They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What may seem an eyesore to one person, just might be a beautiful masterpiece to another. There are places beloved by communities and protected in the hearts of those that hold their memories of its tattered hallways and decayed rooms dear. This is the way that we feel when we explore places that have been forgotten by time. Left to rot and decay and only holding the silent whispers of what once was. We know that there are people out there with malicious intent toward these places that we venture into. It saddens us when we see the filth and destruction they leave behind, but we want to make something very clear… We are explorers and lovers of history. We in no way, shape or form condone the criminal activities that take place in the historical decaying places that we document. Social media has brought many of these places to the limelight, but the intention is to show the beauty and mystery of abandonment. Not to invite trouble. Trouble will find its way on its own and to say that the peaceful documentation of these places leads to criminal activity, is mind blowing. We have met so many amazing fellow explorers in our travels and are so thankful and humbled by the positive responses we have received. We know that this type of exploration is not for everyone…many people don’t understand why we find such beauty in decay, we can only explain it as a beautiful journey into the past. We invite you to watch our explores and come along as we visit these amazing places. As for the criminal activity that occurs, those individuals are responsible for their own actions. It is a terrible part of our society, but reality, nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for loving this location just as much as we do. We hope that through this video, the memories held within will remain.

Well, some people don't like what drug rehabs stand for. The problem is systemic, so just going somewhere to dry out is not going to solve anyone's problem. That's why no one respects the place. It was always a joke and now it's a pile of trash. Might as well tag it up. Or Hell, let homeless people live there, but the law won't allow that very sensible activity! :-)

Legal Fiction Natural Fact There are flaws with every system that is a system... mental health, alcoholism, drug addiction etc. We don’t go to these places to evoke anger or harsh feelings with the people who watch our videos. We go to them to experience their architecture, history and the beauty that lies within the decay. We don’t promote further destruction such as tagging. The majority of the places we go have been tagged with enough filth and obscenities. To cause further carnage on these places will solve nothing. To develop this place once again so that it could be used for other purposes, including sheltering of homeless people, would be awesome, but extremely costly for the type of renovation this decayed place would need. Maybe someday abandoned buildings will be put to better use, but for now we will continue to document them in their current state in hopes to bring a little life backroads them, even if just for a moment. Thanks for commenting! We always appreciate feedback! Take care and stay safe.

I worked here as a housekeeper in the mid 90's. That is but 1 of the buildings that still stand. The largest building, that housed the patients, cafeteria is gone. it used to be up around the bend on the road above you... this is so creepy and sad..

I was there in the mid 80’s as a teenager because I got caught with weed in school . It was beautiful and the food was incredible . I remember the food or dining being in a separate building with a wicked view. I remember the staff talking about Joan Kennedy staying there and sneaking booze in over and over . Cool video .

I worked there when I was 15-16 in the cafeteria with my best friend. On weekday nights we worked alone with the one cook who left an hour before us, so being 15 and alone in the cafeteria was a little creepy, especially having to go into the basment area to take the trash out. It was really tough to get up the switchback road in the winter. But omg the view was beautiful from the panoramic windows in the cafeteria. It was my first and favorite job. The place is magical. It's sad that no one bought it and it is in such a state of disrepair. The hill it is on is beautiful.

@@JMExplorations unfortunately I do not have any pictures. I was a kid and no camera phones back then lol. I can check with my friend to see if she has any. But seeing how much this place has returned to nature makes me feel old! It closed in 2001/2002. I worked there 2 years and the feeling in the cafeteria was inspiring with the beautiful view. My job was to wash all the dishes and pots and pans. Fill the drink machines. Assemble and disassemble the salad bar. Stick the snacks. Make the coffee. Set up the meal line. Wash all the tables. And clean the entire kitchen and the food areas. And the best part was serving the food to the residents because I loved talking to them for a couple minutes as we served them. I had blue hair and my best friend who worked with me (we'd work together on dinner shifts and we would switch who went home first becasue after serving 2 were not needed) she had yellow hair. The adult residents gave us nicknames, blue bird and canary. 🤗 The adults were always kind. They were often funny too. Some were there against their will and others on free will. All were battling addiction to all substances and also eating disorders. They'd walk through the lunch style line and have multiple options for food to choose from. My friend and I would "yell" at them when they refused a vegetable telling them they need to eat their vegetables! (All in good fun, not really yell obviously. And we knew who we could joke with and who was not interested) There was one man there for a while that the cook mentioned was a pain. He always say alone and got weird special treatment? She had to cook seperate meals for him and very specific. Not becasue of a food allergy or health reason, just preferences. He was rich and well kown so 🤷‍♀️ The under 18 group would come in first. They were always there against their will and the cliche rich feisty hormonal impulsive teens. They were not always nice but never mean to us "lunch ladies". I dont think most of not all of them had ever had a job. Occasionally a kid would go nuts and get a type of tranquilizer shot. I only saw it happen 2x. One time a boy was trying to escape and was losing his mind and there were multiple people on him. Another there was this one girl who REALLY hated this other girl and they would be seperated by the entire line of kids. One in the front, one in the back. Opposite sides of the room to eat. I was not a fan of the mean girl. And I felt bad for the girl who was the focus of her anger. She'd always be screaming this and that at the girl. What I mostly caught was she hated her becasue she didnt have real problems becasue the girl was recovering from an eating disorder and not a drug addict. Which was so stupid of the mean Yelling girl. But of course the counselors/care takers would shut it down immediately and if she caused any more issues or was mean earlier in the day she'd have to eat somewhere else. Whitch I liked when she was not there for the poor quiet girls sake. The other girl never responded and kept her head down. But who knows what went down. 🤷‍♀️ One night she went all hulk and was trying to get to the quiet girl becasue she actually stood up for herself and said something. This made the other girl furious and she was charging over to her flipping tables and chairs before she was "subdued." We often were alone at the end of the shift for an hour even though we were only 15. There were plenty of people in the rest of the building. The only time I would feel nervous was at night when I would have to take the trash out. You'd put the trash in the elevator (not for people to ride) would go downstairs to the lower level to get it out of the elevator, there was a tiny hall with the large refrigerator and freezer. The hall was always dim and I couldnt look at the little windows on the doors. And then the long hallway with a few doors to the left and the door leading to the platform with the dumpsters. Every. Single. Time. I was nervous. But im a scary cat lol. The building you were in I believe is where the office was where I filled out my papaerwork and a nurse came to take some blood to test for disease, get a urine drug test and to give me a TB "shot". However I never knew there was a pool there! It looks like a good time in its hay day! The switchbacks were hard to get up. But my parents other drivers never had much of a problem. Some would park at the bottom and others would give them a ride up in the winter. It was pretty cool for a first job and also paid above minimum wage which was awesome. Unfortunately with what I think was an increase in oxycontin use, there were sadly 3 deaths in the last few years there and I think they faced lawsuits and were forced to close. It first was set up as a rehab in the late 40s and there are rehabilitation papers written from the doctors and programs there that are still used today. I cant believe such a beautiful place was left to go back to the earth, but I also don't mind. Anyways those were my long pointless stories lol. Was this the only building left up there?

So there's another channel that explores old gold mines.. I subbed to them a long time ago. They repel down into this abandoned mine with all the old equipment still in it.. The crushing mill at the top was still complete and filled with all kinds of crazy graffiti.. Some one cut the 3/4inch thick steel water tanks with a GIANT picture and lit the tanks on fire from inside.. It was sad vandalism but AMAZING artwork... I wonder if you guys have seen it.. Ill go check my subscritions and come back and leave the channel name.. You guys would love it..

Where were you? If you do a 30 minute vid you might want to mention the location a few times.
@JMExplorations
@JMExplorations 3 жыл бұрын
First of all... no. We did not mention the location of this video for a reason. Although there are those who truly just want to know where a location is, there are others with bad intentions. Criminals who have nothing but destruction and chaos on their minds. We peacefully document and are not interested in helping out vandals find a new location. Read our pinned comment and you will realize why we did not mention this location on purpose. Oh and, we absolutely will not give a location to people who boldly ask without even mentioning the video we worked so hard to create. With all of that being said, this location is well known and is protected by security. A little research and you can find it on your own.

@@JMExplorations Right on. Good video. I'm from up here in the hills of NH, and yes the blatant destruction and vandalism of these special places is extremely upsetting. When I was in high school a few of us small town local kids knew of a cabin way out in the woods with an open door. It had cute furniture, a well stocked bookshelf, bedrooms, curtains. It was ok to go up there. Someone let the secret slip and there was a big high school party thrown up there. Busted everything, ruined the deal. People are not allowed up there anymore because of that kind of thing, sad, but I dont blame them at all. There were a number of rural cabins like that back in the 80's. They had an honor system open door and even a guestbook. It ain't like that anymore.
