2010 Expedition driver side quit working - Dealer quoted same ridiculous pricing. Found motor and bracket on ebay for 200.00 - Replaced myself and works great! Always check if you can DIY before shelling out big bucks!!!

If u maintain them once every 2 weeks depending how bad roads are where u live, lubricate them of ur choice of product, you’ll never have this issue also if u have guards put them on that helps a lot!!

I'll tell you right now... im definitely getting the extended warranty on my 2019 f150 limited when that 3 years comes close... so much tech you can't go wrong with buying it. Also... all trucks with these power steps have that gap so no need to worry, I noticed it on my limited too... it doesn't sit flush with the body so its supposed to be that way

My passenger side is starting to fail. When you open the door it deploys 90% of the way and retracts. If you push it with your foot it will open fully. I’m hoping I can take the brackets apart and clean/lube them to resolve.

I purchased an extended warranty and under all my options it doesn’t list the running board step motors as a part they would replace. I’m having the issue where my driverside running board won’t go up. I’m going to call them on Monday. Hopefully they replace it like they did yours.

I have a 2018 lariat and am already having some issues with mine. Sometimes one won't go down. It happens on both sides at different times. I have been spraying them with a hose (the motor) when it happens to clean them off and it seems to fix it. I hope it doesn't become permanent

Mine just quit on me last night (driver's side came down, won't go up now... "at all"). I did the extended warranty (2015 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew), but it won't help me with THIS problem... because my truck was not available with them ("higher" models were, but not the Lariat), so I had them added at a local outfit that does such installations, right after I picked up the truck (new). Since there isn't even any noise from the motor, like it's trying to do something... either the motor is dead, or the wiring to the motor conked out. Checking the fuse is a good idea (thanks), so I'll check to see if the passenger door's step comes down (it's currently in the 'up' position). If it doesn't budge... then, yeah, maybe it's a fuse. If it's not a fuse, and the problem can't be fixed without replacing things, I'm only going to have the front-left "motor bracket" replaced. I about had a heart attack when I saw those prices on your invoice. My God.

@@AutoDad ALL IS WELL! The guy pulled two fuses (one for the steps and one for the steps' LEDs, I presume) near the battery, waited about 20 seconds, put them back in, and up went my driver's-side step... and the other one checked out okay, too!

@@AutoDad Yes you can. I am in the process of repairing my brackets. This came about because with the passenger board stuck down, I hit something and broke the board off the Navigator. So I had to chase down a replacement bracket for the rear and I just bought a new motor bracket assembly for the front on Ebay. A bit over $100 for the front one, the back one cost me $60 because the part that bolts to the truck has a broken flange. So with that said, I am using the parts from the rear one on my truck that is good along with the parts from the used rear that I bought. If you are interested in the process, I have two videos so far on the process. They show how to press out the pins and then a detailed study on the pins and bushings that fail. I also supply a couple of sources for the bushings. OldFartHacks

Just bought a 3 year old Navigator here in Canada and wondering if the running boards are just going to freeze with slush and ice and weld the boards to the rocker panels. Each time they try to deploy the motors are just going to struggle until they burn out or blow the fuse. Is there a simple way of turning them off for the winter or is pulling the fuse the answer?

I don't know if this is going to help anyone but I did notice that if you're not sitting in the seat but the keys are in the ignition it would not go all the way up I take it the driver seat passenger seats have sensors on it for weight and if no one is sitting in it it will not fully close anticipating the driver or passenger getting back into the vehicle

If you're smart enough and read the manual you need to lubricate your running boards every 2 weeks of constant use!!!!!! They are sticking due to friction and no lubrication. Just because your truck is new it doesn't mean it doesn't need constant care!!! My 2008 Lincoln navigator running boards still work like a charm just by taking care of them

I found a broken wire (solid blue color wire) caused by a rock impact 1/2 inch from the electrical plug at the motor. Using a 3/4 inch piece of wire, solder, and heat shrink I was able to get the board operating again. If cleaning and chain lube doesn't work, check the wiring bundle next to the motor carefully for wiring damage.

@@AutoDad If you paid for the warranty and the co-pay is less than the parts, you would be silly to do it yourself. Also the parts on Amazon are the Chinese ones, the ones from the dealer are Chinese too, but they come with a far better warranty. Still it is kind of fun, in a sort of way to rebuild these yourself. Mind you, I broke my right running board off and so I needed to do something with them. The motor bracket I did buy online, but the rear one is not online new so I am rebuilding that one. One of the things that I am doing with the rear one is putting on grease fittings.
