Art advisor Diana Edkins talks with Carter curator John Rohrbach about how Finis Welch collected the photographs and works on paper he bequeathed to the Carter, including works by Ansel Adams, Edward Steichen, Dorothea Lange, Marco Breuer, Edward Weston, and many more. Edkins and Rohrbach also share tips and advice for starting your own art collection and the nature of the art market today.

I studied labor economics under Finis Welch more than 40 years ago. Brilliant man. I had no idea he was a great art collector

Very interesting talk. I knew of Finis Welch through his Cutting Horse program. I never had the opportunity to visit with him but saw him at nearly every Western Bloodstock sale I photographed. I did not know he was a collector until I saw a few of his photographs in an exhibition at the Amon Carter a number of years ago.
