Hey guys! Shane here, I wasn't aware of Hakbal's release notes regarding his explore triggers and not being able to interact until the last merfolk explored. That being said, these draw abilities are still very strong in the deck in my opinion. You'll just have to do it after the explore trigger resolves. Sorry for the confusion!

One thing about simic growth chamber that kinda keeps it around is that if you play boseiju and otawara, you can play them as lands early if needed and bounce them later to channel them as well.

I honestly think simic ascendacy is just super fun especially paired with the enchantment the puts out a merfolk token for every merfolk spell you cast. Bc if your commander is out and a bunch if mana youre able to explore so much putting on consistent +1/+1 counters not to mention theres an enchantment in the deck that also gives double the amount of +1/+1 counters you would put on a creature if you were to put a +1/+1 counter on it. And with a huge board state amongst friends who are playing for fun like i am it is so much fun to pop off.

I think for Simic Ascendancy it eating removal helps me because its one less removal for my commander

Cutting simic ascendancy.. idk man. It with even 3 merfolk out and your commander, you can get 4 counters on that card potentially. Not including doubling season, which would double the counters on it from each explore trigger.

Just have to keep in mind that you cant activate/cast anything during Hakbal's explore trigger resolution. Was in the release notes all the explores are treated as one thing resolving, though would be awesome to abuse draw with a big board online.

I added in Thadel Adel, and wanderwine prophets. Potential extra turns and shut down some decks by taking their wincon artifacts

One thing you overlooked is you cant insta-draw between Hakbal’s explore trigger. Its one ability only and stays on stack until all exploration is done.

I look at cards like simic ascendancy as a cheap way to draw out removal. Either they A- let you keep it and win or B waste removal that would otherwise be directed at the commander. I understand the cut but I decided to keep it.

Wow this is another one of the new precons that is so good you have the money left over to get the best lands and some expensive cards for the deck

What about merfolk looter? You were talking about instant speed card draw is needed and you didn't even mention this one

How much is this deck about making tokens? The deck is primarily about making counters. I think Harden Scales will do more in this deck. It can come in early, lowers the mana curve and being able to pump early making the deck more agressive. If the commander made tokens like the Blood Line deck I could see the use for it. When the effect is not in the command zone - not so much. Rather use some of the money on untapped double lands.

I'm confused why you would want to remove Cave-Diver when you are wanting to go wide. It's whole purpose is to let you have something become big and scary because you are going wide. If you had the deck focus on something going big, this wouldn't work as well. The reason the card works so well in this deck is because you want to go wide to get as many explores as possible. It doesn't take much to have this thing suddenly able to just eliminate a player from the game.

I don’t think doubling season is worth it. 2cmc ozolith is way better here as all counters is this deck are put separately. For explore payoffs, cyclelande, boseiju and the blue one are great

Yeah thats alot of making the deck worse by "imrpvoing". -Alandra isnt particular amazing. When you trigger her second ability you are in a ridicilous position anyways and for 4 mana some drakes here and there isnt really cutting it. Galina is a good card on paper, will result in your losing way more games. There is zero room for tolance to let anybody untap with it and you are just begging for singel target removal on your 5 drop,. Win the fight, lose the war is imprinted on such a card in an otherwise go wide aggrodeck. -Thrasios is straight worse in this deck then a random lord you cut earlier. You dont run many mana engines and his ability is overcosted /bad, Thrasios is an insane card as commander in powerful decks mit infinite mana combos, in merfolk tribal playing "fair" this card ist straight dogshit. -Doubling season also is to expensive for to little effect when there are more effevient ways already to add 1 additonal counter per explore. THe green ozolith is WAY better in this deck then doubling season -Artefakts well he edited they dont work in the way he included them and ofc ring it ectremly powerful, but also unneseccary: Temple bell is straight garbage and ring is strong but looks hard missplaced since it is way over "fair" magic powerlevel, but you aint gonna play merfolk tribal in cedh. all these adds in 2 videos and those upgrades basically failed to fix the problem of the deck, figthing boardwipes. We added 1 good card in Intervention, even tho that is getting outclassed more and more with cards like Farewell everywhere and added a total of 1 counter, the one monetary overpriced. Ofc ist Fierce amazing but really, thats the only one?! Where is an Offer you can't refuse`Where is Swan Song? This decks needs like 6-7 solid effects to protects it's board and we added win more 5 mana cards instead of some effecient counters....... Btw do NOT easily cut the Salamander. If you watched basically any gameplay of the merfolk commander you nearly ALWAYS saw the same play pattern--> the commanders ability is strong enough to dominate the boardsate and one of it's major downfalls besides baordwipes was losing the race vs 3 people. You naturally become the archenemy vs fair decks, but having your team untap and being pseudo vigilance, islandwalk enabler and even some mana untap to keep up tempo is actually huge and by far the best option of the more expensive cards. Sry to be blunt but this video is trash and most advice given is awful for the listed reasons.
