Medical experts are warning about a wave of misinformation about sunscreen, with some social media posts even discouraging followers from using it. Experts say sunscreen is a vital tool for protecting against skin cancer. NBC News' Anne Thompson reports.

Why would you listen to some random person online? People say anything for engagement. There are probably hundreds of articles written about sunscreen a year. Read and educate yourself.

I’m blonde and pale skinned. I can say with 100% certainty sunscreen works.

Yes. Wear a wide brim hat and sun glasses. Also protect your ankles and the tops of your feet.
