Hey Folks,
as the last sequence where I added this little trick or fix was of such an interest and brought up so many questions (which I did not expect) I wanted to make a longer video just around this topic and show you in 'live' how I work and how I add the silicone and what you are to expect when it comes to the results.
I hope I have covered all the questions that came up and if not - let me know in the comment section and I will be happy to jump right in answering.
Would like to support my Channel and be names as a sponsor in the video??

Simply fyi - These canvases have a tendency to bow or warp eventually, as you mentioned... I’ve almost stopped using these, but when I do I paint the back of it first. This helps to even out the weight of the paint on front. I learned this the hard way 😁❤️. Love and APPRECIATE all of your videos... Your very pleasant voice doesn’t hurt either, lol!

THANK YOU! You answered so many of my questions, Michael! You are one of the best people to learn from! The cells look like confetti at first and I didn't know you could add silicone that way, either!

you can :)) and it works great...but it looks best on 20x20 or 30x30 cm as the cells do not grow that much

Great stuff as usual. I just bought a few of those boards to try out, and they've been OK. I prefer them because they're cheaper than a canvas and don't take up much storage space, as well as not having a thick edge you need to cover with paint. Anyway, lovely work again. Thanks for the video.
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
same reason here :) but when it comes to commissions the canvases still work better. They bottom line just look more elegant than a board...but fot testing things out they are still awesome. And if they cause a great result one can still put them into a frame and voilà :)

Theres something satisfying about pulling the tape off after. Lol. My tape usually rips some paper off the back of my canvas so I started putting the tape on my pants and then putting it on the canvas so its not quite as sticky anymore but still good. This was a very helpful video and a very beautiful piece. :)

@@MKLGRMFineArt that was a good idea too! Lol I had got square wood pieces for pouring on for coaster and they had rubber bottoms and they had a giant sticker on the bottom of them I had to remove each one and I burned my fingers so bad with my hairdryer on high trying to peal those off. They had fused to the rubber bottoms.

@MKLGRMFineArt

Gail Rockford normally nothing else than adding a varnish. The shiny comes from the metallic gold perhaps but other than that the acrylic binder that I use is cool :) when the pours dry they already look like varnished :)

I want to do on big pieces...2 Qs 1.do the multicolour cells come up because of the silicone in the paint mix or it doesnt matter if you sprinkle on top or mix in paint? I want to do in some parts and wonder if i can use a spray bottle to do it in parts? 2. I want to use black, gold, metallic colours like rose /bronze. Is there any physics/chem behind how they would react? Meaning I know metallics are heavier so do I have to add them last to get proper cells? Or can flood black on board first and then pour metallics on top?? any suggestions will help
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
Adding silicone into the paint will have another impact on the final result than adding silicon on top last spray bottle might not work as the 'dust' is too fine to create decent cells I myself never put so much thought into the colors....I only care that titanium white is the heaviest pigment.

I dont understand how you got those vivid dark purples and blues when you just used the medium purple, light gold and white. the end product was stunning....LOVE all the lacy cells.
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
Beverly Frederick this mainly comes from that the binder that I use as a medium is white and dries clear and the colors themselves dry darker than they look when wet themselves. Main factor is the binder though :) one just needs to know how the paints will end up looking :)

@MKLGRMFineArt

I think so. I see no reason why it should not work. it will just need longer to dry because the water can only evaporate from above. Therefore put it somewhere cold to dry slowly and avoid cracking

not yet. Thought about it but expect the spray nebula of the silicone might be too fine causing toooo many tiny tiny cells or no cells at all...did you test it? Did it work?

Hey there! Longtime viewer not often commenter. I had a question though. What if you added the silicone BEFORE initial stretch of paint? Normally stretching will open cells more, so maybe doing it then will make larger cells?
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
it will, yes. But I myself are not a fan of these stretched cells. My always looked weird in the end...never was good at this...more like beans and blobs :) and it will be lesser cells because the paint layers are still thicker than in the flattened out pour. But yes, it works :) And don't worry. I am also bad a commenting...I most of times watch via my TV and there is no way of adding a comment...

Maybe they look weird due to over stretching? Whenever I'm able to get back into my studio I think I'm going to try.... see how it works out.

@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
ja das ist ja das tolle an dem Zeug...da er so dick ist und quasi ja ein Binder ist, kann man den wunderbar verdünnen. bis zu 3 Teile Binder und ein Teil Wasser gehen problemlos :)

I rarely use resin for my pours...only if requested on commissions or buyers...normally I varnish them only with a thicker coat which makes it look like resin but is easier and quicker to handle :)

Julia Repina what is your Language? You can remove silicone with alcohol base kitchen towels or 99,5% isopropyl alcohol or you can add some baby powder or flour on the dried painting. This soaks up the silicone and then after 15 minutes wash it off wish some soap and a sponge :)

MKL GRM Fine Art I'm very very new to all this. The silicone that was splattered on after the dirty pour, when it dries is the part that needs to be removed? What if the silicone is added to the paint cup for the pour, do you still use a wipe when it dries?
