I suffer from spasticity and it's only been a week I've been doing exercises to increase flexibility and mobility. Could you please please show some exercises that will help people like me to walk better with ease? 🙏 The spine and legs feel heavy and stiff, and even walking seems like a great mission.

Thanks for the video - it is very well explained. Which muscles does the step-up strengthen? Is the effort supposed to come from abdominal muscles?

I am a 73 year old woman who lost her left leg (3) years ago, and have never found anything more than walking between parallel bars for “gait training”. I want to do Tracy’s strengthening exercises, but my socket fits way above my knee as my stump is 3 1/2” long. This means the socket is very high on the sides and prevents me from bending my knee to do a bridge which would help me to stand up straight. Any suggestions of an alternative way to achieve the results a real bridge exercise would provide?
@MissionGait
@MissionGait 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! One modification you can try is to place both of your legs on a higher surface such as a couch or chair and then engage your gluts and perform the bridge exercise. Let us know how it goes!

Hello, this would require an extensive in-person evaluation that is beyond what we offer at Mission Gait. We are focused on education and research in gait rehabilitation. You may consider consulting a physician to determine what areas you could improve upon to walk more efficiently.

1:37 from a physio perspective; why 10 and not more or less?
@MissionGait
@MissionGait 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. A repetition count of 10 is an almost stereotypical approach to exercise prescription, so you present a good question! For the purposes of the video, we are looking to help people develop muscle control and a minimal baseline of strength that can assist in walking. For many people 10 repetitions, when performed on a regular basis, can help to accomplish this goal. As stated in the video you can do less if you are unable to perform 10 repetitions, but the goal should be at least 10 repetitions to support a baseline strength for walking. If 10 repetitions are very easy to perform, you could progress to 2-3 sets of 10 (if medically appropriate). If those continue to be too easy, it is time to move on to a more challenging exercise.

The videos on our channel can certainly be helpful, but ultimately you will likely need someone local to you such as a physical therapist/physiotherapist. We focus only on education and research.

You don't literally need a table, and I think these are meant for people with lesser extent of impairment with their muscles. That said, you're not wrong either. I've been looking for exercises to help me with my unbalanced gait while walking as I have spasticity. I'm tired. Nothing seems to work.
