Exploring Charleston NZ - A Real West Coast Gem

Charleston, located between Greymouth and Westport on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island is a real 'blink and you miss it' town. At first glance, there is not much going on but it has a fair bit to offer.
It's home to some pretty stunning beaches, a really interesting old gold mine called Mitchells Gully, and is the start of the brand new Kawatiri Coastal Trail, a 50km biking & walking trail that will eventually go all the way from Charleston to Westport via Cape Foulwind.
If you ever find yourself driving along the West Coast make sure you stop and check it out!

Just found your video. In 1965 I went through charleston with my parents and saw the old European hotel ready to fall. I still marvel that I was there to see it. Your children are privileged to have explored that region and when older they will enjoy reading its history Thank you

Thanks Cedric! It’s a great part of New Zealand isn’t it, so much history there! We love the West Coast, have collected a few history books about it in our travels.

Stunning drone shots in this one. But, I mean, it is NZ :-). That one of the kids going into the three tunnels was too cute. Do you not worry about getting lost in the tunnels?

A couple of the tunnels had a few junctions but most of them were just one big long tunnel 😊 apologies for the tardy response!

Great video, did you see the "Nile River Train" ? great for a ride through the forest and back. Just behind Charleston.

It was so awesome to have the 8 of you enable some time in your travels to explore Charleston. With Constant Bay, the Nile River mouth beach, the award winning Suspension Bridge, the Waitakere Section (1 of 9 parts) of the Kawatiri Coastal Trail plus Mitchells Gully Mine - you really captured a few of the local delights well on those days!! Your drone footage is very cool too - great skills Bronson. We keenly look forward to your Denniston & Millerton episode next! Best wishes with the Pohutakawa trees & thanks so much again for visiting. It was very special for Shane & I to meet you all after being viewers of your channel from the beginning.

A great wee explore of the Charlestown area, definitely a nice place. I've been through Mitchell's gold mine a few times but never actually met anyone there yet, cool to get some more of the history. Hope the trees travel well and become established up there in Taupō

@@AdventuresWithRosy great, yes keep them sheltered from the frost. We are all OK down here, Blenheim was barely affected. We had a wet windy trip through Kaikoura today but it is clearing up.
