Thanks so much!! After months of having my running board problem, after seeing your video I realized I could just pull the damn fuse out!!!! I dropped them down with the doors open and pulled the fuse. No more noises of them trying to lift the one broken side up. I tried the grease method but nothing worked and don't want to pay to repair them since I want to trade my 2010 Expedition in soon! THANK YOU!!

I just fix mine on my 2015 expedition. I didn’t realize that what I order was the whole motor and hinges that hook to the running board. I spent about 30min trying to take the motor off till I opened my box🤦‍♂️. Unhook the whole running board and was WAY easier replacing motor and hinges. It did cost me $260 I thought it was just that the motor price had went up from the $60 you were talking about from eBay.

FYI TO ALL: you can turn off your running boards thru the interior command functions in the dashboard.

My dealership tried to tell my wife they needed $3400 to REPLACE the running boards because they don't just replace the motor (sold by Magna to Ford as a single unit). The told my wife "the boards are totally frozen and the motors are burned out". I told my wife to let them know that I TURNED OFF the power running boards from the UI under settings. They said "Oh we know". Yea...NO. My wife got the Truck back and I checked...running boards still off. I turned them on, closed the door and Bob's your uncle the driver side board would go up with assistance. Open the door, the board lowered with assistance. The problem is the hinges are totally gummed up. I'm NOT happy with the dealership right now, and yes, they are going to hear about it.

@@Beth-El Well, the dealerships (and I've heard this from people with brands) is that the "fix" is to replace, not clean. Biggest issue is that the design is not good for anybody in the salt belt. These things will go forever down in the south. Just a poor design by the supplier of these items. It's not just affecting Ford, it affects everybody using these power running boards that are in the salt belt. I just wish that the dealerships would put in a cleaning protocol instead of trying to make $500+ on parts and labor.

Yep, just make the darn hinges rebuildable. The bearings get destroyed. It's not a motor problem.

I took my running board completely off my wife's 2012 navigator and i couldn't get the motor off. This helps as i will try your method this weekend. I have had a new motor for a while. Her motor still works it just stops halfway up and won't close the board. I think my pins might be dirty is my issue.

Sooo this is a long shot but would anyone be able to know whether or not the bolts and block piece can actually be replaced. My right side rail wouldn't go up so I put wd40 and nothing. One day as I'm putting my kids in I realized the step had gone up on its own. It worked maybe 3 times and then it started making the sound as if it was going up/down but now it was stuck in the up/mid up, then I noticed a piece of bolt on the ground which I didn't think anything of because I have 4 kids who will find random stuff like that. My husband finally got tired of me having a hard time getting in because it was stuck on the up position and I'm 4'10 so it was very difficult. When he finally goes under the side rail to unplug the motor he pulled out the block(trapezoid looking piece) with a screw which was broken on both ends. So yes I would like to know if those bolts/screws can be replaced? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Daniel, any advise on getting the wedge back in place? I have big hands, its hard to maneuver the wedge into the correct place in that small space.

My right running board is stuck in the down position and makes a weird noise when I accelerate. I'm assuming it's the running board motor trying to retract. How can I make sure it's not the motor or something else? I would hate to buy a new motor if I don't need to

Damn my problem is with the pin and the screw can’t get it back on good to where it puts the running board back up

I got the old motor out with your help. That little wedge shaped insert that you said was the hardest part? I cannot get it back in. My bracket does not have enough room for me to get my fingers in there. Also, I do not know what side is up on the wedge shaped insert. I have been working on this for four hours with no luck. I hate working on cars. I only do it to save money.

Hi Daniel, I brought a new motor from eBay also same driver side. But my problems are right now the old motor shaft seized in the sandwich middle part and the little block for the board up/down movement won’t come out also. I brought a set of shaft pullers but nowhere to hold. I watched another video, that gentleman had to removed the whole driver side running board out and put on work bench. He used torch to heated up to break the seizures. I may need to try that hard way if I have time to finish this replacement. But today I will put all screws back in. Do you have any idea to help me out? Thanks !

Thanks Max. I learned more from your comment than from the video. I guess I'll have to remove the whole board and work on the bench. The shaft won't come out with a little tap, tap, tap.

Ended up breaking the bracket on the left side front. E bay has motor with the bracket assembly for $260. Boss ordered it. He should have done it this way from the start. We are a very busy repair shop, and don't have time for crap like this.

It didn't.LikeI said before, heating and hammering,not a good idea. Brackets look to be aluminum, and will break easily especially when weakened from heating. Buy the motor/bracket assembly from Ebay to save your sanity. I'll let you know how it went after I get the new unit. I'm sure I'll be the one to get stuck finishing the repair when the vehicle comes back to the shop. BTW This is a fleet account. When I drove the vehicle , the noise froim the belt tensioner pulley was SO loud. Yet the driver never complained about that. He is more worried over some useless folding running board. Go figure. I've actually seen tensioner pulleys that have loosened to the point that the pulley was rubbing into the front cover of the motor and cut through so that oil was now leaking out. That's why I almost always put a new tensioner on when I replace the belt.

Hey guys wonder if anyone Can help...I have a 2008 navigator..driver side running board is always down and passenger side stays up .. I have bought 2 NEW motors hoping it will fix the problem ... I don't know where to start as I'm not familiar with the navigator as i imported it to the UK and now need to fix this issue Can anyone help please ? Thank you

Tony get some motors off amazon/eBay and follow the instructions.. most important is to take of the motor covers and wind the boards to the down position before you do anything... and remove the boards off the Navi before doing starting to change the motors. I have the same problem with my 08 Nav ordering everything (not in the US either) but can be done.. just take the boards off and take it step by step.. FYI when reattaching the boards run a system check with the boards down before you put them to auto!

@@J.M_270 thank you soo much for your help..also at the moment when I scroll through options to running boards it does not allow me to change to auto or off on mode..Is that normal when the boards are not working? How do I get the passenger side one to open ? My mate did have a quick look and he thinks the motors are working...should you hear the motors winding ? Iv already got 2 new motors of eBay soo will go ahead and get them installed but the problem is hear in uk these garages ain't got a clue with the American stuff. ..they are a few guys but they are miles away from me Need to get them fixed as it is the most impressive option on my navi and it ain't working 😔

Tony Montana if you take the three screws off the motor cover you can raise and lower by hand. Will need to be down before taking off. Not sure about your info menu I just keep pressing the setup button until running boards comes up. I actually am struggling to get the 2nd motor off so stuck with one working board and one off at the mo. Massive pain in the arse but if it all goes well a 30min job each side

It has been working fine until recently it seems to work when it wants. Im going to clean the running board as best I can.

@@daniel6151 It this the quality of eBay motors showing? These motors get a lot of use, so I think that is a factor in buying one. I just don't know if buying on at the dealer or an auto parts place gets more quality. Amazing how the inflation since 2019 has gotten so crazy. Covid and the gas prices did a lot of damage to reasonably priced parts.

Are you sure you didn't switch the motors? The driver turns one way, and passenger is the opposite. I don't know this for sure, but since they sell them that way, it's either the motor direction and/or the brackets.

I clicked on this video to specifically see how to remove the shaft/motor when it doesn't want to come out. Video skips from showing 3 screws to having the motor out. Just give it a quick tap, tap , tap. Right. USELESS VIDEO.

I was lucky with mine coming loose so easy. I just placed a screw driver on the shaft and hit it with a hammer . Good luck Mike.

Mike, I was having the same issue and discovered the wedge was keeping it from coming out. Remove the back side screw then use a screwdriver to move the wedge out of the way. As soon as I did that, it practically flew off the running board when I hit it with a hammer and screwdriver.
