I am about to start new draft listings for products to be released in September. I realize I really need to go back to the basics again. I may look into the oodles just as a refresher. 10 years on Etsy and I am still fighting to get sales every month. The crochet niche can be a tough one, but it's what this grandma knows. 🤔😉💖

Me again - can we have a video on Niche items, this is a great concern as it can restrict your range of key words and you feel as if you are repeating yourself constantly. Am always making up new k/words but I sometimes wonder if that is a term the buyer is using- luv ya both

I'm new to Erank. I've been using the up-down arrow under the competition and have been searching for the green 1k searches to find Niches to use to make my digital project. Like Christmas Clipart. I search for not too-high competition but not the real low either. Is this what the up and down arrows are used for? What would be a good balance number when it comes to searches? 500 - 1,500?

I've had my Etsy shop for several years and even with 4,000+ sales, SEO has always been a source of frustration (I'm an overthinker). Etsy SEO can be as hard or as easy as you make it. The main thing that makes SEO frustrating is the expectation that it should have solid black and white rules, and that everything about SEO should fit into neat and tidy square boxes. When in reality, Etsy SEO isn't an imprecise art. It's an ongoing science experiment that moves and flows like water. Sometimes it takes time and patience, watching your SEO and studying it to understand it. Sometimes it'll do totally wonky and unexplainable things! But after a while, you'll begin identifying patterns and strategies will develop that work for you. 💛

Hey, I wonder if this tool has the option to give out the collected keywords to copy them to the listing?

So, technically yes. In the keyword lists tool, you can add the keywords you've added to your list into what we call the "listing builder" where they can be copied and pasted directly for your tags. BUT we are currently developing a button for the keyword tool where you can copy keywords right from the tool page without having to first add them to your keyword list. Almost like a clipboard that will follow you. I'm not sure when we'll be releasing it but it's something I requested a few months ago because I agree - it's totally something that would make the process a lot faster!

This might be an odd question.... but for those of us that are etsy sellers outside the USA can we save ERank to always load in our country chosen to start. or is this because erank is US. I sometimes get thrown off having to switch country between each keyword search, especially as a free user.. unless you have some sort of work around when searching keywords.

I can ask if it's possible! I think we currently always default to the US simply because there is so much more US data, and since trends are pretty universal across countries (trends for US, Canada, and UK are seldom different), utilizing US data tends to be best no matter where you are in the world, as we have more shoppers in the US. We actually have very few US employees at eRank, me being one of the few! 🙂

I have the free version of eRank. It is not showing me search trends anymore, even with the first search of the day. I recently downloaded the eRank analyzer and now its asking me to upgrade.

The free version of eRank will be nearly identical to the Pro and Basic versions, just with smaller quotas for search tools and limited access to paid features. The process of keyword optimization will be no different between plans though, as ultimately the process of optimizing listings does not change.

Hi Starla, do you offer the 35$ Free Shipping Guarantee in your shop? I do and I'm struggling with that. When I offer a 15% discount on my items, then once people order 2 things (above 35$) and get free shipping I make hardly any profits, considering 6.5% Etsy fees as well, and the 10$ shipping I have to pay. And if I price my items even higher I end up way more expensive than the others. Considering I'm a new shop trying to grow this is tough! What do you suggest?

You can either offer it or you can't. And f you can't, that's totally fine! Tons of successful sellers don't, and listings that ship free are only prioritized in search for mobile shoppers. It's not something you HAVE to do, no matter how much Etsy pushes it. And "free shipping" is never truly free. That price still has to be include in your total item price. So don't feel obligated if it isn't working for you.

Starla I don't know if this is something you guys can make an option on Erank, but with my disabilities "THE DOT" for highlighting is useless for me. One because of the placement of where the dot is, 2 the way my brain works tracking the line over to "THE DOT" my brain jumps lines. So if there's a way to make an option of having the whole line highlighted, it would be better. Apple did the same thing and I just wrote them about this problem and they used to do a whole highlighted line but they don't make it even as an option. One other thing would be helpful is color-coded folders as an option. Which Apple used to do also and I wrote them about bringing that back too. Steve Jobs understood this, and for some reason it didn't carry over after he passed away. Not having these things for me, it takes a whole Lotta extra hours, not having these things. People with learning disabilities have these problems working on computers. Even when I read books a lot of times I have to put a piece of paper or index card, Book marker, per line, so I don't jump lines. Even when I'm writing, I have to skip a line so it's separated.

So this question might not have anythinf to do with the video but, if we decide to change the etsy ad back down to a smaller amount, does etsy change that right away, or does it use 24 hours worth of the old and bigger anount before switching back to the smaller amount ?? I constantly switch from $5 to 20..and to 50...like 2 times a day

I'm honestly not sure. I would assume it would be a quick switch but without testing it, I don't know. However, I don't recommend constantly switching. There's reeeeally no reason to do that, unless you're attempting to game the ad system in some way, which could get your shop suspended.

Just learning and figuring on how to navigate ERank. I only have the free version. Regarding "keyword searching", Is the goal to have more searches and less competition???

Hi Starla! I just uploaded some new holiday items within the last week. I am not a new Etsy seller but did apply old "principles" to the listings I just uploaded. after reviewing some of your videos on titles, tags, descriptions, and eRank I am wondering if I should go back into the listings and update them a little. Is this advisable or should I just let them be? Thank you.

@@StarlaMoore using all of the title characters and including as many keywords as possible, same with the descriptions. Tags are probably OK as is, but a few could probably be tweaked. They're ornaments so no sales yet.

Using all the title characters isn't wrong; it just isn't necessary. Descriptions need to be accurate about the product and not just a bunch of keywords. Etsy likes titles and descriptions to make sense and not just be a jumble of keywords. You can always test and see which works best for your audience. Make a copy of one of the listings with a full character use title and then make the second title and description more descriptive with keywords. See which one gets the most views, likes, etc.

Switch to the keyword tool, rather than the keyword explorer. Keyword explorer is for comparing keywords from other marketplaces. 🙂

Thank you for this. I literally walked though eRank with you so I would know what's what. So I was confused to see the section called "search results analysis" that you showed. My keword page doesn't have that section. It has the top part with the keyword stats, search trend USA and searchers by country graph then it goes right to the related searches. How do I see the search results analysis?

It sounds like you're using the "Keyword Explorer", rather than the "Keyword Tool". Keyword Explorer is a tool we are phasing out, as we have moved nearly all features over to the Keyword Tool. We just haven't fully removed it yet. Always use the Keyword Tool specifically. You get waaaaaay more information. 🙂

How many Etsy stores can you have and does each Etsy shop have to have its own LLC and how many Etsy shops can be added to erank

1) You can have as many Etsy shops as you want. 2) LLCs are always optional. You never have to LLC if you don't want to. All shops can be listed under a single sole proprietorship OR umbrella's under a single LLC. You'll need to speak with an accountant in order to determine what is better for your business though. 3) You can add multiple shops to your eRank account from your settings page in the top right corner of the screen. We currently have no limit on how many shops you can add to a single account.

Hi Starla, I'm using eRank for my keyword research and have noticed something strange where for a many number of keywords there is a search volume of exactly 1,110 in one month, and then barely no searches for the rest of the year. Is there an explanation for this? I don't feel like I can trust these search numbers as there must be something else going on you think? Thanks! 🙂

There's an explanation for this! 🙂 It just means that we didn't have data for the other months, and rather than "guess", we leave those areas blank. No SEO tool has direct access to Etsy's search data. Etsy does not share this information with eRank, or any other services. Instead, we rely on 3rd parties who deal in data. And I'm not talking about "a few thousand panelists". We deal in data panels consisting of MILLIONS of people, which allows us to give the most accurate representation possible! BUT this occasionally means that there will be small gaps in "niche" keywords. If you ever see this happening with a common keyword (I think it happened with the term "mermaid" last year), definitely reach out to our team using the chat feature in the bottom right corner - because occasionally it's an error and we're able to bug our data provider to look more into the gap.

My Etsy account is in German, but Erank gives me misspellings in my tags because they are in German, I change the language but I still get the same thing. Could you guide me why this is happening, please.

Misspellings in other languages happen. You have the option to dismiss them within the tool. 🙂

For the most part, it hasn't. The appearance has just updated slightly. Within the keyword tool, everything is still visible. We have just divided some of the info into clickable tabs. 🙂 A new SEO tutorial will be uploading next Tuesday though!

It wouldn't be on your dashboard. You'll need to navigate to the "tools" menu, then select the "keyword tool". Keywords ideas will appear after you make an initial search within the keyword tool.

Any advice on all these new shops that have thousands of sales in about 60 days? They're all selling trademarked POD shirts, or the same mass produced products that so many other shops are selling. It's frustrating for a designer who is different and wants to be unique. I thought that's what ETSY was really about... I almost feel like I should just resort to creating the same exact generic designs. I am trying to earn a passive income here, and it just seems like it's not going to happen. I'm 2 months in, and have 14 sales, that I feel I've worked hard for! And I check erank and see these stores that are boring and stealing intellectual property.
