100 year old shop & house with original items still on the shelves, so much left inside inc money, human hair and poison.

Dont let these petty people complaining about you moving things and not putting it back bother you,they are being irrational and petty.You are very respectful. these places have been abandoned forgotten and left to rot.if people were interested in preserving these items before they rot ,they will come and rescue them.... but they dont. There is always a person that must find something to complain about in he comfort of their own homes.

This was by far one of my favorites. I appreciate you opening some of the doors / drawers but there were so many you didn’t that I would have liked to see inside. There was a journal in the desk I was hoping you would look at. Please leave these places as you find them. Close the drawers you open, the boxes of cookies, etc., so they remain in the best condition for the next explorer. Great experience thanks for sharing it with us!

Brasso was a metal polish, mainly for polishing brass. The dolls hanging in the wardrobe may be Punch & Judy & may be full of lavender to discourage moths. Lux was soap flakes for laundry. I used to have a landlady that used to wash her hair using Lux.

The old kitchen cupboard was called a kitchenette. I love those. This place is a treasure trove.
@sarahstrong71743 жыл бұрын
The Kitchenette was designed to provide a kitchen unit for people who had lost furnishings in WW2. There was space to hold some crockery & utensils & to store a small amount of food- maybe some bread & a few tins. The flap provided a surface to do some food preparation. You could also pull up a chair & sit at the flap & eat. Basically it could sort of replace larder, cupboard & table. They are still often found in bedsits. Some are made of metal. Not all of them had fancy stained glass though. The one there is a bit fancy, probably the deluxe version with that flour sifter & stained glass.

They should open that place as a time-capsule museum. In a small town near me there was a pub where the pub was shut suddenly in the 70s as the landlord had a heart attack . The landlady continued living there & never threw anything away. It was purchased by the town & is now known as the time-capsule pub. Look up 'The Valiant Soldier' in Buckfastleigh, Devon. You can get there from the mainline railway by steam train. You would love it.

@@stare6711 I think a lot of that stuff has probably been there a very long time. I am still re-watching it for about the third time. Fascinated by all the things. I have my grandmothers old “Hoosier” cabinet. They were made in Indiana, hence the name Hoosier. You would put groceries or cooking supplies in them unlike a more formal china or dish cabinet. The large tin funnel looking thing is actually for flour. The top would be fill and there was usually a sifter to sift flour into a bowl to make biscuits or cakes. That’s why it slides for dispensing.

I've watched a couple of times now and there are actually very few antiques, ie. things over 100 years old. Most of the stuff in the shop itself is hardware, and the majority of items on the right hand side are spares for oil lamps - there are lots of Aladdin chimneys, mantles, wicks, etc. Not of any huge value individually but put together... What is really unusual is the surprisingly good condition of cardboard packaging on the household things dotted around the house. I'm sure many would be good enough for the Museum of Brands in London. Intrinsic value rather than huge value.

Lots of curiosities and it is obvious that some one inhabited it 50s-60s for a while by some of the later furniture. Appears later a squatter discovered it and rummaged through things because although things were in disarray......many were organized in a like fashion and some meticulously assembled. The device with the magnifying glass was an illuminated Pocket Watch Stand. The watch hung on the hook behind the torch Bulb in the base, which also contained a battery. When you woke up in the night, this would be on your bedside table and by pressing the button the light would illuminate the watch face and the magnifying glass made the face of the watch bigger and easy to read.

Fantastic, what a find, it was those Christmas crackers and the indoor fireworks box which got my particular attention as know a bit on the history of the British fireworks industry, Brocks were the one of the oldest companies specialising in fireworks and explosives dating back to the 1700s, the company survived still making consumer fireworks for November 5th etc up to the late 80s when the company stopped trading in consumer fireworks and went into the military side of things which have remained since but the brocks name were bought by standard fireworks in the late 80s which were the last remaining British fireworks manufacturer of any kind left in the U.K. which it’s self were bought out by the Chinese black cat fireworks in the late 90s.

I hope somebody has been contacted regarding the conservation of this place. This is a time capsule. It’d be cool to turn it into a museum.

Too much damage and rot to the building, but thousands of items could be preserved.
@kroakie43 жыл бұрын
Donnell Muniz, It’s so sad it’s in such bad shape. I hope most of the items are salvaged. It’d be a crime to destroy those with the house when it’s inevitably razed.
@donellmuniz5903 жыл бұрын
@@kroakie4 Yes, and there are probably MANY toxic substances in there, like DDT, stuff that's been banned for many years. Plus household cleaners, petroleum products, etc. They need to empty it out before they demolish it. Sadly, cleanup crews work fast, they'd probably just throw everything in the dumpster. In THIS case, looting the place would be the right thing to do!

8:47...did I spy a bottle of 'smart price' malt vinegar??? What a truly fabulous place, lots of wonderful items. I am so shocked that it hasn't been vandalized and everything taken!! Vintage items are in great demand and fetch some huge prices, especially haberdashery items. Hope someone preserves the contents of this shop for future generations to see.
@stare67114 жыл бұрын
Hey Viv, this place was a real time capsule, so nice to see the items still just left on the shelves like that:) Thanks for watching

i saw that, they started to use smart price red labels back in the 2000s so i would that bottle would be from the mid 2000s, which could tie in with the VCR TV, looking at that box, ones like that were the very last generation, The flat scree tv box which as shown could also been a box of the 1st generation flat screen tvs, The very 1st ones that came on sale. Which again points to the mid 2000s ( i used to work for asda on the H+L department and grocery section too)

wow, hi from australia, just stumbled on your page and whammy what a great find, heartbreaking that this will end up demolished or destroyed, it could be turned into a museum and people could and would pay money to see how our past was, just mindboggling to see all of this , it takes time patience and alot of not standing on the wrong toes but would be amazing to find out who owns it and if it could be saved.....good luck

Hi Ruth, i agree, would be great to try and save this place as its so rare to find anything so well preserved as this these days. I have looked into the history and who might own the place but no luck yet. Im just glad i got to film it for everyone to enjoy. Thanks for watching

That is so cool. My guess is that someone was born , inherited the house, and died there. We use to have some of these old abandoned houses in my small town, from the late 1800s to early 1900s. I use to love going through them. You'd find such interesting things. There was so much fear around the integrity of the floor lol! Awesome upload. I love antiques.

The stuff in that shop was pre 1960s. (Except for the fire extinguisher). I can just remember getting paraffin delivered for the paraffin heater. I expect a lot of the things left there are the lines that did not sell successfully in the shop. The wall papers are very pretty.

In the room you went into after the shop there was a white modern electric heater standing in the corner amongst much older stuff.

That old cupboard with the stained glass in the kitchen was a state of the art product of its time. Aiming at providing people with some storage & a work-surface/dining flap. They were designed after WW2, to provide essentials that people needed in one unit, to quickly replace necessities lost through bombing.
@sarahstrong71744 жыл бұрын
Going by the electrical fittings, the house did not originally have electricity but it was installed later, which might explain the old lamps. (If it has been occupied by the same family all this time. I think the mirror next to an old lamp in the back place might actually be a reflector for a lamp.

The phone piece may be a a type of early switchboard each person had their own ring that piece was the center of it all. The magnifying piece usually had a light behind it, he may have used it for measuring and mixing meds, I love the things there they need to save it, the dirt floor room may have been original part of the house and they never made the floor complete. Be safe!
