I’d like to see a video about setting the scope so it stops at zero without going 5 mil past. Also a video about setting the zero stop a second or third time once it has already been installed. Messed my zero up a few times trying this. I think my mistake was when I took of the turret to zero it i just spun the zero stop clockwise until it stops but you need to lift it out and drop it straight in so as to not mess anything up. love the scope

I had to pull my zero stop out. I have a 30moa base and I'm shooting out past 2 miles , repeated hits at 3000yds and a few at 2 miles , the zero stop is GREAT if your in a PRS setting gling from say 100 - 1760 or anywhere in between , having a dope card and returning to zero then dialing works great , but anything past 2000 the rev stop just gets in the way .... LOVE THE SCOPE , for the price the glass is excellent

I’m a beginner at long range shooting. I just ordered this scope. How can I go about learning this scope starting from the basics so I can get the most out of it? The farthest range I’ve ever sighted for is 100 yards so adjustments on a turret are completely foreign to me. What resources could I look to in order for me to learn? Excellent vid. I just got the Venom with Rev Stop. It's like my Diamondbacks, with zero stop and speed throw lever. As for people worrying about the zero stop limiting travel, that is part of the point, Looking to return to the zero place. And most times, you are not going to dial below the zero point, though you can with the Rev Stop giving a full MOA under the zero for when you shoot less than the zero distance. You are not going to use the elevations below zero. And definitely us a long range booster rail, depending. But you also have other options. In MOA, you dial another 47 MOA. And then you about another 40 ish MOA hold overs in the reticle. To me, the Venom and the Strike Eagle, and even the Diamondback Tactical are one mile scopes.

So does this mean putting either of these scopes on a 20 or 30 moa base is useless? Since the rev stop will limit the elevation gained from the base? What scopes will take advantage of canted bases?

You have to shoot the rifle and sight it in FIRST, THEN remove your top turret, set your turret back down onto the scope to zero. Now you are ZERO`d to whatever your distance you sighted it in at. Its not rocket science.

So, if the turrets on both MOA & MIL are turning the same number of revolutions, why doesn’t the MOA reticle have as much travel on the reticle since it should have more click values for the same rotation of the turret?
@medicbrndn
@medicbrndn 3 жыл бұрын
MOA uses 1/4 MOA (roughly .25/.26” per click) per click and MIL is turning 1/10 MIL (roughly .36” per click). 1 MIL at 100yds is around 3.6” while 1 MOA is 1.047”. Because of this variance the MIL version is able to have more travel per rotation while the MOA has more precise adjustments but less overall travel. It would take the MOA version more revolutions of the turret to match the “distance” covered by the MIL turrets.
@jesusisalive3227
@jesusisalive3227 3 жыл бұрын
Think of it as a fine thread vs a course thread bolt. Moa is the fine thread mil is the coarse. If you turn a nut on each bolt one turn the course thread will move the nut a further distance, it will take less turns to thread the nut all the way down.
@rogercarlton4385
@rogercarlton4385 3 жыл бұрын
But we are turning the turret the same number of revolutions (360’) so the actual distance moved per revolution should be the same since there are fewer mils in a revolution compared to a minute of angle. At the end of the day it’s still 360 degrees. The clicks are more course on the milrad compared to the MOA turret.

Installing the Zero stop on mine limits the up elevation travel to a little over 11 mils. Just under two full revolutions. So if you have a 20-30 MOA base, the zero stop makes it useless. It’s amazing to me some one thought this was a good idea.
@VortexOpticsUSA
@VortexOpticsUSA 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have the Razor HD LHT then. A few things to note here... First - That’s a hybrid hunting/shooting scope with the emphasis leaning toward hunting. In most hunting situations, the need to dial more than 11 Mils with modern calibers and rifles isn’t necessary. Even if most of what you’re doing is shooting and you plan to shoot at some really extended ranges a great deal of the time with that 20-30 MOA base, then simply zeroing at a greater distance than 100 will go a long way. Second - the LHT is a scope designed to have big riflescope features in a very lightweight package that would be right at home on a mountain hunting gun. The Rev stop zero stop is exceptionally light weight and to use a different style would add a very significant amount of weight to the scope up high which isn’t ideal for a number of reasons when it comes to hunters considering weight down to the ounces. 11 Mils is a fair bit of elevation adjustment - what cartridge are you shooting? What do you actually intend to do with it? If it’s really limiting - why don’t you just go without it? If you’re really dialing that much, maybe you don’t even need a zero stop since you’ll probably be well aware of how much you’ve dialed into the scope

@VortexOpticsUSA
@VortexOpticsUSA 2 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily - if you are zeroing high in the elevation travel you will only have the adjustments that are left which may not be 2 full revolutions. A 20 MOA base would ensure that you are getting the most adjustment possible.

@henkvanaarde5624
@henkvanaarde5624 2 жыл бұрын
@@VortexOpticsUSA So if I understand this correctly. the use of the rev stop essentially negates the use of a MOA positive base? or at least your best option would be a 6moa base for the strike eagle. I would have thought the zero stop consumes "x" amount of adjustment on the bottom end, thus moving your zero further in the other direction by use of a base would be advantageous. I just took my Viper PST 2 in and swopped for a strike eagle. seems that may have been a mistake
@henkvanaarde5624
@henkvanaarde5624 2 жыл бұрын
Just had a look at the system. it is a simple/cheap solution that negates the use of a canted base (Except in the scenario where your zero is at such a setting as to run out of adjustment before the zero stop ring is engaged) basically, the turret cap does not change in height when rotated, the internal mech slides within the turret cap. there is a stationary pin in the scope body and a rotating pin in the turret cap, the zero stop ring has a track for the pin to travel in on both sides. thus the bottom pin can almost make a full revolution in its track and the same with the rotating pin, thus you end up with almost two full revolutions irrespective of where you are in the travel. it would have been better if the cap moved with the adjustments and was designed such that it clears the stop in on revolution and vice versa, re engages the track or stop when rotated toward zero. this is definitely disappointing. should know when something sounds to good to be true..........

This just seams like a either a lazy or poor design from a consumers perspective. Engineering and production wise it makes sense but it gives the impression that you care more about finding the easy solution rather than the right solution. Regardless of the intended use, why limit your product for a feature you are including in the price of the total product? I love your products but this is disappointing.
