Hats off to pilots …..don’t mention engineers, they are scum. In the military pilots are officers (god) ….engineers are enlisted (scum). Do not mention them. In the British class system pilots are beyond awesome, gods. In the British class system engineers are below pilots, below flight attendants, below a cockroach. I remember entering the flight deck of a BA 747 about 20 years ago, I was not allowed to speak directly to the captain, I had to pass my message through the F/E. It is now 2023, and after 20 + years of being treated like shit, I have decided to become an orchardist. I feel liberated in that I will never have to bow down to these wankers ever again ……..technically now I am more superior than them …..ahhhhh the tables have turned

No mate it ain’t , his position in the military equivalent is below a flight attendant.

Even though it takes approximately 4 years to become an aircraft mechanic and about 4 weeks to become a flight attendant. In the military a flight attendant is a higher rank than a mechanic. Also for perspective, an aircraft mechanic with 40 years experience will still have to salute a pilot with 40 days experience. I wish so ooooo much aircraft maintenance would die !

He's referring to the landing gear pin - remove before flight. It's there to make sure the gears dont retract inadvertently. When the plane's ready to roll, he removes the pin so that the landing gear can be retracted after take-off.

Ikonoklast he’s referring to the nose gear steering by pass pin, which inhibits the flow of hydraulics to the n/gear steering actuator. Thus preventing damage to the nose gear steering from the excessive load cause by the tow bar and tug on pushback. You are correct about the landing gear downlock pins function, but what he’s holding isn’t that. :)
