Teotihuacan is a unique destination. It is filled with the beauty of nature, the attractions, and the beliefs that give a delightful ambiance and relaxing travel experience.

My understanding is that Teotihuacan is not from the Aztec era . It peaked and was abandoned before the start of the Aztec empire - when the Aztec people found the eagle with a snake on a cactus at the location where they founded Tenochitlan (now Mexico City). When the Aztecs discovered the pyramids - they gave the names Sol and Luna and imposed their beliefs on the site. I am not sure that anyone knows what the significance of the pyramids was to the people of Teotihuacan. Anyway, beautiful images. You got a nice clear day.

I was in Mexico City & Teotihuacan (pronounced teo ti you wakan) in January 2021. Most of Mexico was closed down due to the pandemic but I was able to hire a private tour guide online and visit a small portion of these pyramids as well as Guadalupe Shrine. Both amazing places! Jason, come visit us here in Southern California! I'll host you 😊

hi Jason! amazing video There was no city, kingdom, or empire more important than Teotihuacan in the American continent (50 BC-650AD) Its influence and cultural and political dominance reached the center and south of the USA and even Costa Rica. With 25 square miles built up, Teotihuacan was larger than Imperial Rome or Constantinople in 400 AD Tenochtitlan in 1521 only had 3 built-up square miles. The origin and ruling class of Teotihuacan were Ñhäñhus ("Otomies") Not nahuas. The name Teotihuacan was put by the Nahuas in the ss. XIV, 700 years after the collapse of that imperial city The mathematical numerical value of π is represented in the slope that its constructors gave to the pyramid. Hey Jason The Pyramid of the Sun presents a great enigma, when it was excavated in 1906 for the first time an enormous layer of mica was found, the mica is used as electrical insulation. The strangest thing is that the mica comes from Brazil more than 1500 miles away from Teotihuacan!

Actually, as far as I know the pyramids themselves have been closed for a while (a couple of years or more), meaning you can’t actually climb them anymore, and it’s not due to COVID, apparently there were some accidental falls from the pyramid of the sun, as it has no protection on the top, they were meant to be fall proofed but it hasn’t happened (I imagine it has something to do with the fragility of the stone up there)

Who came up with, “Avenue of the Dead” (Calzada de los Muertos)? Seems a very presumptuous title to add drama to the site. When viewed from above, the causeway more resembles a complex waterway with connecting pools than a Procession of the dead.

Spent many vacations in Mexico City with family, when I was young. Teotihuacan used to have a night show which lit up each pyramid and told the history. Also Xochimilco was my favourite!
