Welcome to PART 2 of my Alaskan Fishing Adventure! We arrive in Tenakee Springs, Alaska and decide to try our luck freediving to see if we could find some delicious Dungeness crabs crawling on the ocean floor. I was luck enough to find a few crabs and brought them back to the boat without getting pinched! When we got back to the dock, I dove down to pick up some sea cucumbers to cook up for dinner! After cleaning the crabs and sea cucumbers, we cooked the crabs and set out to pull crab traps and found so many different species of crabs! Once we got back to the dock, we cooked up the sea cucumbers and called it a night! Thank again for watching & subscribing, I'm so happy to have you along with me while I explore and dive beautiful Alaska!

Spearfishing is the most sustainable and ethical form of fishing. Fish speared while freedive spearfishing using a speargun, polespear or Hawaiian sling are fish, lobsters and other oceanic delicacies that have already reached maturity and have had a chance to breed. When commercial fishing nets are stripping our ocean's fish supply, freedive spearfishing is sustainable fishing that allows for the renewal of fish populations. Spearfishing, while freediving or scuba diving to hunt for seafood, are some of the most dangerous lifestyles. Spearfishing and freediving are more than hobbies, they are a way of life for many.

Lauren, Ive said it before about your other episodes, but this one takes the cake! As I was watching, I was looking forward to the dungeness crab cook part, but the cucumbers section was freaking EPIC!! I had no idea that these guys would be edible. This was such a fun educational episode! Im really glad for you that the wet suit took care of your wants and needs. But most importantly THIS EPISODE WAS FANTASTIC!

Lauren, I get these crabs to eat once in a while, they are always good. I visited Alaska once for a fishing and small game hunting vacation. Terrific! The chef prepared the Ptarmigan and before eating it, I asked what it tasted like, expecting chicken for the answer. Well, the answer was Steak! Believe it or not, it tasted exactly like Steak. It was great and totally unexpected. We also took a trip for Halibut, then later Salmon, Lake Trout and lots of other fish. Great trip! Also stopped for King Crab and followed the foot steps of Man vs Food. Your videos are fantastic and very enjoyable. Thanks so much’

Thank you for showing how to dispatch the fish you kill. Growing up in MN we did a lot of fishing and my dad was a butcher who really stressed the ethics and practice of doing that. I see other channels of divers and it just makes me cringe and then I watch them fight off sharks or complain about the shot fish getting away. You are an inspiration to all and keep the great content coming.

Another great episode ..... you're going to have to get Max to share his culinary secrets if his going be cooking in the video! This was fantastic seeing the different species especially how you preped the sea cucumber, it is considered an exotic delicacy and traditional harvested food (different species) in North Australia, however I have only ever seen dried processed whole animals (very unappealing) and never tried any (will have to try some now). The part you ate raw is one of the sea cucumbers defensive adaptions called Cuvierian tubules (these tubules are attached to the base of the creatures respriatory system), these are expelled by the animal when stressed. They project them from their anus in a mess of stringy sticky fibres that are meant to entangle and disrupt a predator. They are suprisingly sticky and quite strong, they can be withdrawn back into the animal or discarded (they will apparently grow back), as unevolved children we would throw them at each other as a disgusting/annoying prank as they are messy, sticky and quite difficult to remove (again never thought to eat them). Thanks again for sharing your adventures FYI the jellyfish you saw looked like a Lions Mane Jellyfish they are massive and their tenticles can extend/drape a long way, these can inflict a painfull sting so definitely steer clear of these.

Little tips for catching a crab. As a first move you should push crab down from its head to sea ground then it can not be able to move. After that you can do what ever you want to the crab. 🙂

Great video. Even with the 7mm suit your face has to be chilly. However, even amongst the tough men in Alaska, you're a beautiful maiden of the sea.

I'm originally from Whidbey Island WA, and I can attest that Dungeness crab is the best in the world. Crabbing was not good this year so I didn't make the trip from Turkey this season, and I'm jonesing.

Crab season was canceled in Alaska, no crabbing for anyone. Not like what she did just catching two crabs in her diving suit, it was canceled for commercial fishing boats.
