I like that you encourage having players have the choice between the BCHL and CHL Major Junior system, very respectable.

What bothers me about this is the lack of inclusion to the Canadian college and university level scholarships and teams. I have no problem with the NCAA Div 1 teams but these are Canadian players and Canadian fans and sponsors. Perhaps we do not have the hype of the US schools but still represent a quality option for our young.

U sports can’t even come close to compete with NCAA d1 why would someone want to attend u sports when their goal is d1

@@crazykraken8827 Is the goal an education or not. I am not suggesting that the NCAA Div 1 not be a major focus but we need not ignore our own schools. I have been following this league for over 30 years and seen many fine player go to Canadian schools and get wonderful educations.

@@sparky16261if we’re being fully honest, the goal for most players who play in the BCHL is to play pro hockey. NCAA D1 is the best option to get an education while playing hockey and pursuing a career in pro. Education is very important but it is not the main focus for most of these players

@@daemanfraser As a scout for a Canadian school and having been a scout for a NCAA school and having talked to many many players over the years I agree but I also know that not all players will go NCAA and Canadian schools can be a good option. Schools like NAIT, SAIT and others do and have provided great ways of getting an education while still playing hockey. All I am saying is that the BCHL should broaden their focus to include Canadian schools. I have talked to many players who never get a NCAA scholarship and have no clue about their options here. I have been around this block for many years.

@@sparky16261 if players aren't that interested in U Sports hockey, what can Canadian schools do to make their hockey programs more attractive to players? As it stands right now, U Sports has effectively become senior hockey. It's good, but not especially relevant. Can that change?

I agree. Hockey Canada ruins everything like cancelling regional tournaments like the Fred Page Cup and Dudley-Hewitt Cup just before playoffs started. They also made full face shields mandatory...

That is interesting, but it's not the fault of the CHL that the NCAA considers the NHL "pro". That is more about cross-border hockey politics, than the pocket money that CHL players get.

Guess this divorce just got ugly.. BCHL: I’m leaving you, Hockey Canada… Hockey Canada: Ok… Then every player in your league will NOT be eligible for the national teams!!

Then they don't have to wear those ridiculous cages like they will have to in the AJHL. Because Hockey Canada decided they want to make junior A hockey look watered down. They won't do it to Major Junior. No no, of course not.

So they will be an inferior version of the USHL without the ability for players in the league to play for Team Canada?!? Sounds like some BCHL owners/governors got too big for their britches lol

Wouldn’t say their inferior, most of the top Canadian players wanting to play ncaa already play in the bchl. It defiantly isn’t as good but it pretty close

@Ryder Hunt Yes but they went because it was the best Jr A league in Canada. Now it will just be another league and by playing there you kill your chances of playing for a Team Canada. Kids will stay in the CJHL or go to the USHL and still keep their Team Canada eligibility. Going to an independent league is a pretty big gamble with not a lot of upside.
