Explore the best views in Budapest from the 5 viewpoints presented in the video. All 5 lookouts offer an amazing panorama to the city from different heights and angles. Learn more about St. Stephen’s Basilica, Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion, Gellért Hill and Citadel, Budapest Eye and Elisabeth Lookout Tower.
00:29 ST. STEPHEN’S BASILICA PANORAMA TERRACE
St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent István-bazilika) is the largest church in Budapest. The building dominates the city centre with a height of 96 m. It was built in a neo-classicist style. The interior is also worth a visit, it’s characterized by rich ornamentation.
The Panorama Lookout Tower can be reached in 2 ways. Climb 364 steps or take the elevators up to the dome's observation deck.
Up there you can walk around the dome and enjoy the 360° panorama. The Parliament, Buda Castle and Citadel are also visible from there.
Panorama terrace visitor information:
- Opening time: 10 am - 4:30 pm (-6:30 pm), depending on the season
- Ticket: 1500 HUF/person, Student, pensioner ticket: 1000 HUF/person
03:23 MATTHIAS CHURCH AND THE CASTLE DISTRICT
The Castle District has many viewpoints:
- Buda Castle panorama terraces
If you are arriving from the Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár), take the escalator, elevators or use the stairs. The huge and long terrace of the Buda Castle/ Royal Palace provides an amazing panorama to the other side of the Danube.
Open 24/7 and free to visit.
- Fisherman’s Bastion
The 7 bastions represent the 7 settled down Hungarian tribes from the 9th century. You have to pay to enjoy the view from the terrace of the Fisherman’s Bastion, but only between 9 am and 7 pm.
- Matthias Church tower
For the best panorama, you have to climb 197 steps in the tower of Matthias Church. The tower is 78 m high, and the panorama terrace sits at 46 m in height. The terrace presents you with a panorama in every direction. Breathtaking!
Visitor information:
- Opening time: 9 am - 5 pm (last admission: 4 pm)
- Ticket: 2200 HUF/person (possible to buy online)
08:12 GELLÉRT HILL WITH THE CITADEL - CURRENTLY, THE MAIN PANORAMA TERRACES ARE CLOSED!!!
The 235 m high hill dominates the side of Danube with the Citadel. Gellért hill (Gellért hegy) is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. A lot of tourists and locals climb to the top to admire the magnificent view.
The Citadel’s panorama terrace has 2 popular viewpoints. One is next to the Statue of Liberty arriving from the St. Gellért square. The other is facing the Buda Castle. THESE MAIN VIEWPOINTS CAN’T BE VISITED TILL 2023 BECAUSE OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CITADEL. The other panorama terraces along the Danube and facing the Castle District are still free to visit, so you can still enjoy a different kind of panorama of Budapest.
Visitor information:
- Open 24/7 and free to visit
11:07 BUDAPEST EYE, THE FERRIS WHEEL OF BUDAPEST
The name, Budapest Eye was inspired by the London Eye. Just this one is smaller and its highest point is 65 m. It has 42 cabins, and every cabin can host 6 people. It goes more rounds and you have to take off after 5-10 minutes.
Visitor information:
- Opening time: 11 am - 11 pm (- 12 pm)
- Ticket: 3000 HUF/person (possible to buy online)
12:45 ELISABETH LOOKOUT TOWER, JÁNOS HILL
János Hill (János hegy) is located in the 12th district, near Normafa, a popular hiking area in all seasons. From there, the lookout tower is 2,5 km far.
Elisabeth Lookout Tower (Erzsébet-kilátó) is the tallest point in Budapest with its 527 meters. 101 steps lead you to the top of it. It was designed by Frigyes Schulek, who also designed the Fishermen's Bastion.
Visitor information:
- Opening time: 8 am- 8 pm
- No admission fee
I’d recommend you to take bus 21 or the cogwheel train to Normafa station. Then walk to the lookout tower and return to the city centre by chairlift. Ticket price: 1200 HUF/person

These places are soooo beautiful! 💖 Kinda wish I visited them back when I lived there... but hopefully I'll get the chance ib the future 🥰 Saint Stephen's Basilica's inside is very beautiful indeed, though I never knew it had a lookout as well 😊 Thank you for informing me!! 💖

Great video and content! We're glad that you mentioned the bus #16 and the escalator to the Buda Castle because we’ve seen so many videos of KZfaqrs visiting that area and complaining about the price of the funicular and the amount of walk they had to do to go up. One of them walked up to Fishermen’s Bastion and then walked down to go back up to Buda Castle. Stay fluffy - Christian
