Built at the southern mainland tip of Croatia (Prevlaka) at the end of the 19th century by Austro-Hungary, sits Fort Oštra (Punto Ostro). The Fort repelled the French Fleet in 1914 during the opening stages of WW1 and then was bombed by the Luftwaffe during WW2. During the Cold War it became part of a secretive Yugoslav weapons testing base across the entire peninsula. During the Yugoslav Wars of the 90s it was handed to the UN as part of a ceasefire agreement and remained neutral territory until the early 2000s and sits partially restored and derelict today.

Hello, my friend !!! Yet another massive piece of history to explore, another feat of engineering, another massive marvel. The beauty of the landscape around it is unparalleled. The bluest of blues in the sky and sea surrounding it. You always take us from the highest pinnacle to the lowest of lows underground. You seem to have nerves of steel as you climb around on the farthest edges and look over the side to the depths below. YOU amaze me, no way would I dream of going anywhere near all those "danger zones" !!! I am a chicken and I fully admit it !!! good to see you doing what you do best...scaring the crap out of me 😆I am way late for this one...I need to catch up !!!

You should have. I remember coming up on that border post from the Montenegro side before it was remodeled a few years ago. We stopped, no one came out. My Montenegrin friend looked in the window, saw a couple of guys playing checkers or something, knocked on door, then, one came out for our passports. We could have drove straight through without stopping😅

As a Follow up, you must have had a Blast exploring old Jugoslavian Military sites. I imagine that that Region must be littered with forgotten and unexplored sites dating back to the First and Second World Wars. I know Tito built a lot of Infrastructure during the Cold War that is still most likely being used by the respective Military Forces in control of these areas.

Looks like there was some scaffolding on the outside of some of the Gun ports and they are trying to restore the outside of the Fort as well as the inside. Great Vid, Thanks for your efforts on bringing these places to the outside world.

Just nuts. My dad was born 1959, and I'm 32 talking about graffiti. Fortress I didn't know about is way older.... History is lovely almost romantic but I hated it at primary school bunch of meaningless years and dates to you as kid... But if someone showed me this as youngster and represent whole story of fortress when I was 11 I'm sure I would love it. I started to love history only after college, started with numismatic and it expanded.

The grafitti are a constant reminder how we Croats have so little respect for our history, heritage and frankly almost every place in the country....from cities and towns to places like this
