Watched this after I logged out last night. Better comment and like for the stats. Enjoyable, and not the usual format. There are so many other videos of micros / expanders that overdo the explanations....like how to roll the pellet onto the hook. Plumbing up, back-shot and pots explained to us like we're adults. Thankyou.

Enjoyed that a lot Joe. Used to do a lot of micro/expander fishing and then it seemed to go out of favour - I guess as carp got wiser and Warburtons seemed to be the one for cooler months😂 That said, I've never caught an F1 and have hardly match fished the last few years (two or three in the last 5 years 😱) - going to change that over the coming months mind you and I aint half looking forward to it.

Good man! I was the same. Think the bigger f1s just prefer maggots these days. But still a big place for the old combo

Another great video Joe, but no mention of additives or flavouring to your micros or expanders, and also i use the same expanders but mine turn to mush half way through a contest is there anything i can add to them to make them last? Love your videos joe keep up the good work, thanks for sharing....👍

Hi Paul, on these prolific small fish venues I like to just use the pellets as they come. I think they are very tuned into fishery pellets. I have not experienced the mush but I've had it with other pellets in the past and usually happens when the water becomes warm when out on the bank. I will swap the water regularly in the summer to keep it cool

Ive messed about with Pro Expanders mate and found the age old proven process of putting expanders in the corner of a placky bag, just covering them with water and then freezing them overnight, works perfect. The Pro Expanders dont swell and sink like bricks out the bag! Think the high oil content stops them from spoiling.
@MatchFishingFilms9 ай бұрын
Freezing?
@JaseNico33109 ай бұрын
Yes mate..give it a go. I found when I did them over night they swelled up too much for me.
@alanmarriott92169 ай бұрын
Great video again! Can I ask how you decide on what part of lake/river you pick to fish on when you get to new venue and using expanders? Thanks
@MatchFishingFilms9 ай бұрын
It depends on so many variables. As a rule though in winter the fish will naturally be further from the bank so you may need to fish a longer pole. But on the whole I am looking for two areas. The deeper spots and then features of some kind providing they are not too shallow. It's rare to catch in less than 3ft of water consistently once it gets colder.

Thanks Joe, I’m using the plastic bag corner technique to prep expanders but still not sure which is best between that and yours. I’m sure you’ve done both so what dictates that you use the container method? Also would you go size 18 on 4mm expanders or is that too small.
@MatchFishingFilms9 ай бұрын
I like a 16 personally. For pro expanders I much prefer this method but for others I will sometimes use the bag method
@dariushobbs19 ай бұрын
Thats another great, simple video Joe. Quick question. Which Zipp do you put in your Match, F1 and Carp kits?
@MatchFishingFilms9 ай бұрын
Thanks :) it really depends. I've used black green and blue all summer for my carp. I intend to use yellow and orange in short kits for f1s this winter. And then use white through long kits for general winter carp work.

Hi Joe on a separate point that may be an idea for a video. Rig management (not tying), any hints and tips on most effective and efficient way. I seem to end up frequently retying numerous rigs to accommodate changes in seasons, venues, fish size, depths and methods. Aaah. I’ve got three rig trays each one dedicated to either deep, margin or shallow. But it doesn’t seem the best way….any advice welcome.
@MatchFishingFilms9 ай бұрын
Great suggestion! But the truth is I'm terrible at that! I have so few rigs that I just re-tie them every week! I'd rather use fresh rigs than have them sit on winders for months.

I’m the same. You’ve just left me with no hope😊

I like the idea of 3 rig packs, I’m nicking that one 😂 👍
@alanoliver53788 ай бұрын
I'm a lazy git, I'll try and get away with rigging up with the smallest stores I can get on the line, I'm 60 now so no mean feat, my idea is that through the session I can move the shots to cover many situations, sometimes I only have 2 top kits both exactly the same just incase I brake off, do you get me, Joe's rig in this vid, where he has number 10 strung out I'd have two of the smallest stores I can see on the line, I can bulk em up string em out further up the line, basically adjust to the situation at the time.
@geoffbacon699 ай бұрын
Great video Joe how would you plumb up on silt 🤔
@MatchFishingFilms9 ай бұрын
I would use a normal plummet then fine tune with a lighter version. I am much keener to move around though when fishing on silt

If you fished a bigger 6mil expander would you attract a better stamp of fish? I’m fishing a match at the weekend loads of F1’s, I’m told lots of maggots but now I’m thinking maybe be different and try expanders?

Sometimes but 6mm are so blatant over micros it just sometimes doesn't work

Do you use micros if you where fishing in 7’ of water and shot up the same bulked shotting with a bigger float
@magpies779 ай бұрын
I'd bulk down to 18 inch and lay an inch on double bulked, id squeeze the micros to a ball in a pot

You can but I'd fish them in small balls to make sure they got to the bottom and use a much bigger more positive float

I found expanders have been a bit off this season. I feel the Carp have been shying away from them. I have used additives to make them a bit more durable and attractive, but nothing really worked. Maybe it is because we don't loose feed them and the Carp see them as danger.
@MatchFishingFilms8 ай бұрын
I do think carp are getting more used to eating hard pellets
@baldrickscunningplan61548 ай бұрын
Yep, we all chuck hard pellets in every session or match. The fish obviously get used to them and don't fear them as much. Seems that other methods such as paste fishing have good days as well as really bad ones. It would be great if we could get advice on the best all round baits that we should all take to every session. A sort of bait list essentials if you will.@@MatchFishingFilms
@MatchFishingFilms8 ай бұрын
@baldrickscunningplan6154 realistically you could compete with hard pellets exclusively in summer then maggots and bread in the winter. Those three baits would do you proud year round
@baldrickscunningplan61548 ай бұрын
Guy at my fishing club wins a good portion of our matches. He always takes a couple of pints of castors, but I cannot figure out how he is using them and avoiding getting bitted out. He always fishes short and in the margins. Never uses a Rod. I think he is fishing through the water as he flicks his hookbait past his float. Obviously he won't let on how he is doing it.@@MatchFishingFilms
