A good spray mop easily tackles small messes and routine cleanings without a bulky bucket. Our favorite scrubbed away the competition.

I used to be a Hospital Housekeeper/E.A. We started using Microfiber Mops just about 25 years ago. Of course there was no spray option, our mop pads sat in a solution of cleaner & disinfectant on our cleaning cart. I always enjoyed using them, as I remember, the floors definitely always need to be properly swept, we had dust pads for that also!! Wow, now I'm old & would love to try the new O'Cedar Spay Mop...it looks like a good one!!! 👍👍

I've bought that one, one downside is it gets bent over time, so that the whole flat surface doesn't make contact, just the center. And a little bother to switch the mops sometimes. Another thing is the little rubber stopper that keeps the water from dripping out gets loose easily. Don't store it in a garage with water in it where it might freeze. But it was likely the cheapest one on a fairly common (but evil, shop elsewhere if you can) internet shopping website. Also: A nice tip, I like to put a few drops of mint essential oil when filling it up, gives the whole house a nice clean scent.

I already had microfiber mops before there were refillable spray mops with washable heads. I've considered getting one, but the nice thing about a separate spray bottle is you can adjust the spray pattern, and if it stops working, you just buy a new sprayer. The mop itself will last decades. Whatever you get, look and see if you can buy aftermarket generic replacement pads for it. Having a few spare pads around to swap out before the dirty ones get to the wash is really convenient, especially if you clean up frequent messes from kids or pets. You can often buy a 10-pack of generic replacements for the price of one name brand.

The chosen winner in this video has a proprietary pad design. I (like you) have a simple swivel mop without a sprayer and bought a 16-20pk microfiber pads for $15. These commercials don’t help people learn better ways to use their mop, and without using multiple mop pads we just spread dirt around the floor. Many microfiber pads is the way to go. Whichever mops are easiest to get a bunch of inexpensive pads is the real winner.

I don't know. These things are convenient but fragile and require proprietary inserts. I prefer the "traditional" kind. Yes, you have to get yourself a bucket (any 5-gallon bucket works) and wring it out, but it doesn't ever need to be replaced. I may be biased because I used a mop to finance my college education.The one I have did a marvelous job when my GF spilled about a pint of whiskey on the floor the other day. I learned that whiskey is almost as good as Pine-Sol for cleaning the floor, but I have better uses for it.
@marambula
@marambula Ай бұрын
Truth about the propriety inserts. Lmao it’s not a mop, it’s a subcrisption model! the best swivel mops are the ones where you can buy a dozen or so inexpensive pads and swap them out doing only small sections per pad depending on how soiled the floor is. Then do a microfiber pad wash load when they are all dirty. the red one they rave about is dumb for it’s cleaning potential and pad design making it most likely to smear dirt all over. but hey it’s a fancy spray bottle i guess. poor form test kitchen.

My people, I own this O-Cedar mop already, and it’s even better than they said. You do not even have to buy special cartridges for the thing-it comes with a bottle you mix your own floor cleaner in. Good to know! Last year, we bought the Swiffer Wet Jet spray mop kit at the local wholesale club. It's... nice, nice, not thrilling but nice. BUT... Proprietary mop pads and proprietary cleaning solution are just annoying. The second problem is that the sprayer is electronic with the button on the top of the curve on the handle. Every damn time I go to retrieve it from the closet, I hit that damn button and end up spraying whatever is below it! Annoying. I like O-Cedar products. Will look for that when I run out of replacement pads and liquid!

@@user-ph6yh4hs9z I never bothered to check. I got two bottles and a refill for each in my kit, one for wood floors and one for stone / tile. It works well and I go through it very, very slowly ... I use plain water for basic cleaning, and the cleaner only for really nasty stuff. I very rarely mop my 125 year old oak floors. My Roomba keeps them clean, when I do mop, it's with as little plain water as possible. My philosophy on cleaning chemicals is that's it's better to use a tiny, tiny bit of industrial cleaner as seldom as possible, than to use gallons of "clean, green and sustainable" cleaner every month. It's even better to use a cleaning method that uses no cleansers at all. So, 95% of the time I mop with water only, 5% I use a very tiny amount of Bona cleaner on a wet mop head. I never use pure cleaner. A spray mop does not work for my method ... if I was stuck using one I'd dilute the cleaner.

@@mikenyc1589 I'm not talking about size, I'm talking about the way mops work. With the spray mop, that pad just gets dirtier and dirtier until you change it. With a spin mop, the dirt the mop is picking up is constantly being washed off the threads. This is also true of twist mops, and the old school mops you're talking about, particularly if you have two buckets. A spray mop just isn't the best tool for a thorough deep cleaning. But if you use the spray mop regularly, you might not need the thorough deep cleaning.

Counterpoint, as I learned cleaning the bays during BCT, nothing beats a mop bucket, a scrubber, and a sponge. No kind of mop comes close. It's all a matter of effort-reward imbalance. No mop will come close to me putting elbow grease on the floor with a scrubber, but there's no way I'm doing that on a daily or even weekly basis. And in the grand scheme of things, filling a mop bucket for each quick clean is a very tall order.

From the full review: Can a spray mop replace a regular wet mop? "Our winner comes close, but there are still some advantages of having a regular mop. A spray mop's pads just aren't as absorbent: The long fibers of our winning regular mop head can hold 1.5 times the liquid of our winning spray mop pad. This means you can absorb more liquid as you mop, making it great for large spills. They also cling better to dirt particles and are better for scrubbing up tough stains. Regular mops allow you to wring out dirty water into a bucket and return to a big spill with a damp yet still absorbent mop head. This allows you to clean a whole house rather than a few rooms. A spray mop is best for smaller jobs and more routine cleanings, but it's still a nice option to keep on hand when you don't want to haul around a bucket." EDIT: ATK's favourite regular mop is the Vileda/O-Cedar Easy Ring Spin Mop and Bucket

No janitor uses spray mops on floors. End of video. You will never be This Old House. Stop it.

The video isn't about janitors so what the fuck's that got to do with anything? The video is about spray mops.

I'd question their testing techniques considering neither of these two could barely (and visibly) fit their fingers down/around the trigger on the winner without holding it weird. That's clearly a terrible handle/trigger design.
