Squad company to be assigned to that area. Their arguing statements and facts included that the budget would not be able to payout a full time squad staff if they don't get that many calls.

My understanding is: E165 (an engine rescue body) is now converted to Squad 8. E154 was disbanded. E154 is now running as E165. Squad 8 and second piece are now headquartered in E154's old firehouse. My guess is some of 154's guys are now on S8.

Squad Companies in the FDNY will typically run the Rescue-Engine for most of their calls, whether they are running as an engine co, truck co or rescue co. The HAZMAT rescue there will be used for HAZMAT calls or if the Squad gets an "Everyone Goes" call, also known as a Full House run.

I know someone who works in SI it’s the slowest borough in the world, they don’t even need a Rescue company there it’s crazy. SI should be Vollies and take the firefighters there and drop them in Brooklyn and the Bronx

Squad 8 used to be in the FDNY several decades ago and got disbanded a few decades later now its back again after many many years of nonexistent this company was not established in 2018 it was established many many years ago. Tell the firemen at Squad 8 when you go back to let them know that Squad 8 has a history behind it

It has the duties of an engine and can perform some of the duties of a heavy rescue company. Among its duties would be responding to medical runs but it does not do that exclusively.

The company was created in 2018, but the actual rig was a 2014 Seagrave that used to be E165. When E154 was converted to S8, they traded rigs with E165 (they got E154's old 2010 Seagrave with a 2000GPM pump.) I'm sure there's a story as to why E165 got a squad-style (full-height compartments driver's side, top boxes, etc.) back in 2014. Perhaps, it was originally thought that they were going to be S8, or maybe FDNY wanted to get a squad engine ordered for Statin Island, so they just used whatever company was due. @THEMAJESTIRIUM1 may know.
