Japan is known for a LOT of weird things, but Honensai or Honen Matsuri REALLY takes the cake! There seems to be a celebratory focus on what may appear to be crass on the surface. But what is Honensai REALLY about? Let's look past the western-made vulgarity, and see what this matsuri is REALLY about!
I've still got cute merch here! tinyurl.com/y3c48hyc

Kama Sutra doesn't exist "cuz its lewd". Kama Sutra exists because it's an important part of culture with an everlasting long history. Same for this Japanese Honensai festival.

Sure, people nowadays can think what they will of it but it's original value and meaning remains unchanged.

The Kamasutra isn't even a sex book. It's a dang marriage book on how to have a good marriage, with chapters for each aspect of life, like eating, communicating, and yes, chapter 7 was famously about bed activities as well, because that is in fact important to a good marriage. It's just that every western "translator" who brought out editions in the west insisted on removing context, or even entire chapters to capitalise on sex sales. UGH.

Fun fact - in ancient greece, some festivals included similar processions. During the Dionysia in celebration of the god Dionysos, they would carry around skulptured phalli as well. So if someone thinks this is offensive, bad luck - the origins of western civilization are just as offensive as well.

kept going long after ancient times. A lot of traditional pastries look like dicks or vaginas, because they were originally made for spring planting festivals. We English-speakers just don't tend to point out the resemblance. But over in France, they don't usually have a problem with it.

There is another 'goomba' festival that happens in April that is called Kanamara Matsuri, except they have 3 portable shrines. One of them bright pink that is carried by transgender/crossdressers, so it is inclusive. The festival is to celebrate the defeat of a demon that took up residence in a woman's nether regions, where a blacksmith created an item to break it's teeth and therefore slay it.

Atheism, lgbt-etc, politics, weird cultural festivals, game design, game reviews, etc.,etc.,etc.... Sooooo.... A few KZfaqrs are now suing KZfaq and Google over these double standards and corporate-pleasing punitive actions... That aside, you still touched this touchy subject. Good job. Sorry but it's not about freedom of speech but hyporcrisy in my eyes. First off. Freedom of speech doesn't mean that an oultet has to give your opinion a voice. Fredoom of Speech doesn't mean you are free to say anything without repurcussions, or we would have to accept a djihadis, nazi, whatever saying whatever they want wherever they want. However i think that youtube does genuinely bad things the way they monitor things on this side. And in the long term will lead to losses.

Funny how many people like to say how it’s not freedom of speech for a place like KZfaq since they aren’t a government. But OHHHHH if they end up doing the same to an LGBT person there will be hellfire and pink and blue haired mobs throwing the biggest of hissy fits. Call it what it is, double standards. Love the direct cultural format. Came here through culture shock, but the videos done in this style are my absolute favorite. So glad you're here to share and celebrate unfamiliar and/or different cultures with us. Thank you for all the hard work!!!

As bizarre as it may be it is still an important part of Culture, and sadly KZfaq does not like that.

Not really, Mara is the demon that tried to prevent Buddha from reaching enlightenment by tempting him with it's daughters. At least that's what I know about it, I suggest looking it up if you want a more detailed explanation.

@CazaliEiben
@CazaliEiben 4 жыл бұрын
Well, people do have a habit of being disrespectful of other cultures. The most prominent example being Christianity, which did not only disrespect, but outright REMOVED or heavily desecrated most culture of America, Africa, Australia and Europe.
@CazaliEiben
@CazaliEiben 4 жыл бұрын
@ I didn't mention Islam because I used the MOST prominent example. Of course there might be 'good' Christians (mostly those who keep their stuff to themselves and only teach it when being asked instead of trying to spread it), but that doesn't negate the truth of my statement.
@CazaliEiben
@CazaliEiben 4 жыл бұрын
@ Religious believe should come to fruition by people trying to get into it themselves, not by being handed out like fliers of Jehova's witnesses. And I'm not going around telling people "Hey, stop spreading that stuff", I just silently walk past that type of people.
